Zach Audet of Skowhegan led only two laps of the 25 lap Little Enduro feature at Speedway 95’s Wacky Wednesday night racing, but they were the last two, as he passed race long leader Ken Getchell of Newburgh on the 23rd lap to seal the win. Getchell fell to third in the final two laps as Hampden’s Travis Beal also slid by to place second. While the top three were battling up front, a few car lengths behind, pole sitter Garret Hayman of Milford held off a determined Andrew Crosby of Hermon for the fourth spot, with Crosby settling for fifth after a race long battle with Hayman for fourth. 22 cars started the 25 lap race, the first in a series of 3 extra lap races to be held throughout out the Wednesday night season. The race was stopped only once, on the first lap, for an accident that eliminated Bangor’s Gene Trojano II and Michael Blais of Hampden. (more…)

STEVE HEATH TAKES SPORT-FOUR SERIES EVENT
Mike Hopkins makes it 3 for 3 in Late Models
Steve Heath of Milo outlasted a determined but disappointed Bradley Norris of Ellsworth to take the win in Saturday night’s Varney Agency Sport-Four Series event number one. Heath started on the pole by virtue of winning the qualifying heat and swapped the lead with Norris several times as the duo raced side by side for the first 16 laps. Heath took the lead for good on lap 17 as the pair went inside and outside while overlapping a slower car. In his haste to catch back up, Norris spun his car out of second place in turn four of the 28th lap, and ended up third after 2010 champion Keith Ogden of Holden slipped by into second as Norris recovered from the spin. Fourth went to Mike Heath of Brownville with last week’s winner Jay Robichaud of Eddington finishing in fifth. The remaining order of finish was 6. Becky Elston, Carmel,7. Ralph Allen, Hermon, 8. Joshua Grant, Carmel,9. James Johnson II, Bucksport,10. Ryan Kennedy, Holden,11. Roy Hathorn, Brownville 12. Bradley Dolan, Winterport.

Andrew Mclaughlin of Harrington made it two in a row Saturday night at Speedway 95 as he wired the Strictly Street Coca-Cola Series race #1 at the 1/3 mile Hermon oval. McLaughlin won the qualifier for the event which put him on the pole for the feature, and he just kept on leading from there. Roger Smith Jr. of Clifton finished the race in second, after Cody Brassbridge of Frankfort pulled off the track on lap 20 and parked his Camaro with mechanical trouble. Shelby Kimball of Cornville placed third with the father son duo of Shawn Hamel II and Shawn Hamel of Bangor finishing fourth and fifth respectively.
Dysart’s Late Model action also saw a repeat winner as Mike Hopkins of Hermon took control of the 35 lap feature early on in the event and went on to post his second win of the season. While Hopkins and second place finisher Dale Swoboda of Hermon played follow the leader up front, Ryan Deane of Winterport was putting on a show, working his way up from his eighth place starting spot to a solid third place finish. Deane used the inside groove to pass eventual fourth place finisher Brenton Parritt of Steuben and Dave St. Clair of Liberty who finished fifth. Deane held the third spot from lap 28, while Parritt and St. Clair battled for their finishing positions, which weren’t decided until lap 33 of the 35 lap race. Hopkins and Swoboda were both winners of the qualifying events, placing them on the front row for the feature. (more…)

MIKE HOPKINS WINS 95 LATE MODEL OPENER
Mike Hopkins of Hermon started the 50 lap Late Model feature on the pole and led 48 of the 50 laps to post a convincing win on Speedway 95’s season opening show Saturday night. Hopkins maintained his lead through 4 of the 5 caution flags, giving up only 2 laps to Andy Saunders of Ellsworth, who took the lead on laps 41 and 42 and finished a strong second. Josh St. Clair of Liberty finished in third, after coming from the back of the pack twice due to pit stops he took during caution periods. Ryan Deane of Winterport was the fourth place finisher, followed by 2010 Late Model Champion Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs in fifth. Rounding out the top 10 were John Kalel II of Orrington, Shane Clark of Winterport, Donny Blanchard of Bangor, Alex Waltz of Damariscotta and Greg Ellis of Hermon.
Sportsman division action saw Jeremy Glazier of Appleton take the win following a tight battle with Holden’s Steve Moulton, who finished second. Glazier and Moulton raced the first 7 laps side by side until Glazier slid high, forcing Moulton to lift and allowing Glazier to take the lead. The two were again together following a lap 13 caution, but Glazier was able to take the lead that time and hold it to the end. Moulton finished second, followed by Mike Overlock of Franklin, Gene Wasson of Greenbush and Doug Sinclair of Hermon.
