ThompsonSpeedwayWood Leads Night of Repeat Winners With Limited Sportsman Long Distance Victory

(THOMPSON, CT) – The Xtra Mart Limited Sportsman Series took center stage at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on Wednesday, May 18th for their marathon event, the Limited Sportsman Long Distance, presented by Circuit One Events, and the first Wednesday night of racing for the 2016 season at the Big-T. The forty-lap feature doubled the traditional distance of the Thompson division and has been a highlighted event on the calendar for many of the series regulars, but it was a familiar name that came out on top with Josh Wood taking the checkered flag on his 22nd birthday.

It was the second time Wood has won on his birthday, but the first time he has done it in the Xtra Mart Limited Sportsman Series. Wood took the lead fifteen laps into the forty-lap feature and never looked back but had to survive a series of cautions late in the race and a hard charging crew of experienced series veterans to claim his second straight win of the 2016 season.

THUNDER ROAD ANNOUNCES THIRTY-SEVEN THOUSAND DOLLAR POINT FUND

thunderWaterbury, VT – Thunder Road International Speedbowl announces the continuation of a thirty-seven thousand ($37,000.00) point fund program for their weekly competitors’ 2016 season. Started in 2014, the three divisions – ACT Late Models, Bond Auto Tigers, and Allen Lumber Street Stocks – have enjoyed one of the largest weekly point funds in the country.

The Thunder Road Late Model Champion is awarded $7,500.00 at the end of the season. The top 15 positions in both the Late Model and Tiger divisions battle throughout the race season for positions in the point standings. The Late Models receive a total payout of $25,000.00; the Tiger division has a total of over $7,500; the 4-cylinder Street Stock division has a point fund through 20 positions that will pay over $4,400.00 in post season awards.

“Thunder Road has been known for paying some of the best weekly purses around the country, and certainly some of the best point funds. When I was racing the purse for Late Models was around $6,000 on the quarter mile. When you added in the year-end point fund, together it really helped with the expenses to race at the level we raced at. I think the same thing applies to the two other divisions,” said former three time-track champion and current ACT race director, Cris Michaud.

NAPLES, ME (May 18) – For racers and fans across the United States, the month of May looms large. And it’s no different for the Pro All Stars Series (PASS), which will feature the best in Super Late Model and Modified racing throughout the remainder of the month.

Following a rainy Sunday afternoon at Speedway 95 for the PASS North Super Late Models which saw Garrett Hall prevail over Derek Griffith for his second triumph of the season, attention focuses back on the rescheduled Support 50 Legs 150 at New Hampshire’s Star Speedway. Saturday afternoon’s Support 50 Legs 150 will help raise awareness for a cause affecting far too many Americans. Steve Chamberland’s 50 Legs organization helps provide amputees with the necessary care and prosthetics, that they could not otherwise afford, and to help them live a happier and healthier life.

So far this season, there have been three different winners in the first four PASS North Super Late Model events. PASS young gun Garrett Hall captured the checkered flag at Thompson Speedway in the season opener and last weekend at Speedway 95 and now sits just six points behind championship leader, DJ Shaw. Shaw is coming off a win of his own at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway that saw him get the best of Joey Doiron on a late-race restart. While 4-time PASS North champion Ben Rowe took the checkered flag at Oxford Plains Speedway in a thriller over Shaw and Johnny Clark.
