BRADFORD, VT – The annual Bond Auto Parts 4th of July spectacular with Modified Madness provided the packed house with over 200 laps of racing excitement Saturday night June 28, 2014. The DIRTcar Bond Auto Parts racing over 100 laps for their biggest purse of the season of over $9,000.00.
The drivers brought in over 200 sponsored laps for their double points madness night in the DIRTcar Bond Auto Sportsman Modifieds. Starting the first segment on the pole with his most laps collected status was Jason Gray, with Chris Donnelly Orford NH alongside. When the checkers waved on segment one Donnelly was the winner with Gray in second. From the first segment 21 of the 25 cars would be inverted for the second segment line up with the additional three completing the field. Tim Hodge being the unlucky finisher in segment one was able to capitalize on his then pole position in segment two and capture a huge chuck of the lap money for the segment and come home the winner. Segment three was Gary Siemons and Ryan Christian Canaan NH to set the pace on the field. Siemons led a majority of segment three until late in the event when Christian was able to capitalize on a bobble by Siemons and take over the lead. Christian in only his sixth outing in the mighty mods was able to survive two restarts to claim the final segment win. When the final results were tallied Chris Donnelly was declared the overall winner with Derek Barker in second and Adam Pierson in third. Rounding out the top five were Mike Gendron and Kevin Chaffee.

Scarborough, Stone Split Wins on Wild Night at Devil’s Bowl
Gordon, Bradford, MacMichael repeat; Watrous a first-time winner
WEST HAVEN, VT – An action-packed night of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series stock car racing at Devil’s Bowl Speedway was capped by an unpredictable finale and two first-time feature winners. Johnny Scarborough and Todd Stone split victories in the top-tier Modifieds as Chuck Bradford and Kyle Watrous each won Mini Stock features, and Robert Gordon and Scott MacMichael repeated in the Renegade and SK Light classes, respectively.
Johnny “The Jet” Scarborough of nearby Bomoseen, VT was a convincing winner in the first of two 25-lap feature races for the Bond Auto Parts Modified division. Scarborough took the lead from rookie Jason Reome on the sixth lap and sailed to the victory in a caution-free race. It was Scarborough’s first win at the track since June 20, 1999 and his first in the NASCAR-sanctioned asphalt era. Veteran Leon Gonyo of Chazy, NY finished second with young gun Jason Durgan of Morrisonville, NY third. Joey Roberts and Vince Quenneville, Jr., completed the top five runners.

Scott Dragon Returns to Victory Lane on American Racer Night
Barre, VT – Scott Dragon of Colchester returned to Thunder Road victory lane during the American Racer event on Thursday, June 26. Dragon piloted his Richard Green ride to an uncontested win as the 50 lap Late Model event went wire-to-wire caution free. It was Dragon’s second career Thunder Road Late Model win with his last coming in May of 2003.
Dragon rocketed to the point from the outside pole and was followed by Jason Allen. The duo built a large lead over the remainder of the field as Ricky Roberts and rookie Josh Demers battled side-by-side for several laps. Roberts finally got the advantage late in the event and broke away for third. Joey Laquerre and Emily Packard followed to complete the top five. Demers slipped to sixth followed by Nick Sweet, Cody Blake, Derrick O’Donnell and John Donahue rounding out the top ten.

Modified and Mini Stock classes to double up on Friday, June 27
WEST HAVEN, VT – Race fans will see double as the on Friday, June 27 at Rutland County’s Devil’s Bowl Speedway. Both the Bond Auto Parts Modified and Central Vermont Motorcycles Mini Stock divisions of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series will run twin feature races at the event, in addition to racing for the Renegade and SK Light classes. A Kids Bicycle Race event is also on tap, open to children of all ages.
The headline Bond Auto Parts Modified class has been very competitive in 2014. Defending champion Todd Stone of Middlebury, VT has not yet found the dominance he showed last summer, recording just a single victory through the first five races of the season. He holds a slim 13-point lead on New York veteran Leon Gonyo, with opening day winner Joey Roberts just two more points back. (more…)
