Walpole, NH- For two Granite State Pro Stock (GSPSS) drivers, a win at the inaugural NH Classic at Star Speedway would be redemption at Star Speedway.
Joey Squeglia, JR has been fast at each race he’s attended all year, including races at Monadnock Speedway, Lee USA Speedway, and Star Speedway. The Derry, NH driver started on the pole for the August 16th race at his home track, Star Speedway in Epping, NH, and led early in the race, but had to fight his way back through the field after a trip down pit road with a flat right rear tire, finishing 7th. To win the NH Classic at his home track, where he was a champion in the Outlaw division a year ago, would be a step in the right direction, according to the pilot of the Auto Mart Trucks + Cars/PH Electric/George Cairns + Sons Chevrolet. “We would like nothing more than to win on Star Classic night!” says Squeglia. “Luck has not been on our side at our home track, but we are going to try and turn that around this weekend. We need a well handling car and to be patient, with some luck sprinkled on top.”

Geary, New Brunswick – Joey Doiron and the 73 Wild Willy’s Burgers/JBJ Machine team traveled back to Canada this past weekend to Geary, New Brunswick for one of the biggest short track races in the north, the Re/Max 250 at Speedway 660. 32 Super Late Models were on hand to try their hand at the $15,000 prize including lap money to be earned during the event. The event didn’t go quite as planned however, as rain began to fall just before the start of the race on Sunday night, and was pushed back to early Monday morning. After a hard fought drive at the end, Joey Doiron ended the race just off the podium in fourth place.
“We were really loose at the beginning of the race, we made a charge up there but I don’t think we would’ve stayed on the lead lap if we didn’t pit early,” Doiron said of the race, “It was our only shot to win and I think we would’ve had something for them if we had equal tires there at the end, all in all though it was a great run for us, I’m proud of everyone’s effort and we’ll get geared up for Chaudiere next weekend.”

Mueller Tops Northern Modified Challenge Battle Entering Rescheduled Airborne Race
Quenneville, Gonyo tied in second only four points back; race postponed to Sunday
For Immediate Release NMCS-090514-1
SOUTH PLATTSBUGH, NY – Jessey Mueller is the leader of the Northern Modified Challenge Series championship chase, but not by much. The 19 year-old from Olmstedville, NY holds a slim four-point lead entering Sunday’s 50-lap contest at Airborne Park Speedway; veteran drivers Vince Quenneville, Jr. and Leon Gonyo sit tied in second place right behind the youngster.
The event, which includes a 100-lap race for the Valenti Modified Racing Series, has been postponed by one day to Sunday, September 7 at 1:00 p.m., due to unfavorable forecasts on Saturday.
With half of the eight-race Northern Modified Challenge Series schedule complete, Mueller owns victories at Thunder Road Int’l Speedbowl in May and Devil’s Bowl Speedway in August. It’s his closest challengers, though, who can lay claim to wins at Airborne, as Gonyo and Quenneville split twin 30-lap features at the track in July.
Plattsburgh-area drivers Jason Durgan, Jamie LaFountain, and Airborne point leader Nick Heywood remain in the mix, sitting in positions 4-6 overall. That trio has seen a busy – and successful – summer of weekly competition at both Devil’s Bowl and Airborne, combining for 10 victories and 47 top-five finishes across 89 total feature starts. Durgan scored a runner-up effort in the NMCS event at Thunder Road, while LaFountain and Heywood also have top-five finishes with the series this year.
Sunday’s 50-lap Northern Modified Challenge Series race at Airborne Park Speedway is part of a blockbuster open-wheel showdown that features the Valenti Modified Racing Series, and championship finales for the weekly NASCAR Whelen All-American Series-sanctioned J&S Steel Sportsman Modified, Ground Round Late Model, Key-RD Trailer Sales Renegade, and Busch Beer Mini-Modified divisions.

Barre, VT – Derrick O’Donnell of North Haverhill, NH claimed his second straight Thunder Late Model “King of the Road” title at the conclusion of the 36th annual Coca-Cola Labor Day Classic 200 at Thunder Road on Monday, September 1. Second place point man Nick Sweet of Barre did all he could to snatch the title away from O’Donnell by claiming his second career Labor Day Classic victory, but O’Donnell’s seventh consecutive podium finish in second was enough to earn him the title.
The event originally scheduled for Sunday, August 31 was pushed back to Labor Day Monday due to rain. When the feature event finally went green, the defending track champion and point leader took the green flag 18th on the 32 car field, while Sweet started 14th and trailed in the standings by 16 points.
