Vermont 200 Weekend Saturday Card Washed Out, Sunday Main Event Schedule Adjusted
Shootouts to be run at noon prior to qualifying

WEST HAVEN, VT – Rains wreaked havoc at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Saturday, washing out the opening day of the Mekkelsen RV Vermont 200 Weekend. Sunday’s program – which features a clear weather forecast – has been adjusted to provide a blockbuster day of stock car racing action, complete with a meet-and-greet autograph session with NASCAR Hall of Famer Bobby Allison.

The annual 10-lap non-winner “Shootout” races have been rescheduled to Sunday, September 14 and will be held at 12:00 noon before the regular action begins. First-round qualifying for the Bond Auto Parts Modified and Late Model divisions begins at 1:30 p.m., followed by twin-segment feature races for the Renegade and Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stock divisions, twin 50-lap Modified features, a 100-lap Late Model finale, and a 50-lap Enduro Series race.

Busy “Shootout Saturday” Highlights Vermont 200 Weekend at Devil’s Bowl Speedway
First-Round Qualifying, Non-Winner Shootouts, North East Mini Stock Tour debut on tap

WEST HAVEN, VT – Stock car racing fans will get far more than their money’s worth at the Mekkelsen RV Vermont 200 Championship Weekend at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on September 13-14, with two jam-packed days of action ahead. While feature races and championship celebrations highlight the Sunday portion of the event, the annual “Shootout Saturday” program has also become a can’t-miss.

The action begins at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 13 with qualifying heats for the Bond Auto Parts Modified, Renegade, and Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stock divisions. Non-Winner Shootouts are on tap for all four weekly Devil’s Bowl divisions, giving competitors who have yet to find victory lane a chance to shine. The Modified, Late Model, Renegade, and Mini Stock classes will each have a 10-lap Shootout race for drivers who have competed at the track prior to the Vermont 200 Weekend without having won a feature.

Track, state, NASCAR championship and rookie titles on the line

WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway hosts a pressure-packed weekend of racing action at the Mekkelsen RV Vermont 200 Championship Weekend on September 13-14, as nearly a dozen championship and rookie titles are decided during the two-day show. Battles for the track’s weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series divisions will wrap up, along with the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series.
Todd Stone of Middlebury, VT seeks his second-straight Bond Auto Parts Modified division crown.

While his 2013 title was clinched in a 10-win runaway, Stone has been kept in check this year by Joey Roberts and Leon Gonyo. Roberts trails by 35 points (846-811) while Gonyo is another five markers back. Twin 50-lap features and a maximum available total of 105 points mean that the title is far from a lock for Stone.

Jeff Champagne Wins in USAC Dirt Midget Association Race at Vermont’s Bear Ridge Speedway

Ellington, CT: Under cloudy skies and rain showers, nineteen USAC Dirt Midget Association teams made the trip to Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Vermont for this past Saturday nights race action. After waiting out Mother Nature and track preparations, the teams were able to practice then move right into the feature race with no heats.

Derrick O’Donnell Crowned 2014 “King of the Road” Nick Sweet Wins Coca-Cola Labor Day Classic 200

Barre, VT – Derrick O’Donnell of North Haverhill, NH claimed his second straight Thunder Late Model “King of the Road” title at the conclusion of the 36th annual Coca-Cola Labor Day Classic 200 at Thunder Road on Monday, September 1. Second place point man Nick Sweet of Barre did all he could to snatch the title away from O’Donnell by claiming his second career Labor Day Classic victory, but O’Donnell’s seventh consecutive podium finish in second was enough to earn him the title.

The event originally scheduled for Sunday, August 31 was pushed back to Labor Day Monday due to rain. When the feature event finally went green, the defending track champion and point leader took the green flag 18th on the 32 car field, while Sweet started 14th and trailed in the standings by 16 points. At the start of the event, Sweet rocketed to the front of the field and settled in to the third spot by lap 41. O’Donnell patiently worked his way through the field and ran just inside the top ten through the first 140 laps
