COOMBS LATE MODEL WIN HIGHLIGHTS WEEK 2 PROGRAM AT WISCASSET SPEEDWAY

Another breezy, cool day did not stop racers and fans alike from heading to the Wiscasset Speedway this past Saturday. This was “Group Two” division racing and included: Strictly Streets, Mini Trucks, Outlaw Mini’s, Late Model Sportsman, and the flex race of the week was a ten lap backwards race.
Starting the action was the Strictly Streets feature. Brian Robbins of Montville, Maine lined up at the pole position for the 20 lap race. Robbins took the early lead in the event and maintained a solid advantage, but faltered during the last two laps. This allowed Guy Childs Sr. of Turner an opportunity to sweep away with the lead and take it to victory lane for the win. Corey Morgan of Lewiston and Tasha Dyer of Arrowsic, battled it out for second and third, respectively. (more…)

Lee, NH — American Canadian Tour Rookie of the Year Jimmy Hebert disproved any ideas of a sophomore slump by earning his first-career ACT victory in style at the New Hampshire Governor’s Cup 150 at Lee USA Speedway on Sunday, April 14th. North Haverhill, NH’s Travis Fadden and Rowley, MA’s Eddie Macdonald finished out the podium for the season opening event.
The race began with Tiverton, RI’s Ray Parent going door-to-door with pole sitter Fadden for the first six laps, until overtaking him for the early lead. Fadden stayed hooked to Parent’s back bumper as the field stretched out, bringing defending ACT Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. into third behind the two leaders. As the pair worked through lap traffic, Hebert worked his way from the 15th starting position to tenth, highlighting a string of daring moves with a 3-wide blast on lap 32. By lap 57, Hebert had maneuvered his way through the field to 6th place. Parent and Fadden continued to battle for the lead through lap traffic until a quick move by Fadden left Parent pinned behind a lapped car. Fadden stole the lead back, and showed the way until the first of six cautions on lap 89. (more…)

Fogleman Slides To Victory In PASS South Return To Southern National
KENLY, NC (April 13) – Preston Peltier looked to be on the way to his second straight Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model win, but slipped in oil from rookie Brandon Lynn’s car coming to the white flag handing Jay Fogleman the win in the Dogwood Blossom 150 Saturday night at Southern National Raceway Park. Fogleman’s 8th career win moves him out of a tie with Ben Rowe into sole possession of second place on the PASS South All Time Wins list.
“My spotter told me that there might be oiI going into turn three and when we got there Preston (Peltier) was about a lane higher than I was and got in it and we were able to get by and make it back to the checkered flag first,” said Fogleman. “I can’t thank Dicky Woodman and these guys enough for the car they gave me tonight. I’m gonna try to run as many races as I can driving other people’s cars because all the focus in my shop is on Tate (Fogleman’s son). He’s got a lot brighter future than I do.” (more…)
Michalski and Barnett Wins Dampened By Untimely Loss Stefanik Sets New WMT Series Record
Thompson, CT: The excitement of Icebreaker opening day at Thompson International Speedway took a heartbreaking turn Saturday afternoon. The Thompson Speedway family and the entire racing community was saddened with the loss of a long-time Thompson competitor. Jimmy Smith, 62, of Woodstock, CT was stricken in the paddock area following an 8-lap qualifying race at the speedway. He was taken by ambulance to Day Kimball Hospital in Putnam where he died.
“Everyone at the Thompson Speedway is saddened at the loss of Jimmy,” said the track’s General Manager, Jonathan Hoenig. “Words cannot express how all of us feel at this time. We extend our deepest sympathies to Jimmy’s family, friends and fans. Jimmy was a talented race car driver and he loved the sport dearly. He will be missed by everyone in the racing fraternity.” (more…)
ACT Pit Report – Lee USA Speedway Saturday, April 13, 2013
Lee, NH – The American Canadian Tour Late Models hit the track for the first time in 2013 with an optional practice at Lee USA Speedway in Lee, NH. Thirty-six (36) cars took advantage of the practice day in preparation for tomorrow’s (Sunday, April 14) NH Governor’s Cup 150 season opener.
Former ACT champions dominated the top of the speed charts in each of the four practice sessions. Eight-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar of Williston, VT led one of the four sessions while seven-time ACT Champion Jean-Paul Cyr of Milton, VT topped the final two. Multi-time Lee USA track champion and defending ACT Champion Wayne Helliwell, Jr. of Dover, NH held down the second fastest spot in each of the four sessions. (more…)
