Sprint-style races highlight Saturday, Sept. 14 program at Devil’s Bowl Speedway

Restored racecars bring past to present at track’s season finale
WEST HAVEN, VT – Devil’s Bowl Speedway will look a bit like the days of old at its Vermont 200 Championship Weekend on September 14-15, as the New England Antique Racers (NEAR) club roars around the half-mile oval for the first time. A vibrant group of restored and revitalized racecars are expected for the two-day event for display both on and off the track.
Open-wheel Modified and Coupe racers from across the barnstorming northeastern racing days of the 1960s and ‘70s will run in practice and race events during the Vermont 200 Weekend. Many of the NEAR cars attending the event will be identical in construction to those that competed at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on both asphalt and dirt surfaces several decades ago.

BRADFORD, VT – Bradford, VT resident Brian Chaffee churned out a gritty performance on Dead River Oil Company Night at Bear Ridge Speedway on Saturday, winning the 20-lap Laquerre’s Sports Limited Late Model Feature. Chaffee, who started the feature from sixth on the ultra-fast track stormed to the lead in only three laps and then held off a hard charging Matt Ellsworth for the win. Point leader Jason Giguere claimed third with Jeremy Hodge and former champion Tyler Stygles rounding out the top five.
Unfortunately rain claimed the rest of the Feature programs for the evening as after a late start due to an intense afternoon storm, the rain later returned and caused another delay. After working the track back into shape it was smooth, tacky and fast, it didn’t last however as the rain returned for a third time just as the Bond Auto DIRTcar Sportsman Modified feature was poised to take the green, forcing the postponement of the rest of the program. At press time no decision has been make when to make up the remaining events.

Wild-and-crazy smashfest to cap Devil’s Bowl Speedway season

Races are run without caution flags and disabled vehicles are left wherever they may lie, including on the racing surface; red flags are used only in the event of emergencies.

Saturday’s NASCAR Nite Pro Series 40-lap feature event was won by Gorham’s veteran Steve Berry.
At the drop of the green, Durham’s, Evan Beaulieu, paced the 20-car field to the green flag and led the field until a caution on lap ten bunched them back together. Beaulieu maintained his lead over Tyler King, of Livermore Falls, on the restart and battled side-by-side with him until a second caution flew on lap 19.
Beaulieu was involved in the caution handing the lead to Don Colpritt, Jr, of Scarborough. On the restart, King maneuvered his way by Colpritt going into the first corner to take the lead from him on lap 20.
