The weekend that every race fan in the northeast looks forward to is this weekend at the Thompson International Speedway. The Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing presented by Town Fair Tire and Xtra Mart kicks off this coming Friday and runs through Sunday.
Sixteen different divisions of race cars and trucks will converge on the historic speedway to draw down the curtain on the 2012 racing season. The World Series of Speedway Racing is three days of non-stop activity on the race track and hours of fun and social activities for the fans. The entire weekend is a huge race and party weekend as fans say good bye to another year of auto racing. (more…)
The NEMST rolled into Waterford Speedbowl for the second time this season and the final event of 2012. This year has been full of ups and downs including the early season soar of Shawn Swallow, the rocketship of Mike Mason, the dominance of Emerson Cayer, the improvement of Cris King, and the perseverance of Danny Field.
Coming into the final event of the season the points were the tightest they have been all season. The leaders were separated by just 6 points and the following 4 cars separated by a mere 34. All of the drivers in the top 10 were fighting for the bigger trophy at the season end banquet in November. (more…)
SPEEDWAY 95 CLOSES 2012 SEASON WITH DOUBLE HEADER ACTION
MIKE HOPKINS AND RYAN DEANE TAKE LATE MODEL WINS
Speedway 95 closed out a very successful 2012 season with a double header week-end full of racing action that looked like the season was just beginning. On Saturday, over 75 cars entered the pit area under cloudy and breezy skies in a day that was to feature extended races in the speedway’s Strictly street and Sport-Four divisions. In Sunday’s action, the Dysart’s Late Models and the Maine State Lottery Sportsman did their season ending extended length features. (more…)
When 51 ACT Late Model stock cars arrive at Barre, VT’s Thunder Road on Sunday, October 14th for the 50th People’s United Bank Milk Bowl, an extra incentive will be on their minds: Curley’s $50,000 Challenge. The challenge, put out by long-time Promoter Tom Curley, is a $50,000 bonus to any driver that can win all three segments of the year-end Milk Bowl.
The task is daunting, but three drivers have already accomplished the feat: Larry Demar in 1967, Dave Dion in 1975, and Robbie Crouch in 1986. Brian Hoar was one position away in 1998 when he won the first two segments and finished second to his father in the third. Several others have won two segments but failed to complete the crown. CENTRE for Speed was once again the host of the Atlantic Stock Car Championships this past weekend. One hundred and twenty five teams competed in this years “racing celebration” from throughout Atlantic Canada including the largest number of team from Newfoundland since the events inception at a total of 4 in Sportsman, Bandolero, and Pro Stock divisions. The total car count was an improvement over 2011 due mainly to the absence of rain and spurred by mild temperatures on all three days. Registered competitors totaled 143 with 18 “no shows” due mainly to a rain date conflict at another contributing speedway. (more…)

Brian Hoar Airborne Speedway Race Report
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Brian Hoar of Williston, Vt., finished fourth in the season-ending Fall Foliage 200 at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Sunday, October 7. Despite qualifying inside the Top-10, leading a race-high 80 laps and posting his eighth Top-5 finish in 10 starts this season, Hoar finished second in the final ACT Late Model Tour standings, just 16 points out of the championship. The RPM Motorsports No. 37 GossCars.com Dodge Charger used an early pit stop strategy to gain track position and was leading on a restart with 10 laps to go before finishing fourth. (more…)

Austin Theriault Airborne Speedway Race Report
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, Maine, finished second in the ACT Late Model Tour season finale, the Fall Foliage 200 at Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, N.Y., on Sunday, October 7. Theriault started 22nd in the 30-car field, charged into the Top-10 by Lap 50 and closed out the 2012 ACT campaign with his eighth Top-5 finish in 10 races. The driver of the No. 57 Pelletier Ford Ford Fusion was the only driver in the series to finish inside the Top-10 in every race on the 2012 schedule. (more…)
THOMPSON, CT. The 2012 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour championship will once again be decided at the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing at the Thompson International Speedway. Going into the final event, three drivers are still very much in the hunt for the title with only 18 points separating all three.
Doug Coby has lead the points chase much of the season but goes into the final event of the year at Thompson with an advantage of only 17 points over Ryan Preece. Only 1 point behind Preece is the defending WMT champion, Ron Silk. Anyone of these three could emerge with the 2012 WMT crown following a tough 150-lap race on Sunday, October 14th. (more…)
Hudson NH – Todd Warren was the man to beat in the Outlaw Sportsman on Sunday Oct 7th at Hudson International Speedway. Warren has been slowly improving the last few season and finally got his breakthrough first win in the last appearance of the Outlaw Sportsman at Hudson Speedway in 2012. Warren had a few podium finishes and led a lot of laps this season and put it all together to go home with the winners spoils.
Warren started on the outside pole and spent a lap or two in overtaking polesitter Ron Lord. Warren stretched his lead while perennial front runners Geoff Rollins and Dean Wendell were making their way up through traffic. At the half-way point of the thirty lap feature Rollins had caught Warren and Wendell was just a car length or two behind Rollins. From that point on Warren made no mistakes slicng through lapped traffic better than Rollins and Wendell and was hung onto to drive under starter Bob Munroe’s unfurled checked flag for a well deserved victory.
