Savary First To Repeat With Lee VMRS Win

Lee, N.H. – Richard Savary used a different approach Friday night breaking away from the norm. He charged to the front from his 11th starting position, challenged early front runners Tom Carey Jr., and Todd Szegedy, to take the lead on lap 55 and go to win the Valenti Modified Racing Series sanctioned ‘Port City 100’ at Lee USA Speedway, Friday night, June 27.

The win was the Canton, Massachusetts., drivers second this season and his third career VMRS victory.

Instead of doing what most drivers do when competing at Lee, hang back and save their tires for the second half of the race, Savary changed his strategy and ran hard early on to put himself in contention for the lead.

“This is the first time here for all of us with this new right rear tire so nobody knew what it was really going to do. I took a page out of the Steve Masse book. He seems to get to the front and try to hang there. I thought I’d give that a try tonight. Late in the race we had good clean restarts. Hard racing. I think if the 21 (Bonsignore) was in front of me I would have had my hands full but I’m glad it was someone like him driving the car behind me.”

NETS Returns to Speedbowl this Saturday

The New England Truck Series returns to action Saturday night at the historic Waterford Speedbowl in Waterford, CT. NETS has been the fastest growing racing series in the northeast, with car counts averaging nearly double 2013’s numbers. With the increase in trucks has come an increase in competition – five winners in five race events so far this season. Twenty-four different competitors have taken the green in those five races, with 18 of them scoring a least one top 10 so far in 2014.

Perhaps the biggest surprise is who hasn’t visited victory lane so far in 2014. Defending series champion Duane Noll leads the points standings by 3 over Andy Lindeman, but has yet to take a checkered flag home. Former champion Chris Correll came close in the last event at Waterford, but finished second to another former champion, Allen Coates. Bert Ouellette, Mike Parker, and rookie Tyler Chapman have also looked strong this season but have yet to put notches in the win column.

Doug Coby Looking Forward to NAPA Auto Parts SK 5k at Stafford Speedway

(Stafford Springs, CT)—Over the last three seasons at Stafford Motor Speedway, Doug Coby has had a stranglehold on victory lane in NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour competition. Coby has won half of the 10 NWMT races run at Stafford since the start of the 2012 season, but he hasn’t been able to win an SK Modified® feature at Stafford since reuniting with car owner Glenn Johnson. Coby recorded six podium finishes last season with 3 second and 3 third place efforts, but he came up short in the win column. Coby is again knocking on the door to NAPA Victory Lane this season and he feels like a win could be right around the corner for the #15 team.
