HAMPTON, Ga. — Brand new truck. Same old result.

Driving a No. 2 Chevrolet that saw its first action this weekend at Atlanta, Kevin Harvick dominated Saturday’s E-Z-Go 200 to win for the third time in his last three starts in NASCAR’s Camping World Truck Series.

In a race that saw several championship contenders fall by the wayside, Harvick crossed the stripe 1.308 seconds ahead of Kyle Busch at the end of a 14-lap green-flag dash to the finish. NASCAR’s young guns race at Wiscasset

NASCAR’s young guns race at Wiscasset

Andy Santerre brings his young drivers to “The Ames True Value Center of Speed 300” August 15th

(Wiscasset, ME) Cherryfield, Maine native and four time NASCAR EAST champion Andy Santerre will bring two of his young drivers to race at The Wiscasset Raceway on Sunday, August 15th. Currently the competition director for Revolution Racing, Andy is working with four young drivers that are part of NASCAR’s 2010 Drive for Diversity program.

“It’s going to be a challenge,” Santerre said, “This is a great step for these young kids to come into NASCAR and we give them a shot of a lifetime. They get to drive for our team, which is a top-notch team and have great equipment. This is not about them bringing thousands of dollars to a team. It’s about their talent.”

Talent is something Andy Santerre knows a little about.

During his 11-year career in what is now known as the K&N Pro Series East, Santerre won four consecutive championships from 2002-2005 and earned 23 wins, 85 top-five and 119 top-ten finishes in 166 starts. Santerre also spent time in the NASCAR Nationwide Series in the late 90’s, and was victorious in 1999 after returning from a broken leg he suffered at the start of the season at Daytona.

Santerre joined Revolution Racing, a driver developmental team based outside of Charlotte in Mooresville, North Carolina in 2009.

Two of the young NASCAR drivers learning from Andy will be traveling with him to Maine to race in the 150-lap Late Model Feature at The Ames True Value Center of Speed 300 on Sunday, August 15th.

Sergio Pena, a 16-year old driver from Winchester, Virgina, is one of Revolution Racing’s developmental drivers that will be in Wiscasset this season. Andy didn’t know anything about this young driver until, in his NASCAR K&N Series debut, he put his car on the pole and finished second at the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown in Irwindale, California, in January.

Ryan Gifford, a 20-year old former developmental driver at Richard Childress Racing, will also be racing in Wiscasset August 15th. Gifford made four starts in the East in 2009 and finished in the top five three times. ”He’s a great driver,” Santerre said, “he has a lot of talent and is kind of the leader of the group.”

Joining Andy and the young drivers will be veteran crew chief Jerry Babb, another Maine native coming back for the big race weekend at Wiscasset. To give fans a chance to mix and mingle with our returning NASCAR veterans and young drivers the Wiscasset Raceway will have VIP tickets available for a lobster feed and meet & greet with Andy and the drivers. For more information, check the website at www.wiscassetraceway.info.

“We’re excited to give the fans at Wiscasset Raceway the chance to see the young drivers of NASCAR,” said Doug White, owner of the raceway, “we know there are also a lot of fans of Andy Santerre and we are proud to host them all at The Ames True Value Center of Speed 300 on Sunday August 15th. BE THERE!”

Ace Speedway added to 2010 PASS South Schedule

Ace Speedway added to 2010 PASS South Schedule

NAPLES ME (3/2/2010) Pro All Stars Series President Tom Mayberry and Ace Speedway have reached an agreement to promote and sanction a 150 lap PASS South super late model race at the semi-banked 4/10 mile speedway on Friday evening June 4th, 2010.

The event marks the series first visit to the Altamahaw North Carolina Speedway as well as the first appearance for the ultra-fast super late model race cars on the Ace oval.

“We’re very pleased to have Ace onboard for 2010,“said Mayberry. “ It looks like a first class facility in every respect, with plenty of racing room. Our PASS South super late models will certainly give area race fans an exciting Friday night of racing!” (more…)

PASS South teams anxious to get 2010 season started at Dillon March 13th

NAPLES ME (3/1/2010) The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South super late models get their 2010 points season underway Saturday March 13th with the South Carolina Clash at Ron and Sue Barfields’ immaculate Dillon (SC) Motor Speedway, and there’s new teams, new combinations, and many returning favorites that will challenge for both the race win and the 2010 title.

Ben Rowe made the long haul from Maine to capture last year’sClash, but the 2009 PASS South Champion is unlikely to defend his title as his move to Mulkern Racing will likely see the new tandem sticking closer to their Maine roots. Series runner up and 2009 Rookie of the Year Ryan Blaney has a 2010 PASS license in his pocket and should contend for the Championship if his team decide to challenge for the title. Preston Peltier is back for another shot at the title, and 2009 proved that his team is championship caliber. Same goes for Jay Fogleman, who needs just a tad more consistency to capture the crown. Fogleman tied Rowe and Peltier in the win column (each scoring three) and he could be the top dog when the season wraps up in October. (more…)

POLEWARCZYK TO TEST K&N PRO SERIES CAR

HUDSON, N.H. — Joey Polewarczyk Jr. will test a NASCAR K&N Pro Series East car with Fadden Racing next week.

Polewarczyk, who owns five career ACT Late Model Tour victories, will test for team owner Mike Olsen during a southern states swing to open the month of March. Polewarczyk will test at Gresham Motorsports Park in Jefferson, Ga., on Monday, March 1. On March 2, Polewarczyk heads to Greenville-Pickens Speedway in Greenville, S.C., and then to South Boston Speedway in South Boston, Va., on Wednesday, March 3.

“It’s a real great opportunity,” said Polewarczyk, who has three career starts in the K&N Pro Series, formerly known as the NASCAR Camping World East Series. “Even though I’ve had three races with these cars before, I haven’t ever really had one full day just to go and test the cars and get really comfortable. That, to me, is just going to build my confidence.”

Polewarczyk, 20, competed for Fadden Racing last September in his only K&N Pro Series race of the 2009 season. He started fourth before finishing 28th in the 35-car field after being involved in a late-race incident not of his own making.

Polewarczyk made his K&N Pro Series debut at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway in July 2008 with a 16th-place finish for owner Barney McRae. Later that season, he posted a career-best finish of sixth at New Hampshire in a Dave Davis-owned car.

“It’s getting closer to racing season here, so just to get some seat time next week and get away from the snow up here will be nice,” Polewarczyk said. “It will be good to get back at it.”

Polewarczyk finished fourth in the ACT Late Model Tour standings in 2009.

New format in Pro and Semi-Pro classes starts this weekend

New format in Pro and Semi-Pro classes starts this weekend
for Rock Maple Racing snocross series

DERRY, N.H. (Feb. 26, 2010) – In response to input from race teams and driven by a desire to satisfy fans who keep snocross thriving, officials at Rock Maple Racing (RMR) have announced a major change in the way snocross race weekends will unfold.

Starting at this weekend’s ( Feb. 27-28) event at the Orleans County Fairgrounds, Pro and Semi-Pro teams will compete in one class each day from qualifying races through finals.

On Saturday, teams in Pro Stock and Semi-Pro Open will run two rounds of qualifying, an LCQ (last chance qualifier, if needed) and a final. On Sunday, teams will compete in Pro Open and Semi-Pro Stock. The end result gives fans a chance to see Pro and Semi-Pro riders run a final no matter which day they attend.

From a racer’s perspective, this new format allows each team a chance to focus on their Stock or Open sleds on separate days. The mechanics will have more prep time, and even if a rider has a bad day on Saturday he can rest up and still salvage a good points day on Sunday.

RMR was the last sanctioning body in the industry to run qualifying races on Saturday and finals on Sunday. For many years, that format worked well and fans stayed all weekend. Yet in today’s climate, fans often have to choose one day or the other to attend the races. With this new format, they’ll get to see the top talent run heats and finals, no matter which day works best for their schedule.

“We feel this change in format will be beneficial to both racers and our fans,” said Tara Saxton, President of Rock Maple Racing. “Our racers came to us with this request, backed by reasons for the change. We listened to their concerns and want to make things better for them. We also want to ensure our fans see plenty of intense racing on both Saturday and Sunday.”

This weekend’s event is the first of two back-to-back points races at the Orleans County Fairgrounds. Recent snowfall and more in the forecast should bode well for successful shows. Unlike most winters when Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom would typically be covered with two or three feet of snow, much of region had been in a snow-less lull prior to this week.

Yet when the snowmobile racers needed it most, that white gold fell on the Kingdom. Only three points races remain (including this weekend) on the 2009-10 schedule, meaning it’s now or never for those looking to secure a title. Less than 15 points separate Bobby “The Rage” LePage and Mathieu Morin in the Pro classes, so anything can happen.

For racers in the Sport, Junior and Women divisions, your weekend will remain the same. While every team within these divisions is highly-valued by RMR, this change in format was primarily designed to make the weekend flow better for Pro and Semi-Pro teams. All support classes will still enjoy final rounds on Sunday as part of an exciting ‘Main Event’

format.
Spectator gates open at 8 a.m. each day, with racing getting under way promptly at 9 a.m. Admission is $12 per day for adults, or $20 for a weekend pass. For more information, go to www.rockmaple.com.
