Barre, VT – Shawn Fleury of Middlesex led from start to finish to pick up his first victory of the season in the Thunder Road Late Models on CVMC ExpressCARE Night.

Starting on the pole, Fleury jumped into an immediate lead over rookie Marcel Gravel of Wolcott, who started on the outside of the front row. Fleury widened his margin as Gravel and veteran Dave Whitcomb of Essex Jct. battled side-by-side for second place. Gravel, who led 38 laps of last week’s feature before falling victim to handling problems late in the race, held onto second, while Whitcomb finished third.

There were no yellow flags in the 50-lap event, and the top three ran away from the rest of the field, which was bottled up behind a battle for fourth place between Jason Allen of Barre and Matt White of Northfield. Allen crossed the finish line in fourth, but was disqualified after failing post-race inspection. Phil Scott of Middlesex, Nick Sweet of Barre, Scott Dragon of Milton, Tyler Cahoon of Danville, Jason Corliss of Barre, White, and Kyle Pembroke of Montpelier rounded out the top 10.

Bridge, FitzGerald, Messier score; Wood wins Enduro in downpour

WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Jason Durgan left little doubt in his first victory of the season at the Asphalt Track at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Saturday, July 2. The point leader of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Bond Auto Parts Sportsman Modified division was a dominant winner in the Coca-Cola “Firecracker 44” on a night that also saw a large, enthusiastic crowd cheer Seth Bridge, Scott FitzGerald, Eric Messier, and Zach Wood as winners.

Durgan, of Morrisonville, N.Y., waded through an early mess in the 44-lap Modified race that saw three wrecks in the first two laps. After trailing early leader Dave Snow for several laps, Durgan threw his No. 17 Valley View Firewood/Taylor Rental-sponsored car to the outside lane at the one-quarter mark in the race and powered into the lead, then set sail for the rest of the distance to win by a dominant half-track advantage.

Barre, VT – Kyle Pembroke of Montpelier claimed the third Triple Crown of the season in three regular-season events on Harvest Equipment Night on Sunday afternoon, sweeping his heat race, the semifeature, and the 50-lap Thunder Road Late Models feature.

Pembroke survived a collision with Eric Chase of Milton on his way to the victory. The two cars collided on the backstretch after the third caution flag of the race was thrown on lap 40. Since the wreck didn’t cause the yellow flag, Pembroke was allowed to reclaim his second-place position in the field. He moved past Darrell Morin of Westford on the ensuing restart and stayed in front for the rest of the event.

Rounding out the top ten were Nick Sweet of Barre, Morin, Phil Scott of Middlesex, Eric Badore of Milton, Jason Corliss of Barre, John Donahue of Graniteville, Shawn Fleury of Middlesex, and Josh Masterson of Charlotte. Badore and Sweet also claimed Maplewood Stores Triple Crowns in the first two regular-season Late Model events at Thunder Road.
