NAPLES, ME (July 9) – After nearly two months off due to rainouts, the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Super Late Models were finally able to get back on track during the Fourth Of July weekend holiday at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. Now, focus shifts to two big weekends of racing at Maine’s legendary Oxford Plains Speedway. This Friday night, the PASS North Super Late Models hit the track at Oxford for race number 5 of the 2013 season. In addition to being a make-up race for the rained out events at White Mountain Motorsports Park and Speedway 660, this weekend’s 150 lapper will serve as a major tune up for the 40th Annual TD Bank 250 to be held at Oxford Plains Speedway just over a week from now.
PASS North teams will not only be trying to focus on Friday’s nights race and the implications it holds towards this year’s championship battle, but will also start formulating strategies for the TD Bank 250. Beech Ridge winner Cassius Clark comes to Oxford as the only two-time PASS North winner in 2013 and knows a good run on Friday night can set a team up as the favorite heading to next weekend’s $25,000 to win TD Bank 250.

Barre, VT – The annual 150 lap Vermont Lottery Governor’s Cup stock car race at Barre’s Thunder Road takes on added consequence this Thursday night (July 11). Not only will it be a showdown for local racing talent against celebrated national stock car star Clint Bowyer, but for Thunder Road regulars there is a lot more at stake.
Bowyer, in last Saturday’s Daytona 400, sped to 2nd in the NASCAR National Championship Standings 49 points behind 5-time national champion Jimmy Johnson. Johnson has dominated the NASCAR Sprint Cup series this season, but for Thunder Road regulars their track point battle is one of the wildest in memory and it has just been turned topsy turvy… again.

Mid-Season Championships are make-or-break; Kids rides, driver autographs on schedule
WEST HAVEN, VT – NASCAR Whelen All-American Series stock car drivers will have to bring their “A-game” to Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday, July 12 at 7:00pm for the Rutland Herald Mid-Season Championships. With double championship points up for grabs in all preliminary and feature races, the event can make or break a driver’s title hopes and places even greater emphasis on performance.
All four weekly divisions will see point values increase twofold for each finishing position at the Rutland Herald Mid-Season Championships. Qualifying heats are bumped up from five points to win to a healthy 10 points – the difference of five finishing positions in a regular 35-lap main event. The Sunoco Race Fuels Semi-Feature for the Bond Auto Parts Modified division is also doubled, jumping from 10 points for a win to a whopping 20 markers. Feature races are stuffed with points, with the victory ballooning from 50 points to a mammoth 100 tallies.

Fred Astle Jr of Westport broke a streak of bad luck to find himself carrying the checkered flag for the first time this season. Elmer Wing III jumped out to the lead on the opening lap, from his outside pole starting position, and led the first few laps. Astle, who started fifth, jumped into second on the opening lap, when pole sitter Tom Scully Sr. struggled on the opening lap.
By lap five, Astle slid by Wing, and set sail at the top of the leader board. Kyle Casper followed Astle into second, and followed the six time champion to the checkered. Dave Darling, who started twelfth used some a couple of cautions to help him get through, and made his way to third at the final checkered. Kevin Folan and Mike Brightman were fourth and fifth.

Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour: John Peters Beech Ridge/Wiscasset Speedway Race Review
WISCASSET, Maine – John Peters of Westbrook, Maine, posted back-to-back Top-10 finishes in Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour action last weekend, finishing fourth in a 25-lap event at Wiscasset Speedway in Wiscasset, Maine, on Saturday, July 6, just two days after finishing eighth in a 25-lap feature race at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine. Peters, 16, started at the rear of the field on both race days after posting podium finishes in the previous events, and he now sits fifth in the overall NELCAR standings – despite missing one race early in the season – and second in the 10-race VIP Thursday Thunder Cup standings at Beech Ridge in his rookie season on the Tour. Barre, VT – Race driver Clint Bowyer, whose next event is Thursday night at Barre, Vermont’s Thunder Road, was part of a last lap charge this past weekend to win the Daytona 400. He wound up 4th in the 200 mph chase. But that charge has projected him to 2nd place in the NASCAR National Sprint Cup standings behind 5-time National Champion Jimmy Johnson.
This Thursday night’s 150 lap battle for the Vermont Lottery Commission Governor’s Cup on the Barre high banks won’t see the Daytona speeds, but promises to be just as great a challenge for Bowyer, with regional stock car stars eager to prove they can race with one of the nations very best. Barre’s Nick Sweet, Montpelier’s Dave Pembroke, and the three-time T-Road Track Champion Lt. Governor Phil Scott will be joined by Burlington’s Trampas Demers, Chip Grenier, Brooks Clark and 16-year old Emily Packard. Some 30 ACT Championship Late Model cars are expected.
