Cris Michaud Rebounds on Fairpoint Night at the Road

Barre, VT – East Montpelier’s Cris Michaud rebounded from a rough start to the 2011 season with his 17th career Late Model feature win at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT on Thursday, June 30. The three-time “King of the Road” started on the pole and held off sophomore driver Cody Blake and veterans Jamie Aube and Jamie Fisher on several restarts to earn the win. Fisher would settle for second and Blake completed the podium. Matt White and Aube rounded out the top five.

Michaud, Corliss post feature wins at Thunder Road

BARRE, Vermont — Veteran short track drivers Cris Michaud and Jason Corliss posted feature wins in their respective divisions

Thursday evening, as Fairpoint Communications presented a full card of racing at the famed Thunder Road International Speedbowl.

Michaud, of East Montpelier, VT, took the lead from Cody Blake on lap two and survived four restarts to claim the 50-lap Late

Model feature. Jamie Fisher gave Michaud a run for his money in the closing laps but settled for second, while Blake hung on for

third. Blake, son of former Thunder Road regular Greg Blake, earned his first Late Model podium finish after claiming Rookie-

of-the-Year honors in 2010. Matt White and former NASCAR champion Jamie Aube completed the top five. (more…)

BARRE, Vt. – Brian Hoar of Williston, Vt., finished sixth in the Carquest VT Governor’s Cup 100 at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt., on Sunday, June 26. Hoar, who was driving the No. 6 Merchants Bank Ford for Thunder Road regular Cris Michaud, started deep in the field and used some late-race confusion on the part of some competitors to inch closer to the front at the finish. Hoar got the call to drive after the non-ACT Late Model Tour race was originally rained out on Thursday, June 23, leaving Michaud unable to compete due to a family conflict.

Donahue Steals CARQUEST VT Governor’s Cup Win

Barre, VT – Graniteville’s John Donahue stole the CARQUEST Vermont Governor’s Cup 100 win with a heads-up move at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT on Sunday, June 26. Donahue was running second to defending “King of the Road” and VT Governor’s Cup Champion Nick Sweet when three cars spun in turn four near the back of the pack spun on the 84th circuit.

By the time Sweet and Donahue reached turn three, all three cars were making their way back onto the track. Sweet lifted expecting a caution, but Donahue never lifted and took the lead when no caution was thrown. Donahue took the lead and never looked back, while Sweet had to settle for second.

CARQUEST VT Gov. Cup at Thunder Road Postponed

Barre, VT – Thunder Road International Speedbowl officials have announced that the CARQUEST Vermont Governor’s Cup program scheduled for Thursday, June 23 has been postponed due to rain. The ¼ mile oval in Barre, VT has rescheduled the event for this Sunday, June 26.

Graniteville’s John Donahue will lead the Late Models into the 100 lap event. With a win in the Memorial Day Classic and no finishes outside the top ten yet this season he sits atop the standings. He will have to battle with Chip Grenier, Phil Scott, Dave Pembroke, Mike Bruno and Jimmy Hebert who are all in the top five. Also past VT Governor’s Cup Champions Nick Sweet, Cris Michaud and Jamie Aube will be in attendance.
