EAST MONTPELIER, Vt. – Thunder Road is always a challenge for any driver, but this weekend Packard was up to the challenge. Starting back in the 23rd starting spot, Packard, driving three wide right up the middle at times, found herself finishing 6th when the checkers fell on the 17th Annual Merchants Bank 150. Packard and the 9ME Northstar Fireworks/Packard Fuels team spent Saturday working on getting the car tuned in and to Emily’s liking. “We had a pretty decent day of practice,” said Packard. “We had limited tires to practice on, so we kept the number of laps that we ran fairly low. We weren’t that far off and our practice times were consistent all day.”

BRADFORD, VT – Opening night (day) is a long at the Ridge, with the festivities starting out at the Bradford Jiffy Mart for the annual Bear Ridge Car Show. The field was filled with some spectacular looking machines, and it was a difficult task to pick out the best three for each division. The awards will be presented to the finest on May 16th when the USAC DMA Midgets return. Following the car show the trailers headed up the hill to hit the track for the first time, for an afternoon practice. Then it was time to race and the first green flag on the 48th consecutive racing season was thrown at the infamous 6:00pm(ish) time. After heat races, the dash for cash for the Midgets and a Blackmount Equipment Semi Feature for the DIRTcar Sportsman Coupes, the Ridges beloved Penny Davis who was taken from us in March was taken for a final ride around the track in the very famous #6 driven by Promoter/owner and multi-track champion C.V. Butch Elms. The infield was lined shoulder to shoulder around the ¼ mile with drivers, crews, and family from the pits.

Eddie MacDonald returned to the track to finish 17th after a spectacular crash over the turn two embankment early in the American Canadian Tour’s 17th Annual Merchants Bank 150 at Thunder Road in Barre, Vt. on Sunday, May 3. The Freddie Peterson owned Chevy sustained heavy front end damage after a blown left rear tire sent the car and Eddie Mac sailing off the track and down the hill on lap five.
“That was definitely a hard crash,” said Eddie Mac after the race. ”I made contact with another car the lap before, and unfortunately it cut down the tire. When I went into turn one I just sailed up the track and over turn two. It is a strange feeling to look out the windshield straight down at the ground. There was a stone wall there that stopped the car from flipping over but it tore up the front of the car and bent something underneath. The crew did a great job to get me back out there but it was a long day to ride round and not compete for the win.”

ANDREW MCLAUGHLIN TAKES 95 SEASON OPENER
Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington won the Dysart’s Late Model feature at Speedway 95 Saturday night after a side by side battle with 2014 Late Model Champion Brenton Parritt that ended on lap 15 when Parritt slowed and headed for the pit. McLaughlin then easily rode to victory with 13 year old rookie Dylan Street of Old Town coming home second in his first ride in the speedway’s top division. Bradley Smart of Bradley finished third, and Parritt came back out on the final lap of the race to finish fourth. Only four cars started the 25 lap event that was reduced from the scheduled 40 due to the low car count.
In the Darling’s Ford Sportsman, Shane Tatro of Holden took the lead for good on the 21st lap of the 25 lap feature when Kris Matchett of Skowhegan, who had been swapping the lead with Tatro all race long, suddenly slowed and left the race with mechanical issues. Dean Clements of Brooks moved up to second and stayed on Tatro’s bumper for the final four laps, placing second at the checkers. Rookie Trey Brown of Winterport finished third in his first outing in the division with Matchett getting credit for a fourth place finish. Turbush wins at Waterford, Third straight MRNETS win
Roger Turbush found himself standing in victory lane yet again this season, taking the checkers at the New London – Waterford Seedbowl. Turbush has swept the Mr. Rooter New England Truck Series season to this point, winning race events at Thompson and Stafford to start the year.
Turbush started last on the field after being black flagged in his heat race for leaking fluid onto the track. Frank Dumicich Jr, Ed Puleo, and Andy Lindeman took turns leading as Turbush worked his way into the top 5 by lap 7. While fighting for the lead near the halfway mark, Dumicich Jr. and Puleo made contact, sending Puleo hard into the backstretch wall and Lindeman through the grass. Puleo and Lindeman were too damaged to continue and Dumicich Jr. needed to pit, handing the lead to Turbush.
