Barre, VT – Thunder Road officials have announced the return of the annual car show to the “Nation’s Site of Excitement” on Saturday, April 28. The event is scheduled for one day prior to the opening event of the 53rd Thunder Road season, the 14th Annual Merchants Bank 150, on Sunday, April 29.
All the stars of the American Canadian Tour and Thunder Road will be on hand for the car show. The event, which most recently was held in downtown Barre, will be located in the Thunder Road pit area from 10am to 12noon. Fans of all ages can check out the cars and meet their favorite drivers free of charge. The annual Pit Stop Contest will also be held in the pit area at 11am. (more…)

THOMPSON, CT. Race teams are burning the midnight oil in preparation for this weekend’s open practice session at Thompson International Speedway. The track will host the first of two such sessions this coming Saturday, March 31st, from 11 AM until 6 PM. The track sets aside open practice session each year prior to the season-opening Icebreaker.
Many different types of race cars will compete at the famed oval during the 2012 racing season and all are welcome to participate in these “round robin” style sessions. NASCAR’s Whelen Modifieds and All-American Series cars, ISMA Super Modifieds, NEMA Midgets, race trucks, classic and antique cars are just some of the race cars expected. Race teams like to take advantage of open practice days to ready their cars for the upcoming season and drivers find that they gain valuable “seat time”. Paddock area gates will open at 10 AM. Charlotte, NC 3/28/12- There are a few select races throughout the country that both fans and competitors alike circle on their calendars every year once schedules are announced that they mark as a must attend. Most of those events have twenty, thirty, or even forty years of history that has built them to what they are today. However, the PASS South Easter Bunny 150 at the Hickory (NC) Motor Speedway has developed into one of the most attended races by competitors in the country in just six years of existence.
An average of fifty cars have attended each of the last two Easter Bunny 150 events making it the most attended single day super late model event in the country during that time. Just making the event is an accomplishment for some drivers such as Landon Cling, driving under the Brad Kesolowski Racing banner, who made his first career Easter Bunny 150 start a season ago.
“I don’t think I realized at the time but now looking back making the field in such a big race like the Easter Bunny 150 my first year of super late model racing was a pretty big accomplishment. We didn’t have the finish we wanted, but overall I think that race really showed a lot of people the promise of my BKR race team,” said 2012 PASS South Series championship contender Landon Cling. GEORGIA, Vt. – After a season decorated with wins in some of New England’s most prestigious racing events and a series-record eighth championship for both car owner and driver alike, RPM Motorsports doesn’t have any plans two slow down in 2012.
The same car, same equipment, same crew and same driver will try and top a 2011 season in which they won a total of seven races and clinched the ACT Late Model Tour title with two races remaining.
“Whatever it is, it seems to work,” said Brian Hoar, of Williston, Vt., driver of the RPM Motorsports No. 37 GossCars.com Dodge. “If you could bottle it up and sell it – we’d probably make a lot of money. I just know that I have an approach that works for me, that works for success in this sport. The statistics show that. SOUTH PLATTSBURGH, NY – Jason Bonnett of St. Albans, VT, a past Airborne Speedway Tiger Sportsman champion and the 2010 Bond Auto/WIX Tiger Sportsman Tour champion, will compete in the 2012 USA/Canada Limited Late Model Series.
Bonnett began his career in a Strictly Stock at Airborne in 1997. He most recently raced on the Plattsburgh half-mile last October in a Tiger Sportsman Tour event, which he led for most of the way.
“I love running the new track,” Bonnett said. “I love the feel of it. You can run a line at the top and get in a rhythm. I’ve always considered Airborne my home track. Between my business (Bonnett Welding) and raising a family, weekly racing isn’t an option. The six-race format and the chance to go racing at St-Eustache is a good fit. I’m excited to get back to Airborne and I’m going to try and give the guys a little run for their money.” (more…)
Waterbury, VT – Joey “Pole” Polewarczyk, Jr. of Hudson, NH entered the 2011 season as the favorite for knocking off eight-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar. While things didn’t work out last year, Polewarczyk and his Pole’s Automotive Ford team are refocused and ready to get back to their winning ways in 2012.
In 2010, Polewarczyk had one of the greatest runs in ACT history. He claimed five wins in the final three months of the season and claimed second in the final standings. He earned a win at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway and two at Waterford Speedbowl, including the season finale. But his biggest wins of the year came in the ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and the People’s United Bank Milk Bowl at Thunder Road. It looked like he was poised to make a serious run at the 2011 title after claiming the ACT Goodyear Speedweeks Cup at New Smyrna (FL) Speedway in February 2011. (more…)

FONTANA, Calif. — Tony Stewart made all the right moves Sunday at Auto Club Speedway, and the last one proved decisive in taking the three-time champion to Victory Lane in the rain-shortened Auto Club 400.
After raindrops slowed the race on Lap 124, Stewart, the race leader, faked a move toward pit road but stayed on the track and matched the pace car’s speed of 65 mph, a far cry from the lightning-fast laps he ran under the green flag.
But that move — staying out and running slow caution laps before NASCAR stopped the race on Lap 129 — proved decisive for the defending NASCAR Sprint Cup champion, who claimed his second victory of the season, his second at Fontana and the 46th of his career, tying him with Buck Baker for 14th on the career victory list.
