With their own teams not able to make the trip, a pair of champion NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour drivers leaned on relationships developed through the years to secure rides for the inaugural UNOH Battle At The Beach, Feb. 18-19 at Daytona International Speedway.
Reigning NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Champion Doug Coby and 2010 tour titlist Bobby Santos will head to the “World Center of Racing” thanks to arrangements secured just recently to allow them to compete in the new special event on the .4-mile oval on the backstretch at Daytona.
Those arrangements will also see them team up with another pair of champions, and legends in the Modified ranks. Coby is slated to compete in a team car to Ted Christopher – the 2001 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national champion and 2008 Whelen Modified Tour titlist – while Santos’ car will come out of the same shop as that of nine-time NASCAR champion Mike Stefanik. New Hampshire Teen Testing The Late Model Waters In 2013
SOUTH PARIS, Maine – Taylor Martin raised eyebrows last season in a Legends ride at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, but in 2013 the 15-year-old driver from Windham, N.H., will break out a new Late Model in hopes of making her debut in that division.
Martin purchased a Crazy Horse Racing Late Model from Austin Theriault Racing and will test the car during open practice sessions in the spring with an eye on being race-ready later in the season.
“I am so excited for this year. I am ready for it,” said Martin, who became the first and youngest woman ever to finish on the podium in an event at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last summer. “I’m really, really excited about being able to move up into these cars. (more…)

NASCAR fans are going to get their first 2013 racing fix when the flag officially drops on FOX Sports’ 2013 Speedweeks coverage with the newly named SPRINT UNLIMITED AT DAYTONA. It will be live and in prime time on Saturday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. ET, followed by live coverage of DAYTONA 500 QUALIFYING, Sunday, Feb. 17 at 1 p.m. ET.
There’s a prevailing feeling that the 2013 NASCAR season is going to pivotal year for the Daytona based sanction. The person doing the steering at the helm of NASCAR is Brian France. To date Brian has reversed all of the changes that he made, over the years. It’s now back to square one and pretty much what we had before the shopping bag of changes took place. We have to give Brian some credit for making those changes that the fans complained about the most. In the process, France had to reverse just about everything he thought would grow his product. Coming off a successful inaugural season, the Granite State Pro Stock Series continues to grow into their second season, announcing two awards that will be given out at each event.
The first award will be the Ricky’s Real Racer Award, which will award the driver that improves his position the most from the start to finish $150. This award is in memory of Ricky Miller, who passed in October of 2004. Ricky was best known as a “Racers Racer”.
“We wanted to do something in Ricky’s memory,” his dad, Donnie Miller said. “Ricky was never a points racer. He was a driver that did everything he could to get to the front.” While not a points racer, Ricky will be forever known as the final track champion at the now defunct Riverside Park Speedway. The winters in Connecticut can be long, and the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour offseason even longer, which is why Ron Silk and TS Haulers Racing eagerly anticipate the opportunity to hit the race track in Florida during 2013 Speedweeks.
The 2011 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champions, Silk and the No. 6 crew will participate in the inaugural UNOH Battle At The Beach on the short track Daytona International Speedway, Feb. 18-19. They’ll follow that up with by participating three nights at the World Series of Stock Car Racing at recently-NASCAR-sanctioned New Smyrna Speedway.
“We’re racers,” Silk said of the team’s motivation to head to Florida. “It’s been a long time since the [2012 season finale] World Series and we just want to get back on the race track. It’s nice to get away from the weather up here for a few days and get some racing in.” (more…)

Lack of snow forces site change for Round 5 at East Coast Snocross,
Presented by AMSOIL and Woody’s Traction
Event moved from Belmont, NH, to Lake George, NY
CHESHIRE, Conn. (Feb. 5, 2013) – Despite predictions of a cold and snowy winter for the northeast in 2012-2013, a lack of snow in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire has forced a change in venue for this coming weekend’s East Coast Snocross (ECS) competition.
The fifth round of championship point racing was originally planned for the Lakes Region Casino in Belmont, NH, yet an unusual lack of snow in that area has forced officials to move the event. In a kind gesture with incredible timing, the folks who organize the Lake George (NY) Winter Carnival called to inquire if the series would be available for a return visit to their town. (more…)
