BRENTON PARRITT TAKES 95 LATE MODEL FEATURE

Speedway95For the second time in the four races run in the Dysart’s Late Models at Speedway 95 this season, the feature race was won by mere inches when Brenton Parritt of Steuben held off a late race charge from 2013 champion Andy Saunders of Ellsworth, who was driving a car borrowed from Orrington’s Jim Robichaud. Parritt started the 40 lap feature event in the 8th spot, took the lead from Corinth’s Lloyd Nickerson on lap 7, and led the rest of the way to the checkers. Meanwhile, Saunders and Ryan Deane of Winterport worked their way through the field and became locked in a lengthy battle for the second spot, which Saunders finally won on lap 35. Saunders then set his sights on Parritt, but ran out of laps as Parritt crossed the finish line with his bumper just ahead of Saunders when the checkered flag flew. Saunders finished second with Deane in third. Nick Jenkins of Milo finished fourth with Andrew McLaughlin of Harrington finishing in fifth after recovering from a lap 9 incident with Nickerson that sent both cars to the rear of the field on the restart. John Kalel II and Nickerson won the night’s Late Model qualifiers.

Mueller stays hot with Modified checkers; Gordon, LaVair score

WEST HAVEN, VT – Nick Sweet continued his dominance of Vermont State Late Model Championship Series racing at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday night, winning the People’s United Bank 100. The defending Vermont State Champion has now won in his last three visits to the Rutland County track. His victory headlined a list of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series winners on the night that also included Jessey Mueller, Robert Gordon, and Chris LaVair.
Sweet, of Barre, VT, made up for a bitter defeat just five days earlier in the Vermont State Championship opener at his hometown track, Thunder Road, by leading every lap of the People’s United Bank 100. Starting from the pole position by virtue of a field-high “+6” position gain in qualifying, Sweet stretched out to comfortable lead for much of the race. A pair of 17 year-olds in Brandon Atkins and Emily Packard didn’t let Sweet take the win easily, however.

FairPoint Kicks Off Thunder Road Thursday Nights

Kyle Pembroke (27VT), Jason Corliss (66VT) and Eric Badore (4VT) will be among the Thunder Road competitors on hand for the first Thursday night event on June 5. (Photo by Leif Tillotson)Barre, VT – A summer time of Thursday night action on the high banks of Barre’s Thunder Road is set to kick off with FairPoint Communications night. This Thursday, June 5, the “Nation’s Site of Excitement” opens its gates for its 55th season of stock car racing Thursday night action. The Late Models, Bond Auto Tiger Sportsmen and Allen Lumber Street Stocks will all be racing. While the first two events of the season were among the biggest and most prestigious held at Thunder Road, it’s the gritty Thursday night action each week where drivers win or lose titles.

Barre’s Jason Corliss sits atop the Late Model standings after his thrilling win in the Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic. The division will run its first 50-lap feature this Thursday for their second point-counting event. Unlike the 100-lap Memorial Day event, weekly 50-lap features are sprint races that require drivers to be aggressive each and every lap. Two-time “King of the Road” Nick Sweet will look to avenge his Memorial Day loss, while Cody Blake, Dave Pembroke and a host of others continue their title campaigns.

Waterford Speedbowl Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday 5/28 Results

Waterford, CT (May 28, 2014) – Waterford Speedbowl returned to action with
another round of Wild ‘n Wacky Wednesday racing. A first time winner
joined four returning faces to Victory Lane in an action packed night of
motorsports. Leading the way was Michael Blaskey, who his first-ever
checkered flag in the INEX Legend Cars division. Jon Porter won another
Super X-Car race, Zac Thomas was the winner of the X-Car race and Anthony
Marvin claimed the INEX Bandolero feature. Chuck McDonald was king of
the night’s Wacky Race for the X-Cars.

Blaskey put forth a memorable effort on track during the 25-lap INEX
Legend Cars feature to land what was a first-ever win. He took the lead
at the green flag and charged ahead. The race was slowed by five caution
flags and Blaskey hit his marks on each restart to maintain his lead.
Over the final two restarts, he was challenged by last year’s division
champion, Joey Ternullo. Blaskey proved to be too strong, going on to the
win over Ternullo. John O’Sullivan Jr. finished third.

Porter was back in Victory Lane for another Super X-Car win. He came on
strong over the middle of the 25-lapper, riding the outside lane over a
stretch of green flag racing that brought him past the front runners into
the lead. Porter took command from Shane Peele on lap-14 and never looked
back. He pulled ahead to the win over Kevin Moon, followed by early
leader Ray Reed, who finished third.

Thomas was declared the winner in the 25-lap X-Car race after finishing
second on the track. Thomas bested Randy Johnston, who finished runner-up
after leading two laps and racing among the lead cars all race. C.P.
Burdick finished a career-best third in the division.

Marvin was strong in the night’s 15-lap INEX Bandolero feature. He trailed
Jonathon Puleo early, but used the outside lane to give Puleo a run for
the lead. Marvin spent three laps finding the right combination to the
outside before pulling ahead. He slowly checked out through the checkered
flag in the non-stop race. Nickolas Hovey picked up his first runner-up
finish in just his second race in the division and Puleo finished third.

McDonald was crafty in the night’s Wacky Race for the X-Car division, a
Toll Booth race. He scored the most tokens in a race around the track
with a “stop” each lap to place a token in one of four collection bins
located on the front chute of the track.

Waterford Speedbowl hosts another edition of Sho & Go at the ‘Bowl on
Friday night featuring free grandstand admission, car cruise on the midway
and spectator drag racing with a special import night theme. On
Saturday, NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing returns for Four
Cylinder Fury, the track’s annual celebration of four cylinder racecars.
The track’s NASCAR Mini Stock division is in the spotlight, running in a
50-lap feature race. They will be joined by the visiting Northeast Mini
Stock Tour and Pro Four Modifieds of New England, the track’s Wild ‘n
Wacky Wednesday X-Car division, plus NASCAR SK Modifieds® and Valenti Auto
Mall Late Models. More information on each event is available online at
Speedbowl.com or by contacting the track office at 860.442.1585.

Speedbowl announces changes to personnel, penalties

Waterford, CT (May 29, 2014) – Waterford Speedbowl management announced
today the creation of a new position, penalties following Saturday, May
24th’s racing program, and the departure of one member of their staff.
The new position of Race Vehicle Safety Coordinator has been created. The
sole responsibility of the newly created position will be overseeing that
all cars participating in the Speedbowl’s track race divisions are
compliant with track mandated safety regulations. The position will be
filled on an interim basis by veteran Speedbowl competitor Bill Leonard.
Candidates are currently being sought to fill the position moving forward.
The position of Race Vehicle Safety Coordinator will report directly to
the Race Director, Patrick Williams.

As a result of inspections during the May 24th race program, SK Modified®
division competitors Craig Lutz and Keith Rocco were each fined $500.00
for failure to abide by rule 2.11.5 D of the Speedbowl rulebook. The rule
requires the use of wheel tethers on the front wheels of SK Modified®
cars.

Also announced today was the departure of long time SK Modified® division
tech inspector Everett Marvin.

“We take safety very seriously at the Speedbowl, but despite our best
intentions things were obviously overlooked by us as well as the racers
involved” said Speedbowl owner Terry Eames. “We know Bill Leonard will
create a system of safety verification that will prevent this from
happening again” Eames continued. “Today’s announcements are in line with
where we intend to be”.

The position of Race Vehicle Safety Coordinator will be in place beginning
with this Saturday, May 31st’s Four Cylinder Fury race program.

Barbara Richardi of Easton reacted to the decision by Thompson Speedway officials to dump the Modifieds Lites due to the fact that the field of cars had only seven turn out at the recent event held two weeks ago. “I think that they should have let them run at the end of the field of the Sk Modifieds,” she said. Barbara also revealed ,” now my son Dave (Richardi’s) alternatives include racing his Modified Lite at the Waterford Speedbowl in Connecticut or Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, NH.

Barbara also explained, “Another possibility is to sell the Modified Lite race car to someone who wants to race at Waterford or Monadnock. Also, we still have Dave’s Pro 4 Modified race car and we just sent the motor out for a rebuild.” From the sound of the situation Dave Richardi will be able to continue racing this season. The family just has to make some decisions. In the meantime brother Rob Richardi is focusing this year on the Valenti Modified Racing Series and will see action this Thursday night, May 29, at the Thompson Speedway. He’ll be among the 34 hopeful drivers who will all try to qualify for that 75-lap feature event.
