By Lisa Maguire
The Texas Roadhouse North East Mini Stock Tour, which was presented by Twisted Tea, made its one and only appearance in Maine at the Wiscasset Speedway on Saturday. Last year driver Toby Wells brought home the win. Wells was point leader coming into the race. However, there was only a twelve point difference between Wells and two-time champ, Emerson Cayer. Maine native, Justin Larsen, was third in points coming into the race, trailing the leader by 138 points, but still in the chase. Prior to race time Wells said, “It is a pretty tight battle. It ain’t decided yet between the three of us.”
Also at Wiscasset this weekend were the group one division of racing presented by NAPA Auto Parts, including: NAPA Super Street, Outlaw Mini, Prostock, and New England Four Cylinder Prostock. The fans packed the bleachers to see the show, and also were able to visit the NAPA tent, enjoy BBQ, and get information from the “Napa Know-How Man.”

Tim Brackett best in 50-lap finale on Saturday night at Oxford Plains Speedway
Oxford, Maine — Tim Brackett of Buckfield topped the card of winners in Oxford Championship Series competition Saturday night at Oxford Plains Speedway. Brackett scored his victory in the 50-lap main event for Budweiser Pro Late Models, wheeling his NAPA Auto Parts-sponsored car into victory lane on Dave’s Small Engines / Walker Mowers Night.
Brackett’s win snapped a two-race win streak posted by his son, TJ Brackett. The elder Brackett, a former champion in the top class at OPS, worked his way into contention and took the lead away from Quinny Welch of Lancaster, New Hampshire late in the headline event on the card. Welch managed to outrun the balance of the field to the checkered flag to post a well-earned second-place finish.

SOMMERVILLE HUMBLED TO RUN FRASER REPLICA CAR IN 250 AT SPEEDWAY 660
BARNESVILLE, NB (August 22, 2014) – Lonnie Sommerville has mixed emotions heading into Speed Weekend at Speedway 660. On the one hand he is excited to have the chance to win his third ‘250’, but on the other hand he is humbled to be carrying the colours of his good friend, the late Scott Fraser.
“The idea came to me in the spring,” said Sommerville, who won the 250 at Speedway 660 in 2006 and 2009. “Not too long after the 10th anniversary of Scott’s death. As friends we will always remember the date, but I was especially struck by how much the racing community, in general, reacted to it this year. So I approached the Fraser family way back then and asked if I could honour Scott by carrying his familiar colours in this race, and at a place that he dominated back in the day.”

POLEWARCZYK, MACDONALD, WELCH FIRST TO ENTER INVITATIONAL
Waterbury, VT – Two former winners and a new young gun were the first to accept invitations to the 6th Annual Bond Auto ACT Invitational to be held at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS) on Saturday, September 20, 2014. Invitations were first sent to those who qualified throughout the season by winning either an ACT US event or Série ACT event in Quebec.
In 2010, Joey Polewarczyk, Jr (Pole), Hudson, New Hampshire, charged from the 27th starting position on the grid and ran away with an impressive win on the “Magic Mile”. “We had a great finish to the 2010 season. This Invitational win was the icing on the cake. I think we won five races that year and finished second to Brian (8-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar from Williston, VT) in the ACT title battle for the American Canadian Tour Championship (ACT). Winning in front of the huge crowd, in my home state, was about as good as it gets,” said Pole. Pole is currently leading the ACT Championship hunt with just two races remaining on the schedule.

2014 Ltd. Late Model Season at Stafford Speedway a Tale of Two Resurgences for Norm Sears
(Stafford Springs, CT)—After taking the 2012 and 2013 seasons off, former 3-time DARE Stock Champion Norm Sears returned to competition in the Limited Late Model division at Stafford Speedway this year. As the 2014 season has played out, the year has become a tale of two resurgences for Sears.
Sears raced in the Limited Late Model division from 2009-2011 after winning 3 consecutive DARE Stock track championships, and his 2014 season was on track to match or even better his best season of 2011 when he finished fourth in the points standings. But a wreck that left his car heavily damaged on July 25th threatened to bring his season to a premature halt. Enter the #36 Don’s Home Improvement team, which originally had DARE Stock graduate Kelsey Rottino as its driver. They offered Sears the seat in their car for the remainder of the 2014 season, and Sears’ championship aspirations were immediately put back on track.
