NAPLES ME – (7/21/2009) There’s something for everyone this weekend when Groveton New Hampshire’s Riverside Speedway once again hosts Summerfest 2009, a weekend of motorized mayhem that promises to be bigger and better than ever.
Presented by Dalton Mountain Motors and the Marshall Insurance Agency, the two day extravaganza kicks off on Friday with the $1,000.00 to win Ray Haskell Memorial 100 for street stocks plus late models, and daredevils. The monster trucks share the spotlight, with Predator and Pouncer on hand to wow the fans. The action gets underway at 7:00 PM.
On Saturday night its PASS time, with the lightning quick Pro All Stars Series super late models taking center stage for 150 laps of green flag racing on the tough quarter mile. The popular PASS Mods share the spotlight with Riverside’s own Cyclones, Daredevils and Angels, plus another round of monster truck thrills and chills with Predator and Pouncer. Saturday’s events kick off at 5:00 PM .
There’s free camping on site and best of all, a two day ticket is just $25.00 for adults, $20.00 for juniors and seniors and eight bucks for kids five to nine. Friday only adult tickets are $12.00, and Saturday’s is $15.00.
2008 PASS North super late model Champion Johnny Clark kicked off his title charge at Riverside last season, earning the victory in a downpour over Travis Benjamin and Derek Ramstrom. Clark currently holds a forty five point lead over Ramstrom in the standings, and Adam Bates trails Ramstrom by just four points.
Andy Shaw has been on a tear in the PASS Mods, winning three of the first five races and topping the point standings by a 30 point margin over Scott Grant. Steve Bennett Jr. trails Grant by two markers in third. Fourth place points man Bill Dixon was the 2008 Summerfest PASS Mod winner, and he’ll be looking to gain ground on Shaw and the others with another Riverside win.

Hudson, NH – The Outlaw Sportsman headlined an action packed show with veteran Lee Weldy picking up his first win of the year in the Jim Daley owned car. Ron Bolduc looked like he had the car to beat after taking over the top spot from Ron Lord Jr. at the halfway mark, but had to pit with a flat tire just three laps from the checkers. Having recovered from an early race spin, Weldy took over the top spot from Bolduc and drove on to victory lane. Second through tenth were Mitch Wendell, Sandy Lee, Chuck Dehney, Ron Lord Jr., Tim Casey, Mark Parenteau, Bobby Allen, Bob Riopelle and Shane Gendron.
Shauna Randall chased Dylan Bilodeau for the last half of the Thunder Lite feature but couldn’t make it past Bilodeau’s Mustang. Randall made it to Bilodeau’s rear bumper a few times but couldn’t get further and had to settle for second. Sammy Gilman beat Gage Harron for third and Tyler Hatch was fifth.
Louie Maher made it three in a row in the Roadrunner feature, followed by Jef James, Loren Smith Jr., Patrick D’Alba and Peter Raby.
Corrie Merritt showed the way in the Rookie stock feature. Roland LaPlante finished second holding off a slew of cars. John Morin finished third. Fourth through tenth were Dean Wendall, Scott Duval, Keith ”Slika” Ennis, John Cianciulli, Brian Harron, Billy Clement Jr. and Heath Gourdellotte.
Dave Heliwell won the Mini-Cups. Kyle Kuchla and Chris Igo finished second and third.
Ron Lord won the Spectator Drags. Timmy Lord won the Spectator Race and Dan Gill won the Flagpole Race.
Next Sunday, July 26th, is “Christmas In July” at Hudson Speedway featuring the return of the Classic Lites, Rookies, Roadrunners, Thunder Lites, Spectator Drags, Flagpole Race, Spectator Race, Enduros, fun and games for the kids including on track bike races and a visit from Santa Claus. THOMPSON, CT. Long time auto racing official, Mike Chapman, has been appointed to a new position a Thompson International Speedway. Chapman will be responsible for making judgment calls during the running of race events at the Connecticut oval. His appointment becomes effective immediately.
This newly created position, Competition Director, is designed to provide greater continuity and consistency among track officials and competitors. Chapman has many years of experience in the world of auto racing. He has served as a race team Crew Chief, Competition Steward and served for many years as Race Director for the True Value Modified Racing Series. Chapman has been part of the Thompson team for the last two years.
NASCAR Chief Steward, Dick Brooks expressed his appreciation for the addition of Chapman’s new position. Brooks will continue to be the track’s NASCAR Chief Steward. This appointment will allow Brooks to focus on other key areas in the NASCAR Whelen All American Series program at Thompson.
Brooks will assume a more active role in the pit area dealing with rules and technical calls. He will provide a strong influence in maintaining proper interpretation and implementation of race rules and will also present new leadership for the entire race day technical team.
Dick Brooks is highly respected as a veteran official on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, Race Director for the North-South shootout and has over thirty years of experience at race tracks from Maine to Florida. His expertise is valued by the Hoenig family, owners of the Thompson International Speedway.
“The nature of our sport has changed over the years and we felt it was necessary for us to continue to adapt to these changes. I feel that the addition to Mike Chapman to this new position will further enhance our weekly race program and will be an invaluable help to Dick Brooks,” said track owner, Don Hoenig.
The position of Chief Steward is one of the most difficult jobs in NASCAR today. Dealing with over 150 competitors, thousands of race fans and the media makes this position a crucial one for any race track operation.

Winchester, NH: This past Saturday, Monadnock Speedway hosted the annual Kayem Hot Dog Night where Julia Raymond went down in the history books as the first female to win a 4-cylinder Enduro feature event. Raymond is the grand daughter of the legendary Roger Raymond. Matt Mead captured the Super Stock Showdown special event. Jim Boniface celebrated his second victory in the Modifieds. Both Mini Stock competitor Derek Bergquist and Full Size Enduro competitor Jared Edson celebrated first of the season wins.
The mini stocks rolled onto the track with Beth Adams on the pole. Adams took the lead as Derek Bergquist challenged her for top spot early. Chris Davis, Joey Kendall and Chris McTaggart followed. On lap three, Kendall made the pass three wide for second out of turn four as Adams was shuffled back to fifth. Bergquist took over the lead. On lap nine, the caution flew as Davis suffered a flat tire. On the restart, Bergquist on the gas to remain the leader. Ten laps to go, Kendall went hard into turn two dropping from second to fourth. JameyKing moved into second as Rivet ran third. On lap seventeen the battle brewed for second as Rivet. Rivet made the pass under King and moved into second. Bergquist continued to lead. On lap to go, Bergquist and Rivet pulled away from the field as the last lap battle for third was between King and Kendall. Rivet, with a half of lap to go for second spun on the backstretch giving second to King. At the checkers it was former champion Derek Bergquist with the victory followed by King, Kendall, McTaggart and Davis.
The Modifieds took the track for their July 11th event that was cut short on lap two due to rain. Vic Johnson took the field to the green as the first caution flew for Rob Williams striking the backstretch wall collecting Todd Patnode, Kirk Alexander and Eric LeClair. On the restart, Johnson took the lead as Rusty Ball challenged him on the outside. On lap eight, Ball moved to the inside of Johnson as Johnson went too high into the turn and spun. Ball restarted the race as he felt the pressure from Jim Boniface for the lead. Ed Reed and Dave Berube battled for fourth. On lap fifteen, points leader Kirk Alexander retired to the pits as Boniface made the inside moved under Ball for the lead. Five laps later, Ball spun on the backstretch and into the infield giving Todd Patnode second followed by Reed, Berube and Marty Radewick. Half way to go, Patnode was on the move to catch the race leader as Radewick felt Josh Cantara on his back bumper for fifth. Ten laps to go, Patnode reeled in Boniface and was on his back bumper. Berube continued to work on Reed for third. On the final lap, Boniface and Patnode battled for the win coming out of turn four. Patnode made contact with Boniface causing him to lose the top position. At the checkers it was Patnode by a nose followed by Boniface, Reed, Berube and Cantara. Patnode was penalized one position for rough riding giving the victory to Boniface.
Kevin Ouellette set the pace for the special Super Stock Showdown event. At the green, Ouellette quickly controlled the lead as Andy Brooks and Nancy Muni battled for second. By lap five, Brooks was all over the back of Ouellette for the lead as Muni, Ken Springer and Scott Cashman followed. On lap ten, points leader Jeremy Sorel made contact with Springer bringing out the first caution. On the restart, Ouellette attempted to hold off Brooks but by the next lap Brooks was the new leader. A few laps later, Matt Mead worked his way into second and began to hunt down Brooks for the lead. On lap fifteen, the third caution of the event was displayed as Muni, Ed Brehio Jr and Ed Brehio III all make contact. Brooks led the field to the restart as Mead set his sights on the lead. On lap twenty, Mead was shown as the new leader as Brooks had to settle in second. Oullette felt the pressure from Bob Bedaw and Jeff Wright for third. Five laps to go, Mead widened his lead as Ouellette held off Brehio Jr for third. Bedaw, Wright and Sorel all battled hard for the fifth spot. At the end, it was Mead capturing the Showdown title followed by Brooks, Brehio Jr, Ouellette and Bedaw.
Outlaw Pro Steve Gautier brought the field to the green for their feature event. By lap one, the fans saw a new leader of Russ Hersey as Gauthier held onto second. Brandon Ovitt and Bryon Baker challenged each other for third. Ten laps into the books, Hersey cruised away from the field as Baker continued to put the heat on Ovitt for third. Aric Blanchette sat in fifth. Half way to go, baker continued to work on Ovitt as Mike Parks challenged Blanchette for fifth. Hersey remained to show the way as parks made the pass on Blanchette for fifth. Ten to go, Ovitt and Baker approach a lap car causing Baker to lose ground to Ovitt. On the final lap, it was Hersey dominating the race to take the checkers followed by Gauthier, Ovitt, Baker and Parks.
The very healthy field of 4-cylinders rolled onto the track where Julia Raymond took the lead early. By lap ten, Raymond was working through lap traffic as CJ Johnson, Ed LeClair, Josh Houle and John Walker followed. Twenty laps into the books, Raymond continued to run strong as the field behind her battled for the top five spot. Lap twenty five, Houle was on the back bumper of Johnson for second as heath Renaud began to catch the two. On lap thirty, Raymond continued to lead as a three way battle for second developed between Houle, Johnsn and Renaud. Ten laps to go, Raymond cleared her way through very heavy lap traffic as Renaud moved into second followed by Josh Houle. Dick Houle broke into the top five chasing down the top three. On the white flap lap, Raymond worked through lap traffic as Dick Houle ran side by side with Josh Houle for second. At the end, it was Julia Raymond making history as the first female to post a 4-cylinder Enduro victory followed by Dick Houle, Josh Houle, Heath Renaud and CJ Johnson.
The Full Size Enduro concluded the evening’s program with Ryan Rivet being scored as the early leader followed by Duane Stonier, Dan Cheveralls, Dan Figueiredo and Randy Rameau. Rivet developed a good leas as Jared Edson challenged Cheveralls for third. Lap twenty, Rivet continued to lead but felt the pressure from Edson as Dan Yagmin moved into the top three. Five laps later, Edson took over the lead as Yagmin attempted to make the pass on Rivet for second. Lap thirty five, Yagmin ran second and beagn to challenge Edson for the lead. The two ran side by side with Yagmin coming out on top. Ten laps to a battle for third developed between Rivet, Stonier and Rameau. Rameau made the pass and was on the back bumper of Rivet for third. At the checkers, it was Yagmin followed by Edson, Rameau, Rivet and Stonier. Due to the three win rule, Edson was awarded the win.
This Saturday, the Modifieds will return to the high banks of Monadnock Speedway for Whelen Night at the races along with the Super Stocks, Mini Stocks, 4-cylinder and Full Size Enduros. Race time is at 6pm.

Naples, ME 7/20/09– For a second straight season Durham, North Carolina native Jay Fogleman took home the coon skin cap for winning the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Daniel Boone Classic 125 at Newport (TN) Speedway Saturday night. Fogleman, who never raced outside the top three all night long, survived several late race bumper tags by seventeen-year-old Jake Crum and a side by side battle with PASS South series points leader Ben Rowe to capture the win. Rounding out the top five was Preston Peltier and Heath Hindman who earned his best finish of the 2009 season.
The 125 lap event started off with action from the drop of the green flag with the top two drivers in the championship standings bringing the field down to the start with Ryan Blaney to the inside and point leader Ben Rowe up topside. Rowe quickly took command of the race with a solid start leading the first ten laps of racing action before Fogleman took over the point, leading until a turn two spin by Scott Patton brought out the second yellow flag of the night. The traditional PASS series double file restart brought the field back together briefly before Rowe along with Blaney took advantage of a tire spinning restart by Fogleman. The next fifty plus laps went clean and green allowing Rowe to open the largest lead of the night but not before Fogleman managed to reel the Maine native within a four car lengths distance just before the caution would wave on lap eighty-one.
The long run allowed drivers like Hindman, Crum, and Preston Peltier to work their way to the front while Blaney and Justin Wakefield needed the break in action to make adjustments to their fading machines. One final restart with just thirty-one laps left made for some interesting racing. Rowe and Fogleman battled side by side in two for the lead when it was as if Rowe stabbed the brakes to keep his #4 machine from making contact with Fogleman which forced third place runner Heath Hindman into the back of Rowe stacking up the field three wide for fourth, fifth, and sixth position.
Crum used this opportunity to muscle his way to the front, coming within striking distance of Fogleman’s #4 machine with just a handful of laps remaining. It wasn’t quite enough as Fogleman stretched his lead with one to go before capturing his third PASS South series win this season. The win also tied Fogleman with Corey Williams as the all time PASS South series wins leader throughout the series’ four year history.

(Shediac, N.B.) — The Arsenault demolition clan from PEI was out in full force Sunday afternoon at the Centre for Speed’s Barely Used Auto Parts ‘Day of Destruction’ event with three cars entered in the Demolition Derby. When all the dust and car parts had settled, Eric Arsenault (#86) of Wellington, PEI was the last car left running and claimed the win in the
exciting feature event of the afternoon.
A perennial front-runner in demolition events, cousin Billy Arsenault (#2) of Abram Village, PEI put the pedal to the floor right off the green flag on his 1982 Impala, and after a violent collision, saw his rear axle fly off relegating him to a front row seat for the rest of the event with a disabled vehicle.
Stéphane Poirier (#68) of St. Louis de Kent, another front-runner in such event, also saw his afternoon come to a sudden halt after a rear end collision which crushed the back end of his
1968 Pontiac Bonneville racecar right into the back seat and also disabled his rear wheels.
Meanwhile, André Tremblay (#29) of St. Louis de Kent almost flipped his 1992 Lumina after sideswiping another competitor. His car racecar tipped onto its two driver-side wheels for a few moments before crashing back down onto all four wheels. Moments later, Eric Arsenault put a final hit on André’s racecar to claim the win with Rémi Gallant (#11) of Haute Aboujagane claiming third.
It was a good afternoon
for Paul Costain (#12) of Moncton who claimed wins aboard his 1991 Plymouth Acclaim in both the 10-lap Full Contact race and the wild Figure 8 race. Meanwhile, Bruce Haché (#37) of Beresford piloted his 1991 Accord to first place in the 50-lap Endurance race ahead of Simon Dupuis (#26) of Cap-Pelé.
Finally, Rémi Gallant put on the best demonstration of tire-burning action in the Burnout Competition putting a final exclamation point by blowing both rear tires to the delight of the crowd.
Next weekend, the Centre for Speed (CFS), Atlantic Canada’s Super Speedway and “Metro Moncton’s Playground of Power”, will host two very different events.
On Friday, July 24th at 7:00 p.m., the CFS will host the concert in the 2009 Pumphouse Brewery Classic Rock Series . The evening will feature Canadian classic rock band “The Headpins” fronted by rock vocal legend Darby Mills best known for their hits “Don’t It Make Ya Feel (like dancin’)”, “Turn It
Loud”, “Just one more Time”, and others. The Headpins will be supported by Loaded Dice featuring Don Coleman with their tribute to AC/DC and ZZ Top along with multiple Blues award winners “Glamour Puss”.
The crews in the South East Challenge Series, a partnership between the CFS and Riverglade Speedway for drivers in all four regular divisions of Sportsman, Street Stock, Mini Stocks and Four Fun race cars, will be back at it on Sunday, July 26th at 2:00 p.m. with the Buyer Flyer twin 50-lap features for Sportsman and Four Fun divisions, as well as regular points racing for Mini and Street Stock competitors.

In a special 75 Lap Little Enduro feature scheduled on a Saturday night, and sponsored by Cap’s Tavern of Brewer and Judy’s Restaurant on State St. in Bangor, Darren Durrell of Newburgh came back from a Wednesday night disqualification that took a win away from him to take the win in a race that went the full 75 laps, from green to checkers, without a stop. Durrell wrestled the lead from Donny Blanchard of Orrington on the 11th lap and held Blanchard at bay for the remainder of the race. Blanchard finished in second with Kyle Gallant of Veazie, who had posted a win in the Sport-Four Division earlier in the evening, finishing in third. Newburgh’s Ken Getchell finished the race in fourth, the first car a lap down to the leaders, and Frankfort’s Chris Burbelo was fifth. Durrell and Blanchard each won a qualifying heat, and started the race on the front row. The Little Enduro feature replaced the usual Late Model Feature as the Late Model drivers requested the night off to attend Oxford 250 week-end at Oxford Plains Speedway.
Strictly Street action saw a new winner in victory lane as Orrington’s Nick Huff, in his first ever appearance at Speedway 95 as a driver, came from a 6th place starting position and passed from veteran driver Doug Day of Kenduskeag on lap 9 to take the lead, and later, his first checkered flag. Points leader Bradley Norris of Ellsworth, who got tangled up in a chain reaction collision at the start when Travis Poulin’s Monte Carlo failed to gain speed when the green flag flew, chased Huff for the second half of the race, but was unable to catch the youngster and settled for a runner up finish. Doug Day finished in third, followed by Jim Carr Jr. of Clifton in his first Strictly Street appearance of the year in fourth and Shawn Hamel of Bangor in fifth. Huff is the son for former Speedway 95 and Unity Raceway Pro Stock driver Kris Huff, and grandson of Hermon’s Doug Sinclair, a Super Street driver at the speedway. Bradley Norris was the qualifying race winner.
The Super Street race was a fender rubbing and bumper banging affair which led to another first time winner in the division. Ed Drake of Vasselboro took advantage of a restart on lap 21 to pass points leader Kris Watson of Hermon and lead the final four laps to the win. Watson and Hermon’s Doug Sinclair had been locked in a fierce battle for the top spot until Sinclair went into turn three a little too high and a little too hard, and ended up against the turn three tire wall. Sinclair had been leading and was attempting to overlap a slower car when his misfortune struck. On the restart it was Watson on the outside by choice, and Drake on the inside, with Drake powering by Watson to take the lead when the green flag flew. Watson finished second with Holden’s Steve Moulton recovering from an early race skirmish with Franklin’s Mike Overlock to finish third. Artie Mcguire of Bucksport finished fourth in his first appearance of the season, and Danforth’s Nick Kinney finished in fifth.
Kyle Gallant of Veazie returned to victory lane in the Sport-Four division following a couple of poor finishes due to mechanical issues with his car, and did it in fine fashion, racing points leader David Green side by side over the last 6 laps of the race. The lap 14 caution, which set up the race to the finish, was caused when Hermon’s Ralph Allen and LaGrange driver Rick Grant came together in turn four, causing Grant to spin and stall. Prior to the restart, Grant decided to show his displeasure with Allen and ran into him on the pace lap. Grant was black flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct, and Allen continued in the race to finish fourth, behind Green, who finished second, and third place finisher Brent Fletcher of Milford. The fifth spot went to Ellsworth’s Bradley Norris, who did double duty, racing in two divisions during the evening’s activity.
Saturday night racing continues at Speedway 95 on July 25, when Budweiser, King of Beers sponsors the show that includes a 50 lap Dysart’s Late Model feature, the Super Streets, Strictly Streets, Allenfarm Fence Co Sport-Fours and the Wicked Good Vintage Racing League.

Scarborough,Maine- With approximately 200 career victories to his credit, Mike Rowe used his experience to foil the youth movement on Saturday night at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. Rowe won the Pro Series 40 lap main event as the NASCAR Whelan All American Series was in action at the Maine oval.
Keith McKinnon led the field to green and jumped out front at the start. Bub Bilodeau moved to second place on lap 5 and quickly set out to take the lead position. Bilodeau took the lead on lap 9 with rookie Bradley Babb moving to second. Aaron Ricker and Mike Rowe moved to third and fourth at this point in the race also becoming factors.
The caution flag waved on lap 15 and a very interesting running order was in place for the restart. Veteran and multi time track champion Bilodeau was leading with rookie Babb second and young Ricker third followed by Rowe. On the restart, Bilodeau went to the front but Babb was hanging to his outside.
Babb would pass Bilodeau on the outside for the lead on lap 28 and Rowe moved from fourth to second 2 laps later. Babb and Rowe were just beginning a battle for the lead on lap 33 when the caution flag flew again. On the restart Babb and Rowe went side by side for 2 laps before Rowe was able to go in front and secure the win. Babb finished second with Bilodeau third, David Oliver and Jay Sands fourth and fifth.
Justin Cusack won the 35 lap Sport Series feature race which was his second win in the last 3 starts for the rookie driver. Cusack bolted from the pole position with former champion Don Morse running second. The only caution flag of the race waved on lap 9 but was not enough to slow Cusack as he maintained his lead to the finish. Morse finished second with Doug Wolf third. Craig Smith and Nate Leavitt were fourth and fifth.
Brian Caswell shook off the demons that have plagued his season and won the 30 lap Wildcat race. Matt Gain led the first lap and then Caswell put the power down and took over command of the race on lap 2. The caution free race worked to Caswells advantage despite the efforts of Gain late in the race to take the win. Gain settled for second with Bill Morris third. Matt Hodgdon and Lyman McKeage were fourth and fifth.
Shawn Brackett continued his hot streak with another Road Runner feature race win. Kari Thibodeau led the first 2 laps until Clayton Loubier took his turn at the front. Brackett blasted into the lead on lap 13 and cruised home for the win. Ray Letellier was second with David Turner third. Matt Dow and Taylor Lampron were fourth and fifth.
