Hermon, ME- Speedway 95 was the home for the second round of the Linnehans Credit Now late model triple crown series this past Saturday night. 29 of the best late model drivers in New England took the green flag in the 54 lap feature which paid $1,754.00 to win. Right from the start which saw Liberty’s Josh St. Clair over take pole sitter Mike Hopkins there was an abundance of cautions. However restart after restart St. Clair would choose the outside groove to restart the race and eventually take the checkered flag. Mike Hopkins who is a Speedway 95 regular would take home second and Wiscasset Raceway late model champion Chris Thorne in his first ever visit to the 1/3 mile oval would get third. Fourth went to Chris Pangburn and fifth to Ryan Deane. The point leader of the triple crown series going into the race was T.J. Watson who due to prior commitments was not able to contend which handed the point lead over to Josh St. Clair who finished second in the first triple crown race at Wiscasset Raceway back on May 30th. St. Clair still has one more race to go before he can officially be called the champion and that will be at Unity Raceway on Oct. 12th which is Unity’s Long John weekend.
Upcoming Events: September 26th & 27th The Ray Haskell Ford Fall Brawl at Wiscasset Raceway!!!

Scarborough ME – (9/14/09) Mike Rowe took advantage of leader Trevor Sanborn’s misfortune just 10 laps from the checker to assume the top spot and hold off DJ Shaw for his third PASS 300 victory at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway Sunday afternoon. It was a triumphant return to the series for the Maine racing legend who earned the immaculate Scarborough Maine Speed Plant’s Pro Series Championship title one week earlier.
After a meet and greet for the fans and driver introductions, Scott Chubbuck and home track hero Aaron Ricker led the thirty-two car field down to Chief Starter Rick Shepherd’s green flag and a mid pack melee involving TJ Brackett, Bub Bilodeau , Richie Dearborn and a host of others brought out an immediate yellow.A multi-time Beech Ridge champion, Bilodeau’s day was done just a half lap after it began. Chubbuck took over from the outside on the restart with Jay Fogleman in tow and Ricker and Kelly Moore battling for third. Ricker raced back under Fogleman for second and DJ Shaw was on the move.. He passed Moore on lap six, Fogleman on seven and set sail after the front two. Ricker was racey on the outside and took the lead back from Chubbuck on lap 14, while Kelly Moore worked his way by Shaw for third and went after Chubbuck for second. Second was his on lap 18, and the veteran was ready to challenge the kid for the top spot. The lead was Moore’s on lap 23, with Ricker, Chubbuck, DJ Shaw and Mike Rowe the top five on lap twenty five.
Adam Bates and Derek Ramstrom brought out caution number two; Ramstrom ‘s day ended on the turn one rumble strips and Adam Bates retired after a run in the front stretch wall. Ryan Blaney, Cassius Clark, Johnny Clark and a host of others pitted; Cassius Clark was the only one in the bunch to take on tires. Ricker jumped out in front from the outside while Moore battled back on the bottom and DJ Shaw took over third from Chubbuck. The caution flew for a stray wheel from Ryan Blaney’s racer, bringing an early end to the North Carolina high school sophomores’ day. Meanwhile Moore was on the point for the restart and he kept Ricker behind him as the field began to string out. At the fifty lap mark it was Moore, Ricker, Shaw, Chubbuck, Mike Rowe, Trevor Sanborn, Ben Rowe, Fogleman, Steve Knowlton and David Oliver the top ten. Scott Alexander spun in turn four, bringing out a fourth caution. Cassius Clark, Johnny Clark, Seekonk Speedway regular Tom Scully Jr. and Travis Benjamin were among the cars on pit road at lap 55. Cassius Clark remounted his original set of rubber during the stop.
Moore remained in control until lap seventy when Ricker shot by on the bottom for the lead. But Moore came back to dog Ricker, taking back the spot on lap 87. Lap 100 came and went with no changes in the front five other than Shaw and Chubbuck swapping spots, and the fast guys working lap traffic. In fact the front group was less than a straight away from putting Johnny Clark back a lap at this point in the race. The caution at lap 111 took care of that issue; Mike Rowe, Cassius Clark and Alan Tardiff were some of the notables in the pits. Chubbuck took the top spot away from Moore on a lap 129 restart and DJ Shaw took third from Ricker with Trevor Sanborn riding in fifth. When the crossed flags were shown at lap 150 it was Chubbuck, Moore, Shaw, Ricker, Sanborn, Oliver, Johnny Clark, Donnie Whitten, Travis Benjamin and Mike Rowe in the top ten spots Seventeen cars remained on the lead lap at the half way mark.
As the field approached lap 200 Chubbuck was in front of Moore by half the front stretch, with the same distance back to Ricker in third. The Tamworth NH youngster reeled in Moore for second shortly thereafter. Mike Rowe had worked his way back into the front pack and Travis Benjamin sat fifth. With the top three still on track without a pit stop, Mike Rowe was looking like yet another PASS 300 was in his reach. Dave Oliver spun on top of turn three at lap 201, and the seventh caution provided the front runners the opportunity to pit that they all so desperately needed. Wholesale changes at the front resulted; Jay Fogleman assumed the lead with Steve Legendre second and Travis Benjamin third. Benjamin wasted no time getting by Legendre, and Mike Rowe wasted even less taking over second from Benjamin. DJ Shaw ran fourth with Trevor Sanborn fifth. Mike Rowe took over the lead on lap 210, and he and Fogleman pulled away from the rest of the field. Sanborn decided it was time to drop the hammer and the two-time PASS South winner gave chase. At lap 225 he had plenty of time to run down the front two; but did he have the car to do it? He was under Fogleman for second at lap 230, and only a lapped car and half the front stretch stood between him and Rowe. In five laps Sanborn was under Rowe looking for the lead; the veteran wasn’t pressing too hard, and Sanborn rode in second and waited for his opportunity. With fifty to go it was Rowe, Sanborn, Fogleman, Shaw and Johnny Clark with Ben Rowe right behind and Travis Benjamin seventh.
Adam Ricker and Dave Oliver brought out caution number eight with a little dust up off turn one, setting up a side by side restart for Rowe and Sanborn. Shaw was now third with Jay Fogleman fourth and Johnny Clark fifth. Sanborn had the opportunity he waited so long for and he took advantage, taking over the lead from Rowe on lap 272. Ben Rowe was now by Johnny Clark for third.
With 20 to go Sanborn was opening up a slight advantage on Rowe. The pair worked lap traffic and the tables were turned with Rowe now looking for his shot at Sanborn. It wasn’t necessary, as the 29 slowed with 10 to go, coasting into the pits with an expired motor. For the second straight year Sanborn’s bid for the PASS 300 victory fell short. Rowe was back out front and Shaw had the bit in his teeth, hoping to catch the 24. He made it right to Rowes’ bumper with three to go, and had a fender under the leader when the furled white and checker were shown. The pair split around a lapped car as the checkers flew and Rowe beat Shaw across the line by .142 seconds.
Ben Rowe gained a few points on PASS North point leader Johnny Clark as the series heads for its’ 2009 series finale at North Woodstock New Hampshire’s White Mountain Motorsports Park on Friday September 18th. Racing goes green at 6:00 PM. Rowe also strengthened his lead in the PASS National Championship standings, where he has one win and Sunday’s third place run at the half-way point in the four race series.

JOSH ST. CLAIR TAKES ROUND TWO OF LINNEHAN CREDIT NOW AUTO COMPANY TRIPLE CROWN SERIES FOR LATE MODELS AT SPEEDWAY 95 SATURDAY NIGHT
Twenty eight late model drivers from coastal, central, and northern Maine took the green flag Saturday night at Speedway 95 for round two of the Linnehan’s Credit Now Auto Company Triple Crown Series for Late Models. Josh St. Clair of Liberty outlasted the field through a caution filled event to take the win. St. Clair had finished second in round 1 held at Wiscasset Raceway earlier in the season, so now has the edge for the crown going into the series finale to be held at Unity Raceway on October 11. The win wasn’t an easy one for St. Clair, as he had to regain the lead eight times over the course of the 54 lap event for caution periods that kept the field bunched up for most of the distance. Each time the green fell, St. Clair retook the lead, but the competition stayed close behind and threatened him all the way. Pole sitter Mike Hopkins of Hermon stayed the closest and finished the event in second, about two car lengths behind the winner. Wiscasset regular Chris Thorne of Sidney also ran near the front for the entire distance, finishing a strong third. Chris Pangburn of Easton ran a solid race, picking up a fourth place finish, with Winterport’s Ryan Deane, who recently converted his car from a Pro Stock to a Late Model, finishing fifth. St. Clair took home $1754 for his efforts, in a race that was run as a memorial to Bob Coburn of Winn, Maine, a former Pro Stock driver at Speedway 95 who passed away in June. His friends and family added an extra $1054 to the winner’s purse, and asked that the race be run for 54 laps, 54 being the number of the car Coburn raced at the speedway. Hopkins, St. Clair and Brenton Parritt of Steuben were winners of the three 15 lap qualifiers used to set the field for the feature. The event was also the final points race for the Speedway 95 regulars, and John Phippen Jr. of Bar Harbor came out as the points champion for the season in the Late Models at Speedway 95.
The points race for the Super Streets went down to the wire Saturday night as Hermon’s Kris Watson and Holden’s Steve Moulton started the night separated by only two points. When the night was over, Watson won the feature event and the point’s title, with Moulton finishing second in both races. Watson’s Camaro was hooked up this week-end as he took a win at Unity Raceway on Friday night, then backed it up with his win at 95 on Saturday. Moulton did all he could to beat Watson, but never got close enough to mount a serious challenge in the feature. After one false start, the race went caution free, with Watson taking the lead on lap one and holding it to the end. Moulton finished second with Lindsey Young of Winterport getting the third place trophy after Artie McGuire of Bucksport was disqualified in post race inspection. Derek Mingo of Lamoine then finished fourth with Hermon’s Doug Sinclair in fifth. Watson also won the 10 lap qualifier earlier in the evening bringing his total margin for the season to 6 points over Moulton for the championship.
Travis Poulin of Holden picked up his first win of the season in the Strictly Streets as he held off three time winner Doug Day of Glenburn for most of the race. Day could get as close as Poulin’s rear bumper, but was unable to make the pass for the lead, which he tried several times to do. Day finished second, with Shawn Hamel of Bangor in third. Fourth went to Shawn Hamel II of Bangor and Ellsworth’s Bradley Norris finished fifth. Norris had garnered enough points over the season to become the point’s champion without even starting the night’s event. Doug Day was the winner of the night’s qualifier.
Brent Fletcher of Old Town picked up his third win of the season in the Sport-Fours Saturday night in a car borrowed from David Green of Hampden, a fellow driver in the division. Fletcher had blown the engine in his own car during practice earlier in the evening and Green, who had the season’s points title locked up going in to the night’s program, loaned his car to Fletcher so Fletcher could hold his second place standings for the season. As Fletcher’s car sat idle in the pit area, the night’s second place finisher, Ralph Allen of Hermon, borrowed a brake rotor from it so he could compete in the night’s racing, and third place finisher Jeff Overlock Jr. of Hermon borrowed a distributor and wire set from Fletcher’s broken motor to get his car running for the feature event. Fourth went to Lewis Batchelder of Dixmont, without any parts borrowed from Fletcher’s car, and Rick Grant of LaGrange, who had won the qualifier earlier in the evening, finishing fifth.
The Little Enduros were back for another Saturday night of racing in a special 2 race series to finish out the 2009 season. Jason Trundy of Old Town passed race leader Donny Blanchard of Orrington on lap 15 of the 20 lap feature and won his second feature in a row since the division moved to Saturday nights. Trundy started near the back of the field because of his win the previous week, and quickly worked his way through the pack to challenge for the lead. Blanchard’s car began having engine troubles near the half way point, which slowed his car enough to allow Trundy to catch and pass him for the win. Blanchard held on for a second place finish, followed by Newburgh’s Darren Durrell in third. Travis Beale of Hampden finished in fourth with Bucksport’s Mike Ogden finishing in fifth. Blanchard and Adam Russell of Medford won the qualifiers for the main event.

Scott Modery of Hermon prevailed in a wild Late Model feature race topping the card at Unity Raceway Friday night. Modery took the lead away from Winterport’s Joey Doyon, then survived several restarts, mostly up against eventual runner-up Ajay Picard of Palmyra.. Dylan Turner of Freedom bounced back from early troubles to claim the third-place trophy. Point leader Frank Moulton of Burnham was fourth under the checkered flag, followed by Chris Doucette of Casco.
Donnie York of Thorndike had been oh so close to winning a Super Street division main event all season long, especially on the previous week’s racing card when he lost the lead to Holden’s Steve Moulton just a few feet from the checkered flag. Friday night York held off a fast-closing Moulton to earn that trip to victory lane. Moulton was the runner-up in the 25-lapper, held over from a partially rained our racing program earlier in the season. Point leader Kris Watson of Hermon was third across the line, followed by John Kalel II of Orrington and Steve Rackliff of Starks.
Watson romped to an easy victory in the regularly-scheduled Super Street feature. Moulton was again the runner-up, with York following his victory up with a third-place run. Ed ‘Fubby’ Drake of Vassalboro and Brian Fortin of China rounded out the top five.
Andy Turbovsky of Winslow outgunned point leader Carl McAlpine of Burnham on a 32nd-lap restart and held on to the top spot for the rest of the special, 50-lap Wildcat division feature race. McAlpine helped his championship quest with a runner-up finish, with third-place hardware earned by reigning division champion Dustin Hubbard of Unity. Luke Rickards of Anson and Brent Chase of Burnham were fourth and fifth in the finishing order.
Steve Rackliff of Starks powered past early race leader Bryan Lancaster of Skowhegan and drove to victory lane following the Late Model Pro Four feature race. Corey Walker of Augusta chased Rackliff in the closing laps but had to settle for runner-up honors. Greg Cummings of China finished third, with Lancaster hanging on for a fourth-place finish in front of Oakland’s Reggie Bickford.
Bob Grady of Pittston led wire-to-wire to score his second win of the season in the Monsta Mini class. Behind him, top-five positions were changing on every lap and as the checkered flag flew Dylan Lancaster of Skowhegan was the best of the rest, with Kyle Gallant of Veazie finishing in third position.Rick Grant of LaGrange and Zach Audet of New Sharon rounded out the top five.
Mike Mason of Skowhegan held on to win the Flyin’ 4 division feature over a fast-closing Pete McCollett of Readfield. Chris Williams of Oakland, in his most impressive run of the season, claimed the third-place trophy. Thomas True of Wiscasset finished fourth in his first Unity Raceway appearance of the season, with the top-five filled out by Winterport’s Chelsea Young.
Molly Feeney of Hope added to her division-leading total of victories in the Ladies division main event. Winterport’s Chelsea Young was closing in on Feeney, but ran out of time and had to settle for second at the finish line. Point leader Shelby Kimball of Cornville was third under the checkered flag, with the top-five rundown completed by Becky Elston of Carmel and Kayla Allen of Bucksport.
Bradley Bosworth of Cornville led from flag-to-flag to earn top honors in the Teen Thunder division. Daymon Dodge of Troy claimed runner-up honors, with third-place laurels earned by 2009 division champion Brooke Getchell of Pittsfield. Jayson Bosworth of Cornville finished in fourth position, followed by Kayla Chesley of Skowhegan.
Nicholas Landry of Anson outran Chris Burbelo of Frankfort and Jason Dow to win the Enduro race. Alex Fernald led several laps in that race before mechanical difficulties sideline his ride.
