Bushey voted Devil’s Bowl Speedway “Driver of the Year” by readers of vtmotormag.com
WEST HAVEN, VT – A group of local stock car racers from Devil’s Bowl Speedway has been honored by the readers of the independent Vermont Motorsports Magazine news website during its annual “Driver of the Year” voting. Eleven drivers from the half-mile asphalt oval in West Haven, VT were nominated in seven categories on www.vtmotormag.com.
With over 23,000 total votes cast during the two-week balloting, Craig Bushey of Fairfax, VT was named the Devil’s Bowl Speedway Driver of the Year. Bushey took an impressive nine victories en route to winning the J&S Steel Late Model championship in 2012. Vince Quenneville, Jr., of Brandon, VT finished second in the category after a five-win season in the Bond Auto Parts Modified division, and Modified track champion Ron Proctor of Charlton, NY finished third in the vote. Thompson, Conn: Thompson International Speedway celebrated the 2012 season this weekend with two ceremonies honoring seven division champions in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series. Ryan Preece of Berlin, Conn. took center stage and was honored as the Sunoco Modified Champion on Saturday night while Late Model Champion Tommy O’Sullivan of Wilbraham, Mass. took top honors on Friday night.
Other champions honored Friday night included Limited Sportsman Champion Scott Sundeen of Douglas, Mass. and Mini Stock Champion Chad Baxter of Pascoag, RI. On Saturday night, Super Late Model Champion Derek Ramstrom of Worcester, Mass., Lite Modified Champion Cam McDermott of Scituate, RI, and Thompson Modified Champion John Lowinski-Loh, Jr. of Milford, Mass joined in celebrating their division titles. Leader in short track stock car racing bodies to present Rookie of the Year, Hard Luck Awards
CANAAN, NH — ARbodies, a leader in short track stock car racing bodies, will sponsor the Granite State Pro Stock Series Rookie of the Year award in 2013. ARbodies will celebrate the rookie of the year by presenting the ARbodies Rookie of the Year Challenge winner with a $1,000 gift certificate.

New England’s longest continuously running motorsports trade show is back to celebrate its 25th anniversary next month.
With track and series displays, industry vendors, driver autograph sessions, seminars and more, the Northeast Motorsports Expo returns to the Augusta Civic Center from Jan. 11-13, 2013. ‘The Magic Mile’ set for another blockbuster summer schedule
LOUDON, N.H. (December 13, 2012) – A sizzling summer slate has gotten even hotter with the announcement of the Whelen Modified Tour and K&N Pro Series East to New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s NASCAR Sprint Cup weekends in 2013.
With its Sprint Cup Series and Nationwide Series dates already locked in, NASCAR recently unveiled the schedules for the Whelen Modified Tour and K&N Pro Series East. The mods will visit “The Magic Mile” on July 13 and Sept. 20, while the K&N Pro Series East will makes its only trip to the Granite State on Sept. 20. (more…)
We had an opportunity to chat with Tom Barrett, Sr. at his Victory Lane Lounge and Pub in Millis. He fields a Modified Tour type car for his son Tommy Barrett, Jr. Tommy, Jr. is really focused on the Valente Modified Tour as it resulted in that driver taking three wins in 2012. Those came at the VMRS events held at Stafford and Waterford in Connecticut and the finale during the Oktoberfest at Lee USA Speedway in NH. While Tommy Jr. didn’t qualify for the VMRS Rookie of the Year because he wasn’t eligible due to a technicality in the rules. He did, however, finish sixth in points and that’s pretty fantastic when you consider all of that.
According to the guy paying the bills, “We’re going to do the same thing in 2013,” said Tom Sr. On the rumor that Tom Jr. had something going with a superspeedway ride ARCA stockcar circuit, Tom Sr. said, “You have to bring a bunch of money in order for that to happen. Our sponsor is the Victory Lane Bar & Grill and we don’t have that kind cash laying around.” On how it went financially last year and the prognosis for 2013, “It was a struggle last year and it’s going to be the same thing next year,” quipped Tom Barrett, Sr. (more…)
NASCAR announced the 2013 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule that will feature traditional dates at some of the premier short tracks and speedways in the northeast.
In its 28th season of competition, the Whelen Modified Tour will see the 14-race slate spread across seven tracks in four states. New to the schedule in 2013 will be a special event as part of Speedweeks at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway and a second date at Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway. (more…)
