Nester takes North South Shootout 50 at Concord

“Yep, were good.” That’s exactly what USA Modified driver Brian Nester said after the very first practice session at Concord (NC) Speedway for the Indiana based group. And good he was, besting the 24 car field taking the front point at lap 21 passing then leader, 2010 USA Modified Series Champion, Brad Springer and never looked back. Nester fended off a hard charging Mike Stacy in the late stages to get the victory at the Series first ever visit to the Concord facility.

Concord, NC: Matt Hirschman of Northampton, PA, turned a rollercoaster ride into his third victory in the Modified portion of the 109 U-Pull It eighth annual John Blewett III Memorial North-South ShootoutTM on Saturday, November 6, 2010. Keith Rocco of Wallingford, CT, used late race strategy to score the victory in the SK-Type Modified portion of the main event. Colt James of Newton, NC, the 2010 Concord Speedway Late Model champion, used the home turf advantage to score the victory in a slugfest in the CRA Super Series Late Models. Brian Nester of Edon, OH, scored the victory in the USA Modified Series debut at the North-South Shootout. Johnny Sutton of Harrisburg, NC, and Tommy Buxton of Raleigh, NC, shared the spotlight in Vintage action.

Naples ME (11/02) There are plenty of terms for a race car driver’s driving style and 2010 Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Champion Preston Peltier fits the definition of charger to a “T”. He’s a hard nosed racer that expects to win every time he takes the green, and sometimes his drive to win has left more than one angry driver in his wake.

In 2010 Pettier raced as hard as ever, but on those nights that he didn’t have the fastest car he took what the race gave him. His team didn’t have an unlimited budget, and they needed to bring the 26 home in one piece at the end of the night, win or lose.

GEORGIA, Vermont — Multi-time ACT Late Model Tour championship team RPM Motorsports will expand to a two-car operation in 2011. RPM owner Rick Paya announced today that he intends to field a second entry for second-year driver Austin Theriault.

Theriault, of Fort Kent, Maine, will compete full-time on the ACT Tour in 2011 in the RPM Motorsports No. 57vt Ford Fusion.

NEAR Hall of Fame Adds Galullo, D’Amore, Bardwell

Pioneering New England modified star the late Danny Galullo, early car owner Louie D’Amore, and the much-celebrated racer Buddy Bardwell have been added to the New England Auto Racing’s Hall of Fame’s Class of 2011 by the organization’s Veterans Committee. The trio will join nine previously selected nominees at the 14th annual Induction Banquet on Sunday, Jan. 30 at LaRenaissance Banquet Hall in East Windsor, CT. Ticket forms will be on the NEAR website (www.near1.com) in the near future. The three veterans will be inducted along with the previously selected drivers Punky Caron, Dan Meservey, Russ Nutting and Jerry Dolliver, car owners Rich & Ray Garuti, Stanley “Skip” Matczak, Vic Kangas, and Speedway Scene publisher Val Lesieur.
