Walpole, NH-    The Granite State Pro Stock Series’ (GSPSS) championship is heating up as the tour heads back to Star Speedway this Saturday, August 16, for the GSPSS 100.

Four drivers are within 28 tallies off point leader Larry Gelinas entering Saturday’s event.  Larry Gelinas’ lead whittled away after mechanical misfortune at Monadnock Speedway forced the Buxton, ME driver to retire early from the JBH 100.  Matt Frahm, Derek Griffith, and Dillon Moltz all took advantage as each finished inside the top 10 to begin to reel in Gelinas.  Frahm, with his third place finish in the JBH 100, now sits a mere 19 points behind Gelinas.  “Everyone kept their heads up,” stated Frahm about his run at Monadnock.  “Third place, we’ll take it for the points, and we’ll move on to Star.”  Frahm fought his way to the front as a result of being penalized from an incident with Tommy O’Sullivan.

Thompson, CT- The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) returns to the historic Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP) this week, for the Budweiser ‘King of Beers’ 150. Originally scheduled for Wednesday, August 13, the event will be rescheduled for Thursday, August 14 after a forecast for heavy rain on the day of the event.

The Budweiser ‘King of Beers’ 150 marks the 125th return of the NWMT to Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. Franklin, MA native Bobby Santos will try to make it back to back victories at this event, as the driver of the Tinio Racing/ ImperialCars.com Chevrolet picked up the checkers in this event just a year ago. Santos, who has 4 career victories with the NWMT at Thompson Speedway, and sits third in the point standings entering the event, just 15 ticks off point leader Doug Coby. Coby is holding on to a slim lead over Justin Bonsignore, with Santos, Ted Christopher, and Ryan Preece third through fifth, respectively, in the standings. Bonsignore, from Holtsville, NY, already picked up a victory at TSMP earlier in the year at the Icebreaker in April. Back to Back podium finishes puts Griffith within striking distance of GSPSS point leader

(Hudson, NH) – 17 year-old Derek Griffith is quickly becoming a force to be reckoned with on the Granite State Pro Stock Series (GSPSS).

Griffith found himself on the podium again after finishing in second place at Monadnock Speedway on August 9th. Derek rolled off ninth in the nineteen car field and quickly moved towards the front. The car was consistent and the driver, even more so.

Derek talked about bringing the No. 12 Mom’s of Manchester/LCM Racing Toyota Camry to a second place finish, “We had such a good car here at Monadnock. I love this track and we know the exact set-up we need. I was a little worried after we suffered that flat, right front tire but it’s just another example of the team working so good.”

Epping, NH – The Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour made their second and final visit to the the tight quarter mile of Star Speedway on Saturday night, marking the 16th event on the schedule.  Unlike many NELCAR races at Star in the past, some clear weather graced the New Hampshire sky, and 15 teams began preparation for some racing under the lights.
Veteran drivers Matt Chagnot in the 8 and Alan Smith in the 33 paced the field of cars in the first heat race. Smith drove to the lead on the outside and distanced himself from the pack, until a late caution washed his lead away. Lee, NH – The highly-anticipated 75-lap Ollie Silva Memorial Mid-Summer Classic for the International Supermodified Association (ISMA) was the featured attraction at Lee USA Speedway on Friday night, with a capacity crowd filling the grandstands at New Hampshire’s Center of Speed for the event.

Several alumni from the Lee USA Small Block Supers were among the strong field of speedsters on hand for the evening’s racing action, but one of them was sidelined before qualifying had been completed. On the first lap of the first ISMA heat of the night, Danny Lane took a scary ride into the wall in turn one with an apparent stuck throttle, ending his night before it had even started.

Two laps later while leading the same qualifier, “Liquid” Lou Cicconi had problems of his own and spun into the wall in nearly the same spot, putting his Clyde Booth entry on the shelf for the night as well. Jon Gambuti, Mark Sammut, and Rob Summers collected the heat race wins.
