ON THE ROAD: Lanpher Strong At New Hampshire

14-Year-Old Posts Pair Of Top-5 Finishes On Road Course

LOUDON, N.H. – Reid Lanpher of Manchester, Maine, won a pole position and posted two Top-5 finishes in two Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour starts on the New Hampshire Motor Speedway road course this weekend, October 6-7.

Lanpher, whose first career NELCAR victory came on the very same 1.6-mile circuit back in May, won the pole and finished fifth on Saturday over a wet track and followed that effort by starting shotgun on the 16-car field Sunday afternoon and finishing fourth without the benefit of a caution flag to make up track position.

Reid Lanpher Becoming A ‘Legend’ 14-year-old The Youngest Winner In NHMS History

NHMS New Hampshire Motor Speedway

MANCHESTER, Maine – Reid Lanpher admits he just wanted a good finish on the road course at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, an oddity on the NELCAR Legends Tour with its high-speed test of right- and left-hand turns.
The 14-year-old Manchester, Maine, driver ended up making history – winning the second road course event of the season at New Hampshire back in May, becoming both the youngest winner in NELCAR history and the youngest race winner ever at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in the process.
“To win at New Hampshire Motor Speedway was a pretty big deal. It was really cool,” Lanpher said. “There was over a 24-car field that day, and some of the guys on that Tour have been doing this for 15 years. To run with those guys – let alone win – was a pretty big deal for me.
“I went into that race willing to settle for Top-5. About halfway through, I was like, ‘Wow. I can win this.’ I wasn’t expecting it at all.”
It was only the beginning of a year that has seen Lanpher post a pair of victories, seven Top-5 finishes and nine Top-10s in the No. 59 EJP/Mission Trailers Chevrolet. He’s won at Unity Raceway and is within shouting distance of 10th in the overall NELCAR standings – despite being sidelined for all 10 races at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway due to the track’s minimum age requirement for competition. Reid Lanpher wins in NELCAR at NHMS

Manchester, Maine – Four days after celebrating his 14th birthday, Reid Lanpher found himself celebrating again. This time it was in Victory Lane at NHMS after winning the NELCAR event on the road course. Lanpher qualified 6th in the 24 car field and was running 4th with 4 to go when a caution allowed the field to bunch up. After pushing defending series champion Evan Beaulieu to the lead. Lanpher was able to draft and slingshot by Beaulieu on the front stretch. They made slight contact as neither wanted to lift first as they shot into turn one. Lanpher made the move stick and lead back to the stripe only to have another yellow flag shown and line up for another restart.

Beaulieu was put back to the point and as the flag man indicated one to go, Lanpher could be seen tapping on his roof and gesturing NHMS Legend king Shaun Buffington to give him a push on the re-start. It was not needed as Lanpher again lifted late entering turn one and made it stick once again. This time is was for good despite a very hard charge by Beaulieu that got him to Lanphers bumper as the checkers waived. Lanpher is racing under the guidance of 4-time NELCAR champion Bob Weymouth who raced home to a 7th place finish.
