Rich Tops Held Over SCoNE Triple Crown Feature

BRADFORD, VT – A jammed pit area saw a total of 117 race teams from five states competing on the seven-division card for the fourth annual New England Dirt Track Championships. Mother Nature tried it’s best to put a damper on the night with a persistent on and off drizzle delaying the start of the night by over two hours, but once the racing started it was hot and heavy for the regular 99ROCK weekly Racing Series divisions along with the USAC Dirt Midgets and the Sprint Cars of New England. The only event not completed was the Kids Bike Giveaways, as about 75 bikes were slated to be given away, this will now occur this week.

The final race of the Sprint Cars of New England (SCoNE) Triple Crown Series, held over from a rainout earlier in the year, kicked off the night on the ultra fast and smooth track with Tyler Rich of Lyme, NH coming to the front from his sixth starting position. Rich took the lead from Troy Comeau and went on to take a convincing win. Perennial front runner Chris Donnelly was second with Rick Martel, Troy Comeau and Clay Dow completing the top five. With the win Rich was named the Triple Crown Champion over Chris Donnelly. The feature saw both Lacey Hanson and Dan Douville take wild rides, destroying their mounts in separate incidents.

BRADFORD, VT –It was an action packed night at Bear Ridge Speedway as double Features were on tap in most divisions due to last week’s rain shortened night, sponsored by Dead River Oil Co. The first Bond Auto DIRTcar Sportsman Modified Feature found Josh Currier taking the lead from the pole position, fending off numerous challenges from Adam Gage and Troy Comeau until Comeau finally took the top spot with just four laps remaining in the 40 Lap affair. Comeau went on to take his first career win in a Sportsman Modified. Kevin Chaffee made a late race charge from his 14th stating spot to claim second with Currier a career best third. BRADFORD, VT – Bradford, VT resident Brian Chaffee churned out a gritty performance on Dead River Oil Company Night at Bear Ridge Speedway on Saturday, winning the 20-lap Laquerre’s Sports Limited Late Model Feature. Chaffee, who started the feature from sixth on the ultra-fast track stormed to the lead in only three laps and then held off a hard charging Matt Ellsworth for the win. Point leader Jason Giguere claimed third with Jeremy Hodge and former champion Tyler Stygles rounding out the top five.

Unfortunately rain claimed the rest of the Feature programs for the evening as after a late start due to an intense afternoon storm, the rain later returned and caused another delay. After working the track back into shape it was smooth, tacky and fast, it didn’t last however as the rain returned for a third time just as the Bond Auto DIRTcar Sportsman Modified feature was poised to take the green, forcing the postponement of the rest of the program. At press time no decision has been make when to make up the remaining events.

At the drop of the green, Durham’s, Evan Beaulieu, paced the 20-car field to the green flag and led the field until a caution on lap ten bunched them back together.
