Canaan Fair Speedway event rescheduled for Sunday, August 11
WEST HAVEN, VT – The second chapter of the inaugural Northern Modified Challenge Series stock car season is about to be written at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. The first-year touring series will make its maiden voyage at its home track on Friday, August 2 with the Carrara Masonry & Concrete “C.J. Richards Memorial 67” event. Racing begins at 7:00pm.
The Northern Modified Challenge Series is a five-race touring championship for center-seat, dirt-style, open-wheel Modified racecars on both asphalt and dirt race tracks in the northeast. Jessey Mueller of Olmstedville, NY made history by winning the first Challenge event on Memorial Day at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT.

OXFORD, Maine – Reid Lanpher of Manchester, Maine, posted back-to-back podium finishes on the Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour, finishing second in both the VIP Thursday Thunder 25 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, on Thursday, July 18, and the 25-lap event at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Saturday, July 20. Lanpher started at the rear of the 19-car field at Oxford after winning his heat race and ran out of laps to chase down the eventual winner. Two nights earlier at Beech Ridge, Lanpher again started deep in the field – 10th – and was in the runner-up spot by Lap 15. In the caution-free event, he simply ran out of time to make up enough track position to have a shot at the victory.

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Brian Hoar of Williston, Vt., finished second in the inaugural ACT International 500 at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Sunday, July 21. Hoar won the third and final 100-lap segment after finishing second in each of the first two segments in the RPM Motorsports No. 37 GossCars.com Dodge Charger. Hoar, who has eight career ACT Late Model tour wins at the .500-mile track, was leading in every single segment before late-race caution periods cost him victories in the first two segments. After winning his heat race, Hoar qualified 10th in the first segment for his best starting position in any of the three 100-lap events after full field inversions following each segment.

OXFORD, Maine – Bradley Babb of Windham, Maine, failed to qualify for the 40th annual TD Bank Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Sunday, July 21. Babb was leading his second-round qualifying race when his engine let go on Lap 7, ending his bid to start in the annual midsummer classic for the second time in his career. A field of 64 cars entered the race with 34 qualifying based on several rounds of heat racing and seven spots being filled by guaranteed starting spots.

OXFORD, Maine – Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, Maine, finished fourth in the 40th annual TD Bank Oxford 250 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Sunday, July 21. Theriault made two scheduled four-tire pit stops over the final 100 laps of the event and was closing on the leaders without the benefit of a caution flag over the final 60 circuits. The 19-year-old driver of the AT Racing No. 57 Pelletier Ford Ford Fusion grabbed fourth right at the checkered flag for his third straight Top-5 finish in the Oxford 250 and his eighth straight Top-10 finish in a Super Late Model. Theriault opened the weekend with a fifth-place finish in the IWK 250 at Riverside Speedway in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, on Saturday, July 20, in the Brad Keselowski Racing No. 29 Checkered Flag Foundation Ford Fusion. His team owner and teammate for the race, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski, finished just two spots ahead in third.

Modifieds and Coupes have late race upsets for feature winners at Bear Ridge Speedway
Warren new winner in Hornets, Giguere Remains Undefeated In Limited Late Models
BRADFORD, VT –Jordan Fornwalt® Bradford VT starting from the outside pole claimed the lead on lap three of their main event and looked poised to be on his way to his first win when lapped traffic gave veteran Chris Donnelly Orford NH the brake he needed. The break didn’t come until the last lap when coming out of turn two Donnelly made the lap traffic work to his advantage and snuck by Fornwalt crossing the line first. Fornwalt with his best performance finished 2nd and Josh Sunn Woodstock VT came home in third. Rounding out the top five were Justin “Cupcake” Comes in fourth and Troy Comeau in fifth.
Hometown driver Teddy Salomaa was challenged to repeat his win from last week and that is just what he did. Jeremy Beckley Woodsville NH was able to make his starting positon work for the first 26 laps sticking to the bottom with virtually no one in contention. Salomaa starting from the last quaifing spot suddenly found the groove he was looking on lap eight on the outside and set fire on the field. Salamaa would tick off twelve positions and on lap 26 set battle on Beckley. The remaining four laps saw the lead change back and forth between the two of them, and at the end it was Salamaa by a nose at the finish line. Following the two to victory lane was Terry Williams. The remaining top five sports went to Billy Simmons and your points leader Thomas Placey.

VALENTI MODIFIED RACING SERIES RETURNS TO THOMPSON THIS WEEK
THOMPSON, CT The Valenti Modified Racing Series will return to the Thompson Speedway this Thursday, July 25. This week’s race will mark their second appearance of the VMRS at Thompson in 2013. However, their first race on May 15th, was cut short by rain after only one qualifying race had been completed.
Fans have been anxiously awaiting the return of the VMRS to Thompson. They are scheduled to run qualifying races and a 75-lap main event. This will be the 6th race of the season for the exciting touring Modifieds. Thus far, there has been only one repeat winner in this extremely competitive division. Tommy Barrett has collected two wins and, as a result, leads the VMRS point chase as they head to Thompson. Other Winners this year include Steve Massee, Rowan Pennink, Louie Michalides and Dwight Jarvis.

Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. Captures ACT International 500 Win

Plattsburgh, NY – Joey Polewarczyk Jr. of Hudson, NH, still looking uphill at the $25,000 ACT International 500 winner’s prize as the end of the 300-lap race neared, passed Patrick Laperle with 15 laps remaining to win the inaugural event before one of the largest crowds in Airborne Speedway history Sunday, July 21.
Polewarczyk Jr. outpointed 8-time ACT champion Brian Hoar by winning the first two 100-lap segments of the 300-lap event with Hoar close behind in 2nd place both times.
When Hoar took command halfway through the final segment and went on to win it, Polewarczyk Jr. needed to finish 2nd to win the overall event. With 30 laps remaining, Polewarczyk trailed second-place Patrick Laperle by six car-lengths. The final event points totals were Polewarczyk 4 points (1-1-2) to Hoar’s 5 points (2-2-1).

All Sprint Cars Great and Small
The Legion Speedway in Wentworth, NH was visited by the SCoNE (Sprint Cars of New England) tour on Sunday, July 21. It was part of their Twin-State Championship series that includes the Canaan USA Speedway and Bradford VT’s Bear Ridge Speedway. The evening’s racing was sponsored by Route 118 Automotive and Trevor Rocke Auto Body.
Veteran Modified driver Rick Martel (#28) was recently given the opportunity to move up to sprint cars this year. He has taken full advantage of the chance. Starting from pole position he led every lap of a caution-free 25-lap feature. That simple statistic does nothing to express how hard he had to work for the win. Series veteran “Dangerous” Dan Douville (#7) came from deep in the field to second place, and nearly stole the win on the final corner. SCoNE points leader Chris Donnelly (#17) held off teammate Tyler Rich (#20) to take third.
