Lambert Takes Big Win at Heritage 100 at Thunder Road

Barre, VT – Northfield’s John Lambert claimed the upset victory in the Bond Auto Tiger Heritage 100-lap special on Sunday, July 29 at Barre’s Thunder Road. Lambert was chased by late-charger Mike Martin and front-runner Scott Coburn who finished second and third respectively.

Side by side racing dominated the first 20 laps of the event, before Coburn finally broke free of the pack to claim the lead. Coburn earned a large advantage over the 29 car field before hitting heavy lap traffic. Lambert capitalized, slicing through the lapped cars and stripping Coburn of the lead on lap 53. Lambert then broke away from Coburn, who had his hands full with ten laps to go with Bond Auto Tiger stars Mike Martin, Brendan Moodie Jr., and former champion Shawn Fleury. Martin dove for a gutsy three-wide maneuver in the closing laps to steal second, but Coburn successfully held off others to come home third. Fleury picked up fourth, and Moodie settled for fifth. Eric Badore, Kyle Pembroke, Jason Corliss, Mike Ziter, and point-leader Jason Allen rounded out the top ten.

Ted Christopher Wins Valenti Modified Racing Series Action; Career First Win For Steve Violette

Ted Christopher earned his 97th career victory at Thompson International Speedway when he scored the checkers in the 75-lap Valenti Modified Racing Series event. NASCAR Whelen All-American Series wins were captured by Ryan Preece in the Sunoco Modifieds, John Falconi in the Late Models, Cam McDermott in the Lite Modifieds, John Lowinski-Loh in the Thompson Modifieds, Scott Sundeen in the Limited Sportsman, and Steve Violette in the Mini-Stocks.

Ted Christopher survived a caution-filled 75-lap Valenti Modified Racing Series event to take the victory behind the wheel of the No. 00 Joe Brady-owned machine. It was his second win of the season in the division. Christopher came from deep in the field to earn the win. Christopher inherited the lead after Rowan Pennink was black flagged for a leak.

“I was behind him and I could never get throttle up and off and than I saw him spraying the water,” said Christopher about Pennink.

THE STORY
Brian Hoar of Williston, Vt., begins the stretch drive toward a ninth career ACT Late Model Tour championship in the ACT 150 at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, on Saturday, July 28. After more than a month off from ACT competition, the Top-4 drivers in the standings begin the final five-race stretch toward the season’s conclusion separated by just 42 points. Hoar has always had an affinity for the flat Beech Ridge Motor Speedway – having returned to ACT Victory Lane at the track in 2009 following an eight-year hiatus from the series to concentrate on what is now the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East. He is one of only three drivers to have won at Beech Ridge since ACT’s return to the track in 2009.

VALENTI MODIFIED RACING SERIES TOPS THURSDAY THOMPSON LINEUP

ThompsonThe Valenti Modified Racing Series returns to the Thompson International Speedway this week for Thursday Night Thompson Thunder racing action. The popular VMRS will be making its second appearance of the year at Thompson.

Current VMRS points leader, Rowan Pennink, will be looking to repeat his winning performance of May 20th. Pennink’s May victory was not an easy one as he fought tooth and nail with Ted Christopher for the top spot until Christopher’s mount developed mechanical problems. Pennink was able to hold off late-race challenges from Richard Savary and Geoff Gernhard before he could claim the victory. The going won’t be any easier this week as the eventual winner of the 75-lap main event will have to hold off efforts of many of northeast’s best drivers.
