WINCHESTER, NH – Modified hot shoe Justin Bonsignore took home the lion’s share of the gold Saturday, July 27, night at Monadnock Speedway, dominating the 200-lap NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour main event presented by Town Fair Tire.
But while Bonsignore’s star shone brightest in front of the capacity crowd, he was one of four different drivers to score career-first feature wins at the high-banked speedplant on the busy eight-division racing card.
Cole Littlewood earned his first-ever victory lap, winning the night’s Young Guns event. Thunder Stocker Bryan Town made his first outing on the high banks a memorable one, topping his division’s 30-lapper; and Champ Kart strongman Juris Kupris made his ride from New York City worthwhile by winning his feature event.
Other winners Saturday at New England’s fastest high-banked quarter mile included Super Stock powerhouse John Lavoie, who scored his fourth win of the summer; Sportsman Modified rookie sensation Steve Fifield, victorious for the second time this season; Mini Stock strongman Mike Stebbins, winner of his third feature event of the summer; and Lightning Stock points leader Chris Davis, who gobbled up the field to score his third win this year.

After a three week layoff, on Saturday, August 3rd, the Granite State Pro Stocks return to the high banks of Monadnock Speedway for the second annual JBH Memorial 100. This is the second of two events scheduled at the Winchester, NH speedplant.
The first JBH Memorial was postponed three times before it was finally run in 2012, before having the name changed to the Vampire 100 in October. Even with the weather finally cooperating, John Hoyt’s presence was felt as the lights went dim just before introductions.
Barry Gray, former Monadnock Speedway Pro Stock Champion picked up the win on that mid autumn evening, holding off Fran Colson and reigning GSPSS Champion Bobby Cabral. It was the first series win for Gray, which remains his only win to date on the series.
The last time the Granite State Pro Stocks ran Monadnock Speedway. Matt Frahm picked up his second win of the series, his first of two consecutive wins on the season, putting him right into the thick of the championship chase.

Gray snaps Giguere’s unbeaten streak in the Limited Late Models
BRADFORD, VT –Chris Donnelly once again used the topside to roll to victory in the Bond Auto Parts DIRTcar Sportsman Modifieds during 99ROCK Weekly Racing Series action on Perry Oil service Night at Bear Ridge Speedway on Saturday. The veteran racer, who started 21st in the 22 car field used numerous early race cautions to his advantage and blasted into the lead on lap 28 of the 40 lap affair. Rookies Derek Barker and Adam Gage waged a torrid battle up front which continued for the runner up spot for the remainder of the race. Barker would come home second with current point leader Kevin Chaffee making a last lap pass for third. Gage was fourth and Tim Hodge completed the top five.
USAC Dirt Midget action found Adam Pierson in victory lane again in an absolutely dominating performance. Pierson, who rode the rim to front in only ten laps from his 14th starting spot, steadily pulled away after taking the lead and took the victory by over four seconds. Former Champion Joe Krawiec had his best run of the season to finish second with Tim Gallant third, Scott Holcomb fourth and early leader Rookie Dylan Duhaime fifth.

Stone, Bushey, LaVair grab repeat victories
WEST HAVEN, VT – American-Canadian Tour stock car driver Wayne Helliwell, Jr., captured an historic victory at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday, July 28, taking his third consecutive win at the West Haven, VT track in the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 150 presented by Cat Country 105.3 FM. Todd Stone, rookie Brad Bushey, and Chris LaVair also picked up NASCAR Whelen All-American Series wins at the event.
Helliwell, of Dover, NH, outlasted a race-long fight with Ray Parent. The pair traded the lead eight times during the 150-lap race, which was halted twice for rain including for 23 minutes with 93 laps complete. After the race resumed, Parent, of Tiverton, RI, was running second with just four laps remaining when his engine sputtered, out of fuel. Helliwell pulled away for the win after the final restart to earn the two-race ACT sweep at Devil’s Bowl in 2013, having won the Spring Green 113 in May; he also won the Spring Green in 2012 to make it three-straight wins at the track.
Travis Stearns, a rookie from Auburn, ME, picked up where Parent left off, earning a career-best runner-up finish. Joey Polewarczyk, Jr., of Hudson, NH finished third, followed by Glen Luce of Turner, ME, and rookie Bobby Therrien of Hinesburg, VT, Ben Lynch of Huntersville, NC, and Jimmy Hebert of Williamstown, VT.

West Haven, VT – Wayne Helliwell, Jr. of Dover, NH completed his sweep of the American Canadian Tour events at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Sunday, July 28. Helliwell backed up his Spring Green win in May with a win in the St. Jude Children’s Hospital 150.
Helliwell had to battle both Tiverton, Rhode Island’s Ray Parent and weather on his way to the win. The Helliwell/Parent duo swapped the lead a total of six times over the first 93 laps. The outside lane seemed like the lane of choice as the second place driver got the advantage on the majority of the restarts.
The event was red flagged with 93 laps complete due to rain. After an over 20 minute rain delay the racing resumed with Parent at the point. Following another caution with 104 laps completed, Helliwell took over the lead for good. Parent settled in to second until he abruptly slowed up on lap 146. He had to pit to fill up with gas and returned for the restart and remained on the lead lap.

The Granite State Mini-Sprint Association tour came through Wentworth, NH on Sunday, July 28, and Sportsmen Modified regular Gary Seimons took yet another feature win.
The most intense race this Sunday was against Mother Nature. A damp weather forecast kept some of the Legion Speedway’s regular fans and racers away, but the green flag fell on time over a dry track. There was a brief shower during the intermission, but it ended and the main events took to the clay.
Gary Seimons (#51) took his third feature win of the Sunday Twilight Series, in a 25-lap race only interrupted once by the caution flag. Allen Hammond (#77) and Art Heino (#27) put up a valiant fight but had to settle for second and third. Derek O’Hearn returned from a long hiatus in his #55 Super Street machine and handily took his feature event. Doug McPhail (#6) was second, followed by “Super” Sam Comeau (#30).

Dave O’Blenis is the 2013 Best of the Best Pro Stock 150 champion. But it wasn’t easy for Speedway 660’s RE/MAX Group Four Realty Pro Stock points leader. He came from deep in the field and swapped the lead several times with two-time Auto Value 250 champion Lonnie Sommerville before claiming the win.
“We’re happy to take the win for sure, but we’ve got some work to do before SpeedWeekend because this car didn’t handle the way it should today” said O’Blenis. “It’s nice to know we’ve earned a starting position in the Auto Value 250, but we’re going to have to be better to be successful on SpeedWeekend.”
Matt Harris made a late charge to finish third in the Best of the Best 150, the same spot he finished in the 2012 Auto Value 250. Sommerville and Kevin Moore won the qualifying heat races.
