As John Zych Jr. and Anthony Payne are celebrating their 2015 NEMA driver’s championships, NEMA President Russ Stoehr is reflecting on a very successful Northeastern Midget Association season. It was a year that highlighted a diverse group of winners across both venues, and 13 events.
Highlights on the season included 2 wins by back to back NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Doug Coby, one on opening day at Chemung and one at Waterford, respectively. Jim Chambers took down his first ever NEMA victory at the Twin State Speedway, and Joey Payne returned to NEMA victory lane after a two year hiatus at Monadnock Speedway after a hard fought victory over John Zych. Champion, Zych captured three wins, coming at Thompson Speedway, Oswego and Evans Mills, and Randy Cabral captured wins at Star Speedway and Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park. Todd Bertrand performed a “wing dance” after winning the Speed Sport TV, Boston Louis Memorial at Seekonk Speedway, and Seth Carlson took down an impressive Wings & Wheels win at the New-London Waterford Speedbowl. Thomspon Speedway Motorsports Park Expands NASCAR Racing Schedule in 2016
(THOMPSON, CT) – Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park (TSMP), the famed 5/8-mile oval in Northeast Connecticut, announced the expansion of its NASCAR Whelen All-American Series schedule to 10 events in 2016. The announcement was greeted with excitement by many teams and drivers who are looking forward to competing in more races at the historic speedway. The schedule is highlighted by four NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) events, the return of the Triple Crown Championship for the Limited Sportsman and Mini Stock divisions, and the inaugural Fan and Driver appreciation month.
“We’re excited to release another creative oval schedule,” stated Josh Vanada, General Manager of TSMP. “We’re proud to showcase our talented drivers in three additional events. It’s a privilege for us to honor both our fans and drivers with their own special events in July. It’s the least we can do with their great support throughout our 75-year history. (THOMPSON, CT) – Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park today expressed its deepest sympathies to the friends and family of a former track Champion Ron Bouchard. Bouchard was a regular competitor at Thompson from 1972 through 1980 and was a real fan favorite.
Donald J. Hoenig, a long-time friend of Bouchard, spoke for the track when he said that everyone at the Thompson Speedway was deeply saddened by his passing. “He was not only a wonderful personal friend, but was a marvelous driver and a great golfing companion”, said Hoenig. (more…)
Although the 2015 racing season has ended, the excitement at Lee USA Speedway continues heading into the winter months with the first of many announcements that are expected to come in advance of the 2016 season.
At the annual Banquet of Champions on November 21, it was announced that Seacoast Wholesale would be stepping up to play a major role in the sponsorship of the highly-competitive Late Model Sportsman division at “New Hampshire’s Center of Speed”, and more details on the specifics were released this week. Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park Honors Champions at Mohegan Sun
Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park celebrated the 2015 oval track season this weekend at Mohegan Sun at its annual award ceremony honoring four division champions in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series. Woody Pitkat celebrated his 2nd Sunoco Modified title, while Scott Sundeen was honored as a 4-time Xtra Mart Limited Sportsman champion. Late Model driver Brian Tagg and Mini Stock competitor Dave Trudeau each took home their first career championship. (more…)

Pemberton to Depart NASCAR Competition Post – Veteran Racing Executive Oversaw Numerous Racing Enhancements
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Dec. 1, 2015) – NASCAR announced today that Senior Vice President of Competition Robin Pemberton will leave the organization at the end of 2015.
With a racing career that has spanned five decades, Pemberton joined the sanctioning body in August of 2004. Since that time, he has overseen all areas of NASCAR competition and been credited as a key component in bridging the gap between the sanctioning body and the racing community. (more…)
