Presented by AMSOIL and Woody’s Traction
EAST BURKE, Vermont (Dec. 10, 2012) – Veteran snowmobile racers Corin Todd and Danny Poirier stole the show Sunday, splitting the Pro Open finals as East Coast Snocross (ECS) opened its 2012-13 season at the beautiful Burke Mountain ski area.
Todd, a rising star from Otego, NY, powered his Bailey Motors/Hulten Speed Sports/ Utica National Insurance Polaris past early leader Lucas Brunelle on the challenging uphill section of the track, then pulled away to a convincing win in Round 1. Poirier, the two-time and defending champion from St. Theodore, QC, passed local favorite Lincoln Lemieux (Lemieux Racing/Ski-doo) midway through the grueling 15-lap battle and blasted on to victory in Round 2 Sunday afternoon. Stewart Says “No” to Indy While Keselowski Says “Yes”
By Lou Modestino
According to reports bandied about including those on the Speed Channel, Tony Stewart nixed an offer given to him by team owner Roger Penske to race an Indy Car at IMS on Memorial Day weekend. The reason given was that he has too much on his plate at this time. Besides having his hands full in the NASCAR wars, Tony felt that it would not be easy to come in just for the 500 and pull off a win. “It may have been like that in the past, but now it’s a different story,” he said. “Those Indy Car guys work on their strategy year round.”
Stewart claims that even though he’s got his ear to the ground on all things Indy, he feels that the other Indy Car teams and drivers are very much on top of their game. However, he did leave the door open for a run at the 500 sometime in the future. He elaborated more on the subject later on the Speed Report. “When I decide to go to the Indy 500, I really want to make a serious bid to win it, not just to be an also ran.” (more…)

Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Winless Streak Tallies Close Second In Media Poll
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 10, 2012) – Score one more for the underdog.
Brad Keselowski, no one’s pre-season choice to win the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship, stumped the experts. Media members, in turn, have voted Keselowski’s title run for owner Roger Penske as NASCAR’s top story of the past season.
Keselowski’s first championship prevailed in the voting over Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s drought-busting victory in June at Michigan International Speedway.
Now that media members have had their say, it’s the fans’ turn. Beginning at 5:30 p.m. ET this evening, fans can vote for their favorite competition stories of 2012 on the NASCAR Facebook page, www.facebook.com/NASCAR. (more…)

New Hampshire Motor Speedway has announced the winner of the “Fans of NHMS” Yahoo! Fantasy Auto Racing group for the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. Max Giguere, from Saint-Georges, Quebec, claimed the title thanks to a dominant performance during NASCAR’s Chase for the Sprint Cup.
The point standings are based on a cumulative performance over all 36 races, and Giguere made a late charge with the most points over the final 10-race segment of the season. He will receive an engraved trophy to commemorate his success.
The group was created with the help of Yahoo! Fantasy Sports in February in an effort to create an interactive competition among fans. The 596 participants far exceeded expectations set by speedway officials.
NHMS executive vice president and general manager Jerry Gappens showed why he’s “The Boss” of “The Magic Mile” by winning the league comprised of NHMS staff members. He made a good showing publically, as the strong season landed him 26th overall in the “Fans of NHMS” group.
“The fantasy NASCAR experience was a new one for me,” said Gappens. “It was a competitive league, and the staff was always excited to arrive at work on Monday to discuss their results. I’m glad I managed to hold them off for the win because it would have been a long winter if I hadn’t been able to pull it out.”
