Penfold Captures First Wiscasset Speedway Win of the Season
By Lisa Maguire
Last Saturday was bright and sunny as the racecars hit the track for five exciting feature races that included Super Stock, New England 4-Cylinder Pro Stock, Pro Stock, Thunder 4’s, and the flex race of the week, Outlaw Mini’s. It was Bath Iron Works Day, and employees of BIW received discounted admission prices.
First on the track was the Super Stock class. It was a quick, straightforward twenty-five lap race. The No. 1 driven by Adam Chadbourne, took the pole position. He was followed by the No. 05 driven by James Osmond, and Josh Bailey in the No. 2. Chadbourne surged off the finish line, but Osmond was behind him, dogging his heels. The No. 3 driven by Bobby Mesimer came up from the back of the pack to take third and challenged Osmond for position. The three raced in well- matched cars, but Chadbourne kept his lead through the remainder of the race. Chadbourne raced across the finish line with Osmond only a second behind. However, Chadbourne did not pass post-race inspection. Osmond took the win, making this his second win at Wiscasset this season. Mesimer, who ran the fastest lap in the race, placed second. Dan Nessmith driving the No. 48 finished third.

Vickers wins first Sprint Cup Series race since 2009 health scare
LOUDON, N.H. (July 14, 2013) – Nothing was going to stop Tony Stewart from pulling away from the field on restarts. Nothing, except a dry gas tank. And it was Brian Vickers who took advantage of Stewart’s bad luck, zipping by him on the Magic Mile backstretch with one lap to go and holding on to win the Camping World RV Sales 301 – Vickers’ third NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victory in 271 career starts.
“Hard to put into words,” said Vickers – a part-time driver for Michael Waltrip Racing – who celebrated his moment sharing high-fives to fans along the frontstretch. “This is one of the most special events of my life. It feels like the first time in my career, the partners and owners and managers and crew chief are as good as it has been in my career.”

Derek Debbis and Kaitlyn Donovan win Phil’s Propane Triple Crown SYRA mains. Melberg, Lascoula and DeMello visit Victory Lane.
Defending Pure Stock Champion Jesse Melberg picked up his first win of the season since kicking off his title defense on May 5th. Amy Arsenault jumped out to the lead on the opening lap, and set the pace over John Robidoux and Ed Flanagan Jr. Robidoux hounded Arsenault for the first five laps until Ed Gould spun, bringing out the races only caution.
Once back under way, Bill Doyle snuck under John for second on the following lap, but slid back, allowing Flanagan back into third. By the half-way point, Melberg, using the outside lane, moved into third, then slid past Robidoux for second. Little by little, Melberg evened up with Arsenault, and the pair raced side by side for the lead until Amy spun in turn three, taking her out of contention. From there, Melberg held off Robidoux for his second win of the season. Chris Lima crossed in third, but fell to post race tech, moving Flanagan and Earl Curtin III into third and fourth, with Bill Doyle fifth. (more…)
