Waterbury, VT – The upcoming Labor Day weekend will bring a major test for the American Canadian Tour (ACT) Late Model race teams. The first double-header weekend of the season takes place with a rain make up event at the Twin State Speedway in Claremont, NH on Friday night, September 4. Post time is 7 pm. Following the event at Twin State; the TOUR will head to Thunder Road for the 31st running of the Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200 on Sunday, September 6, 2009.
“This is just like the old days, when we used to race lots of double header weekends”, said Tom Curley, President of the ACT. “I actually liked doing a couple of races a weekend back when we ran the old NASCAR North and ACT Pro-Stock Tours. It seemed to build great camaraderie among the teams who helped put the cars together with each other, and certainly those weekends created some interesting short term rivalries”, continued Curley.
Five points separate Milton, VT’s Scott Payea and his closest competition with fellow Vermonter and 5 time ACT Champion, Brian Hoar. With the ‘best pick 10’ system used on the ACT, Hoar actually leads Payea by a single point if the worst point races of 2009 were dropped by the two drivers. “I will just have to keep doing what I have been doing all season”, said Payea. “I am trying to win every race and not get caught up in the Championship point battle. I know winning the title is our goal, but the focus for our team has been to try and win races and finish well in every race…if we can do that, the points will follow”, continued Payea. Payea has plenty of experience with how the points work. In 2008, the Payea team lost the ACT title by one point following the Chittenden Milk Bowl final event at Thunder Road. Patrick Laperle had to win the Milk Bowl to win the championship. He won the Milk Bowl and thus the championship.
Not one for being conservative in his young racing career, hard charger Joey Polewarczyk Jr. of Hudson, NH has taken over as the leader of the ‘young guns’ on the ACT. ‘Joey Pole’, as he is known, is a two-time winner in ACT competition this season. “I was pretty disappointed last Sunday at the Showdown when we started to overheat from a pin hole in the radiator. I am anxious to race at Twin State Speedway. Our team always likes the challenge that new tracks like Twin State present, and I can’t wait to get back to Thunder Road”, said Pole. He was leading the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic 100 before flying off the turn three burm with just a handful of laps left. The team led by his father, Joe Pole, rebounded at the Vermont Governor’s Cup in June, when they fielded a car for Tony Stewart in his appearance at Thunder Road. Joey Pole went on the win the Governor’s Cup. The 97 team trails front runner Payea by only 35 points with four events to go on the 2009 ACT schedule.
Post time for the Twin State 100 this Friday is 7 pm. There were 37 teams that attempted to qualify when the rains came on August 2. The gates will open at Thunder Road for Labor Day holiday camping at noon on Friday. Over 40 Late Models from throughout New England and Canada are expected to try and qualify for the Labor Day Classic.
Saturday will be qualifying for the Thunder Road regular divisions and Sunday will be a full day of racing with qualifying and the 31st Annual Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200 for ACT Late Models. The Thunder Road Sportsman, Street Stocks and Warriors will also run features on Sunday, September 6. Gates open at noon on Saturday, and 10 on Sunday morning. Post time is 1:30 on Sunday. Advance tickets are now on sale at over 30 Bond Auto locations throughout Vermont and New Hampshire. There is a five-dollar ($5) discount if tickets are purchased in advance until 5 o’clock on Friday, September 4, 2009. Day of race tickets will be $25 for the Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200. The posted purse is over $40,000.00

NAPLES ME (9/1/2009) The Pro All Stars Series (PASS) returns to Scarborough Maine’s Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for the fifth annual PASS 400 weekend on September 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th , and the four day short track extravaganza will go a long way toward determining both the 2009 PASS North and PASS National super late model Champions
With just two events remaining on the PASS North schedule, Johnny Clark has a solid lead in the point standings. The defending champ currently enjoys a 40 point margin over Ben Rowe (2370-2330) in the title chase, with Adam Bates at 2310, Derek Ramstrom at 2290 and Kelly Moore in fifth with 2277. With two points available per finishing position and a minimum of 32 cars scheduled to take the grid in the seasons longest race, an upfront finish by Rowe combined with a bad day for Clark could easily tighten the standings. But so far in 2009, Clark has the Beech Ridge advantage with second and seventh place finishes compared to Rowe’s pair of ninth place runs. Both drivers have ten top 10 finishes in eleven starts, so it’s a tossup in that category. But Clark is the defending PASS 300 race winner, so he knows the extra distance setup and strategy that could carry him to a second consecutive $10,000.00 payday.
Adam Bates has had a virtual stranglehold on Beech Ridge victory lane of late. Bates has two wins, two second place runs and a fourth in his last five Beech Ridge starts, and despite a grinding wreck at Thompson International Speedway that completely destroyed his only super late model, he’s managed to regroup and battle back from adversity to remain near the top of the point standings.
There have been seven different winners in the last seven PASS North super late model races, and the last two have been first time wins scored by Randy Turner (Unity ME) and Tom Scully Jr. (Seekonk MA). There are plenty of talented drivers that haven’t crossed the stripe first in 2009, and there’s no doubt that another first time winner could emerge in the 300.
The PASS National Championship four race mini-series hasn’t been on track since May when Ben Rowe scored at Hickory Motor Speedway, but Beech Ridge is round two of the series, where Rowe leads by a scant two point margin over Jeff Fultz. Ryan Blaney is third, followed by Texan Trey Mitchell and South Carolina’s Hal Goodson. It’s all but impossible to miss one of the four races and remain in contention for the title, so you can expect all of the front runners to be on hand for the PASS 300, including Cassius Clark, the defending National Series Champion. Clark sits 21st in the National standings after a bad result at Hickory in the spring, but he will be looking to pull himself up in the title chase at Beech Ridge. Johnny Clark is seventh in the National standings and may make a run at the title if the team fares well in round two. The National Championship Series continues at Southern National Raceway Park in Lucama North Carolina on Saturday September 26th and wraps up at South Boston (VA) Speedway on Saturday October 17th with the Mason-Dixon Meltdown.
PASS 400 weekend kicks off on Thursday September 10 with a wild night of racing for the Beetle Bugs/Runnin’ Rebels,Trucks, Mad Bomber/Outlaw type cars and Beech Ridge 305s. Racing goes green at 6:00 PM. Friday is a practice day for all weekend divisions. Saturday it’s qualifying races for the PASS Mods, Sportsman and Super Late Models as well as heats and features for the Road Runners (30 laps),the Nelcar Legends (50 laps) and the Wildcats/Strictlys in a big 75 lap showdown.
Sunday is filled with PASS feature racing; a “B” feature for the PASS Super Late Models followed by 100 laps for the PASS Sportsman and a 50 lapper for the PASS Mods. Time and weather permitting, a driver meet and greet will follow while the Super Late Model teams set up the infield pit area for their longest (and richest) race of the year, the $10,000.00 to win PASS 300. Both Saturday and Sunday’s racing gets the green flag at noon.

Hudson NH – Louis Maher Jr., Derek Griffith, Keith Caruso, Dean Wendell and Billy Ryder all drove to victory lane in their respective divisions this past Sunday evening at Hudson Speedway.
Travis Nevers and Mark Nevers led the Rookie Stock main to the green flag and ran side by side holding the top two spots for the first three laps. Scotty Duval slipped by the duo bringing teammate Brian Harron along with him. John Morin moved up to third while Harron passed Duval for the lead. The top three ran that way for the mid-portion of the race while Dean Wendell was chasing them down. Wendell caught Morin with five laps to go and went to the outside groove to pass Morin. Staying in the outside lane, Wendell drove past Duval and set his sights on Harron. Harron and Wendell were side by side coming off turn four on the white flag lap but Wendell got off the corner better and nipped Harron by inches. Third through tenth were Duval, Morin Jr., Dan Murphy, Corrie Merritt, Travis Nevers, Jean Desilets, Jerry Lepage and Jared Edson.
It was “All in the Family” night for the Classic Lites as Roger Provost had the early lead in the Classic Lite main before his son Josh Provost took the top spot away. Josh Provost held on to the lead until Jimmy Ryder Jr. blasted past him. Ryder Jr. lost the lead to his brother Billy Ryder who held on for the win. Second through tenth were Ryder Jr., Steve Dickey, Jeff Miller, George Heliwell, Jon Provost, Dennis O’Brien, Danny Shields, Ralph Cook and Roger Provost.
Jef James and Louis Maher traded the lead a few times in the Roadrunner main before Maher settled in and took down the win. James finished second. Loren Smith Jr. made a mad dash in the closing laps and caught the front two but time ran out for Smith and he had to settle for third. Fourth and fifth were Darren Jacobs and Patrick D’Alba.
Hudson, N.H.’s own Derek Griffith won the Thunder Lights main. Finishing second through fifth in Hudson’s youth racing division were Dylan Bilodeau, Bobby Stirk lll, Jen Lord and Dan Fortin.
The V-6 Modified main was much like the Roadrunner main with Walter Boucher and Keith Caruso trading the lead a few times before Caruso settled in the top spot and drove on to victory. Second through fifth were Boucher, Chris Kuebler, Eric Vilandre and Dick Dubois.
Jay Townsend won the Spectator Drags, Scott Duval won the Flagpole Race, and Ronnie Lord won the Spectator Race.
Its back to afternoon racing at Hudson Speedway on Sunday September 6th featuring the return of the Outlaw Sportsman, plus the V-6 Modifieds, Mini Cup Cars, Rookie Stocks, Roadrunners, Thunder Lights, Spectator Race, Spectator Drags and Flagpole Race. Ted Christopher (No. 36 Al-Lee Installations Chevrolet) may have come up just short of the victory at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway, but he still finds himself in the driver’s seat in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour points standings.
Barely.
After rain washed out a trip to Chemung, N.Y., this past weekend, the Tour will resume this Thursday at Thompson (Conn.) International Speedway with a makeup date for the Budweiser 150 presented by New England Dodge Dealers. The race was originally slated to run prior to the combination race at Bristol.
Instead, it will serve as the tour’s return to the track. Christopher, from Plainville, Conn., will return to the .625-mile banked oval where he opened the defense of his championship with a victory in April. He will carry a slight 29-point lead over Todd Szegedy (No. 2 Wisk/Snuggle Ford) of Ridgefield, Conn.
A third Connecticut driver, Ryan Preece (No. 3 Mizzy Construction/Reynold’s Auto Wrecking Chevrolet), from Berlin, has won two of the last three races and is just three points behind Christopher.
In fact, the top five are all within 134 points of the lead.
Donny Lia (No. 4 Mystic Missile Dodge), who passed Christopher late in the Bristol race for the win, has moved up to fourth. The Jericho, N.Y., driver is 82 points behind Christopher and finished third behind Christopher and Jimmy Blewett (No. 12 TS Haulers Chevrolet) at Thompson in April.
Rowan Pennink (No. 93 Monk Mechanics Hand Cleaner Chevrolet) of Huntington Valley, Pa., is enjoying a breakout season and sits fifth.
Thursday’s visit is particularly significant to the points chase because the next time the tour returns to Thompson, it will be for the season finale in October.
Christopher and the rest of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour competitors will get the action going on race day at Thompson with practice at 2 p.m. Time trials are set for 5:30 p.m. and the 150-lap race is scheduled to go green at approximately 8:45 p.m.

THOMPSON, CT. With only five races remaining on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour 2009 schedule, the competition for that division’s championship is really heating up. Defending champion, Ted Christopher, will enter the Budweiser 150 presented by the New England Dodge Dealers at the Thompson Speedway this Thursday night with a slim 29 point advantage over Todd Szegedy. Ryan Preece finds himself only three points behind Szegedy.
The extremely competitive Whelen Modified Tour (WMT) finds itself in a very familiar position with regard to the race for the title. Virtually every year, the lucrative championship honors are not determined until very late in the season if not at the final event of the year at Thompson. This Thursday’s running of the Bud 150 at Thompson will play a vital role in determining the outcome of the title chase for 2009.
` Christopher has maintained the points lead for most of the season. He gave it up briefly to Szegedy but roared back to put himself at the top once again. Szegedy, however, is one tough customer and has the 2003 title to his credit and finished 2nd in 2007 and 3rd last year in the final standings.
The dark horse in what may appear to be a two-man race is Ryan Preece. The eighteen year old driver from Berlin, CT has won two of the last four WMT events and is a mere 32 points away from Christopher. Preece has positioned himself to be a real contender for the prestigious crown. Other drivers in the top five in points are the 2007 champ, Donny Lia and one of the busiest drivers in the northeast, Rowan Pennink. The title will not be settled this Thursday, but the Bud 150 at Thompson is sure to play a major role in determining the eventual winner.
The WMT will be joined by Thompson’s own NASCAR Whelen All American Race Series divisions in their features only presentation. Those races will be preceded by time trials for the WMT. It all gets underway at 5:30 PM. Grandstands will open at 2 PM.

Harrisburg, N.C. (August 31, 2009): Andy Santerre Motorsports together with driver Brett Moffitt have announced that they will compete in this weekend’s Central Iowa Building and Construction Trades 125 at Iowa Speedway, a NASCAR Camping World Series West event. Moffitt will be driving the No. 4 Chevrolet sponsored by Karl Chevrolet. This will be Moffitt’s third start at the track closest to his Grimes, Iowa hometown.
“We’re really excited to be heading back to Iowa Speedway,” said Moffitt. “The last time we were there we had a really competitive car, but we got tight in the last 20 laps or so and finished sixth. I know we can go there and run good so I’m really looking forward to it. I’ll have my friends and family there, and I really think that Iowa is one of the best tracks I’ve gone to with the Camping World Series. I can’t think of a better place to give them a win!”
Moffitt is currently sixth in the NASCAR Camping World Series East point standings with one win, four top-five, and seven top-10 finishes. Only 14 points separate him from the fourth and fifth place drivers as the series comes to its final two-race stretch that kicks off at New Hampshire Motor Speedway later this month. The extra seat time at Iowa should be an advantage for the 17-year-old driver.
“Our last two races are on tracks a mile or bigger,” said Moffitt. “Iowa isn’t quite a mile, but its close enough. The seat time is what’s important. When you’re on track you get a momentum, you get better. We’re still within striking distance of the championship in the East Series so anything I can do to get closer to that, I will.”
Moffitt has cemented a reputation as a go-getter in the NASCAR Camping World Series East. He’s earned a place in the record books as the youngest driver in series history to win a pole, win a race, and lead the series point standings. But this weekend will mark his debut in a West Series stand-alone event.
“I raced with these guys back at the combination race with the East Series in May,” said Moffitt. “Everyone I raced with was clean, and I raced them clean. There are some talented drivers in the field and I look forward to racing with them again.”

Naples, ME 8/31/09- He may only be thirteen and it may have only been his first ever Pro All Stars Series ( PASS) South super late model start but Chase Elliot looked as if he knew each and every move to make to score his first career PASS South series win in his first career start. Elliot used the lapped car of John Batten as a pick to make his way by third place finisher Cassius Clark and then ran down second place finisher Jeff Choquette from ten car lengths back making a last lap pass on his way to securing the win. Bradley McCaskill showed that you can do a lot with a little as he scored his career best finish of fourth followed by another newbie to the series, Andy Loden, who rounded out the top five in his first career start and his second race in a super late model.
John Stancill grabbed the Pro Photo Productions fast qualifier award after posting a time of 14.914 around the 3/8th mile track. Qualifying times easily showed how tough PASS South competition has gotten over the years as half a second separated Stancill from the last place qualifier. After the series top ten redraw it shuffled several drivers around especially Cassius Clark who benefited the most by moving from eighth to the pole position to take the green flag.
An early race caution took out several drivers who never really had a chance to show what they had including Preston Peltier, Alex Yontz, and Tayla Orleans who all could have been a factor late in the going. At the same time the caution flag was being displayed Jeff Choquette had made his move by Cassius Clark for the top spot. From that point on Choquette’s #33 machine lead the next most laps, unfortunately for him that was one lap that he didn’t lead was the one he needed to. Elliot and Choquette raced side by side with the white flag in the air before finally clearing Choquette’s #33 machine coming off of turn four for the win. With dad Bill Elliot and mom Cindy Elliot celebrating in victory lane along with him, it couldn’t have been more fitting for the youngster to add his name to the list of famous drivers that have won at the historic track.
In PASS truck series competition Jody Measamer made it back to back Hickory wins as he cruised to the win in the fifty lap event. Michael Cooper muscled his way past Grant Davidson on the final lap to finish second. The win by Measamer propelled him to second in points over Clint King who previously held the position, however, they all trail Grant Davidson who has lead the newly formed series since the second race of the season back in April.
Next up is round two of the PASS National Championship series, the $10,000.00 to win PASS 300 at Scarborough Maine’s Beech Ridge Motor Speedway on September 12th and 13th. Two weeks later on Saturday September 26th the PASS South series will breathe new life into Kenly, North Carolina’s Southern National Speedway which has been dormant the entire 2009 racing season thus far.

Fredericton, NB – It was a beautiful day for racing in the Geary Woods. A great day for crowning champions. After being washed out on Saturday evening today’s Fan Appreciation day was a success.
In the Coast Tire Street Stock we saw a new champion being crowned. Brian Fox won his first Coast Tire Street Stock Championship. Going into the feature there were just a couple points between Fox and Rick Cashol. Unfortunately Cashol had a mechanical problem which forced him to the pits. He came back and was still on the lead lap but he ran out of time and laps. The rookie of the year was the # 4 of Richard Hartley. Kevin McKeen was the other big story in the Street Stock division taking home the Robin’s Inn Hat Trick Award. McKeen has been getting stronger each week. Matt Matheson finished a close second as Charles Gaddess rounded out the top three.
In the Martin’s Home Heating everyone was on the edge of their seats with the points battle being so close. Michael Banks headed into the day with the points lead but after the heats and dash he saw himself sitting in 2nd, two points behind John Rankin. In the feature Banks was running mid field for most of the race and then moved up to be within a couple spots of Rankin. Banks would pass Rankin and finish one spot ahead forcing the tie breaker for the championship. . Rankin received the championship because he had more feature wins. This is the first championship for Rankin. He has had a great season picking up a couple feature wins. Derek Christie won the 30 lap Sportsman feature. Christie was very strong holding off challenges from George Jamieson and Wade Harris who finished second and third. The rookie of the year was Steve Halpin. Halpin has been around racing for years with his family and this year was his rookie season in the Sportsman divsion.
Greg Fahey is now a repeat Irving Lubricant’s Pro Stock Champion. Fahey was 12 point’s ahead of four time champion Glenn Rasmussen going into today. Fahey had a good run in the 40-lap feature where he finished in second to Brian MacNaughton. Leon Christie was back at Speedway 660 again this week and quietly drove himself into third place. MacNaughton made a daring three wide pass for the lead to claim his first victory of the year. Michael Kyle was the Irving Lubricant’s rookie of the year.
In the 4-cylinder division it was Robert Flowers taking home victory over Kyle Dunster and Kevin Peterson.
There was so much excitement going on at the speedway today. Race fans got a chance to go trackside to meet their favorite drivers in a pre-race autograph session. It was just Halloween in August for sure. Fans were going around gathering treats and pictures and autographs from the drivers. Congratulations once again to Brian Fox, John Rankin and Greg Fahey, they will definitely have some celebrating to do!

U.S Team Takes Overall Victory
Vallee-Jct., QC – Milton’s Brent Dragon dominates the final half of the second annual Showdown at Chaudiere 200 at Autodrome Chaudiere and leads the U.S. team to the overall victory. The first 91 laps saw a battle between former Serie ACT Castrol champion Karl Allard and current ACT Tour point leader Scott Payea.
The two swapped the lead a total of five times before Dragon took the lead from Payea on lap 92. Dragon came from the ninth starting position to lead the final 109 laps of the 200 lap event. The U.S. team took 7 of the top 10 positions on its way to taking the team win for the second year in a row.
The race was slowed by only 5 cautions and took just over an hour to complete. Dragon has already qualified for the ACT Invitational at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on Saturday, September 19.
Next weekend is a doubleheader for the ACT Tour. They will head to Twin State Speedway in Clairmont, NH on Friday, September 4 for the Twin State 100, before heading to Thunder Road International Speedbowl on Sunday, September 6 for the Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200. Saturday, September 5 will be qualifying day for the local divisions at Thunder Road.

MONTREAL – JR Fitzpatrick showed up to win—no question about it. He won the NAPA Autopro 100 in NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 action from Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in dominating fashion.
The 21-year-old out of Cambridge, Ont., took control of the race when he slipped inside of Kerry Micks in the hairpin turn on the ninth lap of the race. From there, he went on to build a lead of over five seconds before the caution flag waved on Lap 22 to set up an attempt at a green-white-checkered finish.
On the restart, the front of the field got stacked up as they entered Turn 3. As a result, the car of Scott Steckly ended up on its roof after making contact with Don Thomson Jr. Once the dust cleared, the cars were brought down pit road and the red flag was displayed which ended the event. The race was scheduled for 23 laps or 75 minutes leaving just the one opportunity to finish the race under green.
It was Fitzpatrick’s first win of the season and the fourth in his series career. He last won on June 15, 2007 at Mosport International Raceway in Bowmanville, Ont.
Points leader Andrew Ranger was able to clear the incident in Turn 3 and finish second. DJ Kennington, who held down second place in the closing laps, was not as fortunate. He got turned around in the fray and blended back into the field in the fourth position which is where NASCAR officials determined his finishing position to be.
After winning the first three road-course events of the year, Ranger was foiled in his bid to win all four road-course races on the 2009 slate. A season ago in this event, Fitzpatrick led much of the race before a late-race bobble allowed Ranger to take the win.
Kerry Micks led the first eight laps of the race and closed out the race in third place. Mark Dilley finished fifth equaling his season-high finish.
Ron Beauchamp Jr., Pierre Bourque, Jeff Lapcevich, Daryl Harr and Jarrad Whissell rounded out the top 10.
The race was slowed three times due to caution for a total of six laps. The race lead changed just one time between two drivers.
In the point standings, Ranger expanded his lead on Kennington by 10 points and now has a 134-point lead heading into the final three race of the season. Beauchamp and Steckly, in third and fourth, respectively, are right on Kennington’s heels.
In qualifying on Saturday, Alex Tagliani picked up his second straight series pole award after winning the pole two weeks ago at Quebec’s Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres. In today’s race, Tagliani was knocked out of the race after just 11 laps due to mechanical problems.
The NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 takes a weekend off before heading to Barrie Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 12 for the Torbram Electric 300 presented by The Source.
