Busch Sport Scene Publisher to have Book Launch at Hilton Garden Inn
Busch Sport Scene publisher George Campbell will debut his new book, Busch North Scene: A Ten Year Retrospective, at a book launch party being held at the Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn on November 20, 2010.
Campbell covered auto racing for a variety of national and regional publications in the 1990’s. In 1999 he started his own news print publication, Busch North Scene. His goal was to cover NASCAR in the northeast region of the country with the newspaper. Within two years, George and the staff members had grown the paper into the number one selling NASCAR newspaper on news stands through out much of New England. (more…)

Bond/WIX Tiger Tour Announces 2011 Schedule
Waterbury, VT – American Canadian Tour (ACT) officials announced the 2011 Bond/WIX Tiger Sportsmen Tour schedule featuring three 100-lap events at three different venues.
The Limited Late Model division, which has been competing at Thunder Road in Barre, VT since 1964, will begin their season on their home track as part of a 100-lap double header during the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic on Sunday, May 29.

Phil Bessette and Kyle Smith are East Coast Mini Sprint Association Champs

WESTFIELD, MA – Phil Bessette and Kyle Smith were crowned as the 2010 points champions of the East Coast Mini Sprint Association at the club’s 18th annual awards banquet, which was held at the Westwood Pub and Restaurant. The club sanctions the 750cc Mini Sprint races at Whip City Speedway.

Bill Balser To Receive NEAR 2011 Jack Ratta Memorial Media Award
Pioneering New England auto racing photographer Bill Balser has been selected as the recipient of the New England Antique Racers 2011 Jack Ratta Memorial Award.
Balser will accept the award at the 14th annual New England Auto Racing Hall of Fame Induction Banquet on Sunday, Jan. 30 at LaRenaissance Banquet Hall in East Windsor, CT. Ticket forms and further information will be on the NEAR website (www.near1.com) in the near future.

East Coast Snocross names Fred Mang as Race Director
CHESHIRE, Conn. (Nov. 12, 2010) – Officials from East Coast Snocross (ECS) have named veteran race organizer and motocross track owner Fred Mang as Race Director for their inaugural 2010-2011 racing season.
Mang, 45, brings a great deal of experience to the table. Along with his devoted wife Linda, Mang owns and operates the Twister Valley Sports Complex in Fort Plain, New York.
Motocross and ATV racers across the Empire State and beyond know Twister Valley as one of the nicest, most well-run tracks in the northeast.
Mang is a lifelong snowmobiler with a deep passion for the sport. He fondly recalls riding on the back with his parents at the tender age of five, and has loved sleds since his first ride in the mid 1970s. While this may be his debut in snocross, he knows how a race weekend should flow.
“I am excited about the opportunity to be part of the inaugural season for East Coast Snocross,” said Mang. “Just as it is in motocross, I think staying on schedule and working to keep a smooth flow to each race day is paramount in snocross. My experience should benefit both racers and fans when it comes to making sure our shows are run in a timely fashion.”
As a race promoter himself, Mang knows the current economy has affected the way tracks and sanctioning bodies do business. The model has changed, yet everyone seems to have adapted.
“I think racers are dedicated to their sport no matter the circumstances. I know when they all see how ECS is working to improve their sport, they’ll turn out each week. And when fans realize we have an excellent show, offering exciting entertainment in a reasonable time frame, we’ll have a successful package. I plan to draw on the strengths of other ECS employees while also earning their respect. Ill keep a watchful eye on every race and look forward to getting started.”
“We are excited to have a man with so much experience and knowledge join our staff,” said Bob Roscoe, president of East Coast Snocross. “Fred knows how races should flow and is the right person for our needs. He understands our goals for snocross, and his skills will help us reach them. We look forward to working with him this winter, and hope our racers do, as well.”
Mang raced ATVs and motocross from 1990 to 1995, and has been an AMA ATV official since 1992. Mang served as president of the Central New York State Motocross Riders Association (CNYMRA) from 1995 through 2005. He and his wife Linda have operated Twister Valley since 2004.
With just one month until the season opener, Mang and others behind the scenes at ECS are at full throttle. Trailers are being stocked with supplies needed on-site; Bob Pawlowski is busy preparing his groomer to build a fabulous track for Round 1; Jennifer Carrier is processing memberships and event registrations, while others try to excite the media about a new season.
Mang and the entire staff at ECS will converge on the quaint northern Vermont village of East Burke in a matter of weeks. Shortly after, race teams from around New York and New England will descend upon beautiful Burke Mountain to kick off the new season. Those who attend will witness the beginning of an exciting new era in northeastern regional snocross.
