Nick Sweet Surges to Victory, Extends Point Lead

In a night full of last lap surprises, Barre sensation Nick Sweet sent up championship fireworks of his own on his way to a hard fought win in Tuesday night’s (July 3) Northfield Savings Bank Holiday event at Thunder Road. Defending Thunder Road Champion Dave Pembroke chased Sweet to the line, and Milton’s Scott Payea was forced to settle for third in the closing laps.
Sweet started from the fifteenth position, and manipulated traffic masterfully on his way to the front of the pack. Sweet had reached second place just past the halfway mark, but Payea had extended a sizable lead searching for his first win of 2012. Sweet mercilessly closed the gap before catching him with 10 laps to go and charging to victory in the outside lane. Pembroke inched by Payea on the last lap to steal second, and Chip Grenier scored his first top five of the season with a fourth place finish. Trampas Demers, a feature winner already this season, came home fifth, three-time champion Phil Scott fought from 14th to sixth, and Brett Wheeler, Cody Blake, Jamie Fisher, and Brent Dragon rounded out the top ten.

Daytona 500 Winner Trevor Bayne Enters TD Bank 250

Trevor Bayne NASCARThe 2011 Daytona 500 winner Trevor Bayne has entered the TD Bank 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway. The race will be held on July 22, 2012.

Since 2004, Oxford has attracted the elite of NASCAR to the TD Bank 250. The trend was started with Matt Kenseth and Kurt Busch competing in the event that year. In 2005, Kenseth was joined by Kyle Busch. The 2006 event drew Kyle Busch, Ricky Craven, Denny Hamlin and JJ Yeley. 2007 saw Terry Labonte and Kevin Lepage challenge the Late Model pilots. In 2008, Kevin Harvick raised the bar for the NASCAR crowd, winning the event. The 2009 event saw a Wallace family invasion, with Rusty as the Grand Marshall and Kenny and Steven competing on the track. Breakout Cup star Brad Keselowski competed in 2010. 2011 saw the return of Kyle Busch, competing in his third TD Bank 250. Kyle did not disappoint, winning the race in style.

ThompsonThe Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Models return to the Thompson International Speedway on Thursday, July 12th. These exceptionally fast and competitive race cars will compete in a 75-lap feature event that is bound to bring with it all of the things that have made this annual event at Thompson such a hit with New England fans.

The PASS Touring Series will arrive at Thompson, the largest and fastest track on which they compete, with a great field of Super Late Model cars their driving stars. Local sensation Derek Ramstrom will be joined by drivers like Travis Benjamin, Johnny Clark, Joey Doiron, D.J. Shaw, Cassius Clark, Ben Rowe and many more.

The PASS Super Late Models have become one of the most popular touring series that visits Thompson every year. Fans come from all over New England to watch this amazing series compete on the high banks of the Thompson Int’l Speedway. In the last three years, this division has produced a different winner each time. The 2009 race was won by Derek Ramstrom with the 2010 event going to Ben Rowe. Last year’s winner was Johnny Clark.

Emerson Cayer Takes Home His First Thompson Win And 2nd In A Row

2012 Texas Roadhouse North East Mini Stock Tour

The weather couldn’t of been any perfect in Northeast Connecticut for the Texas Roadhouse North East Mini Stock Tour to make their third appearance at New England’s largest short track, Thompson International Speedway. 21 tour style mini stocks rolled into the gate early Thursday afternoon along with 25 Thompson regular minis for the 3rd Annual Northern Tour Shootout.

The point leader coming into the night was John Kelly fresh off of two third place finishes in the first two events of the season. John would experience motor difficulties in practice which sidelined him for the heat race. As practice continued there was definitely a battle brewing between Twin State feature event winner Emerson Cayer along with last years Thompson winner Mark Panaroni, Shawn Swallow and, last years Thompson champion Danny Field.

Patrick Laperle Claims First ACT Serie Castrol Win of 2012 at Montmagny

Montmagny, QC – Defending Serie ACT Castrol champion Patrick Laperle of St-Denis, QC stole the late victory in the Montmagny 200 at Autodrome Montmagny on Sunday, July 1. Laperle had a mirror full of Quebec City’s Jean-Francois Dery and ACT Serie Castrol point leader Donald Theetge when he crossed the finish line to take his first checkered flag of 2012.

Pole-sitter Patrick Boyer snatched the lead early before losing it on lap four to a dominant Patrick Hamel. Hamel held onto the lead until opening day winner Karl Allard surged to the front from eleventh on lap 23. After a lap 48 caution, Theetge out-dueled Allard on the outside lane and grabbed the point. Theetge looked like the car to beat, dominating the next 79 circuits until a caution on lap 118 that brought nearly all the competitors to pit road.

Second PASS North win of 2012 for Hight team – Wilson PASS Mod winner

Cassius Clark drove around Ben Rowe with twelve to go in Saturday night’s Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Firecracker 150 at Canaan Fair Speedway to earn his second PASS super late model win of the season. Clark took advantage of the night’s second restart to claim the position and the win by a .812 second margin. Rowe was out front for the majority of the night but the defending Canaan race winner had to settle for second. Travis Benjamin kept his streak of top three finishes alive, finishing third and padding his lead in the series point standings.

It was Rowe and Lonnie Sommerville on the front row and Rowe took the lead when the green flew .That pair took off , racing nose to tail lap after lap. The race went caution free until lap 72, taking less than 18 minutes to complete that distance. Lonnie Sommerville put his ride out front on the restart and led the way at the half way mark with Rowe, Benjamin,Cassius Clark, Matt Frahm, Derek Ramstrom, and Johnny Clark trying to chase down the leader. Rowe was quick to reclaim the lead on lap 77 as another long stretch of green flag racing ensued. Sommerville slipped high on lap 101 and Benjamin took advantage to move up to second and the top two battled nose to tail for the next 30 laps.
