Street Stock winner Dufault takes championship lead, Heath dominates Bandit class again
Oxford, Maine – Reid Lanpher of Manchester wasn’t planning a trip to Oxford Plains Speedway this weekend, but weather postponements and a rescheduled Sunday night Budweiser Championship Series program offered up an opportunity not only to get some seat time in his EJP Racing Super Late Model, but also prepare for the 43rd HP Hood Oxford 250, coming up on Sunday, August 28 at 1:30 p.m.
Lanpher, runner-up in last year’s HP Hood Oxford 250, picked up a confidence-boosting win from the front row in the 50-lap Super Late Model race, topping the card at the historic Route 26 oval track. Lanpher prevailed in an early battle versus polesitter Dave Farrington, Jr., of Jay.
Bobby Timmons of Windham provided stout competition for Lanpher, making several attempts to get alongside the eventual winner before claiming runner-up honors in front of Farrington. Corey Bubar of Windham and South Paris racer Shawn Knight rounded out the top five.
Lanpher becomes the 14th winner in 15 Budweiser Championship Series Super Late Model 50-lappers this season at Oxford Plains Speedway. Only reigning track champion and current championship point leader Timmy Brackett of Buckfield has won twice this season.

SOUTH BOSTON, VA (August 13) – Veteran Jeff Fultz outlasted a strong field of Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Models Saturday night at South Boston Speedway to take his long awaited first career victory in the series. The win by Fultz was made even more meaningful by the fact that he becomes the 50th different winner in the series dating back to its beginnings in 2006.
“I just love South Boston and I don’t get to race much anymore, plus the guys worked all day in 100 degree heat to get this car right,” said Fultz of his milestone win. “I’ve never won a PASS race, three white flags and we’re leading and the caution comes out and we end up losing. It’s a tough series and they race everywhere. I’ve finally got something to put on my resume that I have been waiting a long time to get.”

Sweeps Sportsman Modified and Sprint Car races
WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Bobby Hackel blew the fans and the competition away at the Dirt Track at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday, August 14, becoming just the second stock car driver in the track’s 50-season history to win in two divisions on the same night. The 21 year-old from Rensselaer, N.Y., swept both the 35-lap feature for the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Sportsman Modifieds and the 30-lap race for the Sprint Cars of New England. Also winning at the Liberty Street Discount Beverage & Deli Night event were Josh Coonradt and Mike Ryan.

Hackel got his work started in the Central Vermont Motorcycles Sportsman Modifieds, when he came from 13th starting position to challenge leader Kevin Chaffee of Bradford, Vt., at lap 13. It was West Sand Lake, N.Y.’s Kenny Tremont Jr. to make the first move, though, as he passed both Hackel and Chaffee to take command at lap 17. Hackel followed Tremont through traffic for the next 17 laps, with Tremont’s lead growing and shrinking as the pair navigated lapped traffic.

Bonsignore makes up ground with Bud 150 victory
(THOMPSON, CT) – The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour made its third trip to Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park on Wednesday, August 10th for a Thompson tradition, the 27th annual Budweiser “King of Beers” 150. With only twenty points separating the top two drivers in the series, reigning champion and points leader Doug Coby looked to regain his composure and momentum following a poor finish at Stafford.
After dominating at Thompson last year, Coby, the reigning champion of the Bud 150, sought to recapture that success after placing 4th and 10th in the first two events in Thompson for 2016. He started off strong by winning another pole at the Big T and leading the way for the first 54 laps before a caution brought the field to the pits. Coby dropped several spots during the stop, but wasted no time reclaiming a lead he wouldn’t hold for very long.

Tony Membrino, Jr. & Joey Ferrigno Locked In Epic Championship Fight in Stafford Speedway’s SK Light Modified Division
(Stafford Springs, CT)—Stafford Speedway’s SK Light Modified division has seen an epic championship duel between Tony Membrino, Jr. and Joey Ferrigno. Membrino has already been an SK Light champion, winning the title in 2013 while Ferrigno has won the most races in the division the last 2 years with 5 wins each in 2014 and 2015 but he came up short in the championship race. Ferrigno also knows what it takes to win a championship as he won the DARE Stock championship in 2005.
Membrino began the 2016 season by winning four of the first five races to establish himself as a championship contender and he leads all drivers with 5 wins thus far. Ferrigno has only 1 win to his name in 2016, but in 11 races, he has been on the podium 8 times, including 4 second place finishes. Membrino had built up a point lead as large as 38 points over Ferrigno after the June 10th event, but Ferrigno has battled back to sit tied with Membrino in the standings entering this Friday night’s action. Both drivers have an average finish of 3.8 through the first 11 races and with both drivers so evenly matched, the race for the championship promises to deliver an exciting conclusion. (more…)

Duprey by inches in Renegades; Conroy tops fun Mini Stock race
WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Kenny Tremont Jr. narrowly escaped from a big pileup to win on the special “Whelen Wednesday” double-points Mid-Season Championship stock car event on the Dirt Track at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on August 10. In spite of major damage to his car, the seven-time Devil’s Bowl champion ran to his second win of the season after a wild 35-lap race. Bill Duprey and Chris Conroy also scored victories during the night, which was presented by NASCAR Whelen All-American Series title sponsor Whelen Engineering.
Three caution flags slowed the pace of the Central Vermont Motorcycles Sportsman Modified race in the first three laps. Tremont, of West Sand Lake, N.Y., was involved in the most serious incident, which stacked his car up with those of top championship point drivers Justin Comes, Derrick McGrew, and rookie Justin Severance. All but Comes were able to continue, though the body on Tremont’s car was severely damaged. (more…)
