Thompson, CT: Thursday Night Thompson Thunder hosted a special 50-lap Super Late Model race with Derek Ramstrom dominating the action by leading every lap on the way to the checkered flag. Todd Ceravolo proved his mastery of restarts when he edged out Ryan Preece for the win in the Sunoco Modified division. Other NASCAR Whelen All-American Series winners included Tommy O’Sullivan, Jesse Gleason, Brian Tagg, Cam McDermott, and Eric Bourgeois.
Todd Ceravolo used restarts to his advantage to take the win in the 30-lap Sunoco Modified feature, and ends a four-race win streak by Ryan Preece. Ceravolo held off a determined Preece on a lap 23 restart to take the lead for the third and final time of the night. Kerry Malone jumped to the early lead, but it was all Preece on the second circuit after he dropped to the bottom and drove to the front coming out of turn two. Ceravolo drove by for second before caution slowed the pace at lap four. In a surprise move, Ceravolo soared by Preece for the lead when the race resumed. Woody Pitkat followed his line for the second position with Preece all over his bumper in third. On lap six, Preece challenged Pitkat in a side-by-side battle. Pitkat had the advantage on the line, but the battle continued until Preece took over the spot in turns three and four of lap eight. Caution tightened the field back up again, and Ceravolo commanded the field once again when racing resumed. Preece rode Ceravolo’s bumper and the duo pulled away from the rest of the field by a full second. By lap 16, Ceravolo had put a little breathing room between himself and Preece, but on lap 19, he drove too high in turn two and allowed Preece to close the distance back up. Caution at lap 23 tightened the field up for a restart that saw Ceravolo choose the outside lane. Ceravolo held off Preece and resumed his position as leader. Preece, Pitkat, and Dennis Perry rounded out the top-four. Ceravolo was dominant out front, and took the checkers unchallenged. (more…)

Mulkern Racing will bring a two-car effort back to the Nutmeg State when the PASS North Series holds the inaugural PASS 125 at Stafford Motor Speedway in Stafford, Conn., on Sunday, August 26. Full-time driver Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, New Brunswick, will pilot the No. 48 A.E. McKay Builders/Southern Maine Motors Chevrolet, while multi-time Stafford champion Ted Christopher of Plainville, Conn., will make his second start of the season in the No. 18 Southern Maine Motors/Community Pharmacies Chevrolet. Christopher previously joined the team at Thompson International Speedway in Connecticut back in July, while Sommerville heads into the series’ first-ever race at the half-mile in the heart of Modified country off a second-place finish last time out at White Mountain Motorsports Park. Austin Theriault of Fort Kent, Maine, continues to chase the ACT Late Model Tour championship this weekend in the Can-Am 200 at Riverside Speedway in Saint Croix, Quebec, on Saturday, August 25. The race is the second consecutive combination event involving both the ACT Late Model Tour and the Quebec-based ACT Castrol Series. Theriault, 18, has posted two Top-10 finishes in as many career starts at the .375-mile speedway, including a fourth-place finish in the event a year ago. With three races remaining on the schedule, Theriault sits second in the ACT standings, just 30 points out of the lead. (more…)

The long awaited Pro All Stars Series appearance at Stafford Motor Speedway is just a few days away and competitors in all three PASS North touring series are scrambling to prepare for their first ever trip to the Connecticut oval.

Championship Night Moved to September 7 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway
Weather-related postponement shuffles schedule, adds extra week
Mother Nature threw a kink in the stock car racing plans at Devil’s Bowl Speedway last week, but the resulting shuffling of schedules will allow race fans to enjoy an added week of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series action.
The twin 20-lap features for the J&S Steel Late Model division that were scheduled to be run at last week’s Green Mountain Water Environment Association/Sunoco Race Fuels Night have been moved to Sugar & Spice Night, this Friday, August 24, along with the postponed 75-lap Enduro for 4- and 6-cylinder cars. Also on the card for Friday are regular events for the Bond Auto Parts Modified, Renegade, and Bomber divisions, a pancake eating contest, and the summer’s second round of Spectator Racing. All street-legal vehicles are welcome to compete in the spectator races; vehicles must be registered, inspected, and insured, and drivers must wear a helmet. (more…)
In 2012, Barre’s own Nick Sweet has been busy with one of the most successful Thunder Road Late Model seasons in recent memory, but when the dust settles at the end of the month in Thunder Road’s Late Model division, his focus will turn to the race he owned in 2011: The Bond Auto Labor Day Classic.
Last year, Sweet lost the championship to Middlesex’s Dave Pembroke in late August, but was offered the seat of the RPM #57 car, teammate to eight-time Champion Brian Hoar, for the Labor Day Classic. Sweet flew to his first victory in the event, etching his name once more in the granite stones at Thunder Road. (more…)

EAST MONTPELIER, Vt. – Emily Packard’s storybook season continues to add new chapters.
Last Thursday night, Packard opened eyes when she made her Late Model debut against one of the deepest weekly fields in the region – on one of the trickiest tracks anywhere in the northeast – with a 10th-place finish in a 50-lap Late Model feature at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt.
Packard, 15, of East Montpelier, Vt., has competed in a Street Stock on the quirky quarter-mile throughout 2012 while also racing in the Late Model division on Saturday nights at Canaan Fair Speedway in Canaan, N.H. (more…)

Rich Staskowski Scores Win At Waterford
Welch, Fellows Also Visit Victory Lane For Crazy Horse Racing
WATERFORD, Conn. – Rich Staskowski of Hope Valley, R.I., won the 30-lap Late Model feature at Waterford Speedbowl in Waterford, Conn., on Saturday, August 18, for his first victory of the 2012 season.
Staskowski, who won three events in 2011, moved to third in the Late Model standings at the track.
“We’re trying a new setup recently in this car. We were a little off the pace – we had a hard time working the bugs out of it and finding the bite,” Staskowski said. “But we’ve been having a pretty good year. We were struggling a little bit, but we’re turning that around.” (more…)
