LUCAMA, NC (August 3) – On a weekend chalked full of emotion, Daniel Hemric took his first career Pro All Stars Series (PASS) South Super Late Model win in the Scorcher 150 Saturday night at Southern National Motorsports Park. Fans and racers alike were still reeling from the sudden death of longtime PASS South crew member Mike Sabiston, known to many as “The Judge,” who passed away at the track Friday in an accident while unloading the #62 New Day Motorsports Ford driven by Brandon Ward. The evening started with a remembrance of Sabiston which included a moment of silence and the local Bandolero division drivers laying a flower at a wreath in his honor. Due to the circumstances surrounding the weekend, the win by Hemric was bittersweet.
“I know everybody here has a heavy heart thinking about “The Judge” and our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family, so this one’s for you buddy,” said Hemric afterwards in victory lane.
The evening started with Preston Peltier knocking his Johnson Motorsports teammate Tyler Church off the top of the qualifying charts with a lap of 98.307 miles per hour. Peltier’s 11th career pole equals the All-Time PASS South leading total of Andy Loden and marks the first race back for the veteran after being injured eight weeks ago in an accident at home. In the top 10 qualifiers redraw, Peltier drew pill #7, while rookie Trevor Noles and Daniel Hemric had the luck of the draw to start on the front row for the Scorcher 150.
Prior to the start of the race, the pole position was left vacant during the pace laps in a tribute to Mike Sabiston and the entire PASS South field of drivers and the fans in the grandstands gave a thumbs up in an additional tribute. At the drop of the green flag to start the race, Hemric quickly jumped into lead from the outside of row 1, but his stay at the front was short lived as Ross Kenseth moved into the top spot on lap 7. The first caution of the night waved on lap 10 for a solo spin by Jerrick Johnson on the frontstretch. On the restart, top 10 runners Peltier and Blake Jones had issues when the field stacked up in front of them ending both of their nights’ early. Then, just four laps later, PASS South championship contender Kyle Grissom suffered a mechanical problem that knocked him out of the race and relegated him to a disappointing 23rd place finish.
The first half of the Scorcher 150 saw Kenseth dominate, while PASS South points leader Jay Fogleman moved into second looking to build on the eight point advantage he had on Grissom entering the race. Another championship contender having a good run was rookie Brandon Lynn, who entered the race third in points behind Fogleman and Grissom. Despite a poor qualifying effort that resulted in starting 21st, Lynn wasted little time making his way to the front. Lynn was in the top 10 by lap 60 and on lap 95 he moved around Church to break into the top 5. The third caution of the night would wave on lap 107 for rain leaving many to wonder of Kenseth could be on his way to his third straight rain-shortened PASS South win dating back to last year. But, the skies cleared and after an approximately 30 minute delay to dry the track, competitors were back out and ready to complete the final 43 laps.
At this point, Hemric had made his way around his Woodman Racing teammate Fogleman and would start outside of Kenseth for the restart. Much like the initial start, Hemric was able to jump into the lead while Kenseth fell back to fourth behind Spencer Davis and Fogleman. Despite the hiccup, Kenseth regrouped to move back into second and would restart outside of Hemric following two minor cautions for spins.
On the lap 118 restart, disaster struck for Fogleman when he would spin exiting turn two following contact with Brandon Lynn, collecting Cole Timm in the process. All three cars would suffer race ending damage. Although not able to completely capitalize on Grissom’s earlier problems, Fogleman’s 15th place finish still enabled him to extend his points lead over Grissom to 24 markers.
In the end, Hemric proved to be too strong taking the checkered flag 1.5 seconds over Kenseth, Jody Measamer, Davis and Church. Rounding out the top 10 were Alex Fleming, John Batten, Noles, Randy Gentry, and Tate Fogleman.
“We were good on the bottom, but it definitely took us two or three laps to get going,” said Hemric, who made his first ever Super Late Model start with PASS in 2010. “I can’t thank Dicky Woodman and Hamke Race Cars enough and everybody who put their hearts and souls in this deal.”
Kenseth looked to be on his way to another PASS South win, but struggled with the handling on his machine following the rain delay.
“I wasn’t too happy with the car, I thought we were too tight,” said Kenseth. “I thought me and Daniel had very similar handling race cars and after the rain I got really loose going into turn one for some reason and it messed me up.”
In the 50 lap PASS Pro Late Model feature, Trevor Noles took the lead with less than 10 laps to go when Jared Fryar slowed for an accident involving slower cars for his fifth win of the year. Following the race, Noles and the Coulter Motorsports team announced they would be giving their race winnings from this weekend to the family of Mike Sabiston. Tyler Audie led the first 27 laps of the race, but fell back to fourth and was involved in an accident with Harrison Burton that ended his night early. Following Noles at the finish were Jeff Batten, Nick Robinson, Fryar, and Walker Yates.
The PASS South Super Late Models will be in action again on Saturday night, August 17th at South Boston Speedway along with Twin 75’s for the NASCAR Late Model Stocks and CCS Legends. For more information please go to ProAllStarsSeries.com.

Despite a quick shower at the start of the night, the track was dried and racing action began last Saturday at Wiscasset Speedway as scheduled. On the agenda was Wiscasset’s group one division, including Thunder 4’s. Super Stock, Pro Stock, and New England 4-Cylinder Pro Stock. The flex race of the week was a one hundred lap Enduro feature.
First on the track was a fifteen lap Thunder-4 feature. Starting in the pole position was the No. 20 of Dan Trask. Trask was a former two time Super Street champ. Behind Trask were Ryan Chadwick in the No. 5 and Nate Tribbett in the No. 31. Off the start, Chadwick dropped back allowing Tribbett to take second, and Adam Armstrong of the No. 31X to take third.
Lap nine saw the No. 15 driven by Cody Robbins move up from his sixth place start to pass Armstrong on the inside of turn three for third. Then, in lap thirteen, Robbins passed Nate Tribbett on the inside of the back stretch for second. Racing order remained the same until the finish. Trask took first place. Robbins took second. Nate Tribbett placed third.
The Super Stock race was quick and straightforward. This twenty-five lap race began with Adam Chadbourne of the No. 1 at the pole. James Osmond of the No. 5 and Bobby Mesimer of the No. 3 were behind him. Chadbourne was fast off the starting line, leaving Osmond and Mesimer to race for second. Osmond was able to maintain his second place start. Chadbourne spent the remainder of the race looking out his rear view mirror watching the rest of the field try to catch up. Chadbourne placed first. Osmond took second. Mesimer placed third.
Prior to the thirty lap Pro Stock feature, Jeff Burgess said, “Last week wasn’t good for me. Trying some new stuff this week. This car is different than my other car was, trying to get the feel for it. Going to win today, at least, that is the goal!”
Burgess must have made the right adjustments because he started the No. 1 in the pole position. Behind him were Casey Nash in the No. 13 and Bill Penfold in the No. 0. Action began from the start when on the inside of turn two, Penfold passed Nash for second. Burgess sped ahead of the pack and had a solid ten car length lead by race midpoint.
During lap twenty-four, Penfold and Nash came together on the back stretch. Penfold spun on the track and headed for the pits for a tire change. Chris Thorne in the No. 17 moved to second. Mike Orr in the No. 3 moved to third. Penfold and Nash went to the back of the pack. Race order remained the same for the rest of the race. Burgess finished first. Thorne took second place. Orr placed third.
A three caution New England 4- Cylinder Pro Stock race was the next feature. This thirty-five lap race was action packed. Jeff Prindall of the No. 24 started in the pole position. Behind him were Tim Jeski in the No. 38, and Dave Patten in the No. 12. During lap two, the No. 8 driven by Craig Dunn, passed Dave Patten for third place. Prindall, Jeski, and Dunn raced furiously though each lap, vying for position.
The first leader change was in lap eight when Jeski passed Prindall on the inside of turn two for first place. Then, in lap ten, Prindall went inside and passed Jeski on turn four. Jeski and Prindall raced around the track for the next two laps, with each pulling ahead of the other briefly. Then in lap thirteen Jeski pulled ahead of Prindall, retaking the lead.
Lap fourteen had the first caution of the race. When racing action resumed, Dunn made his move. He passed Prindall on the inside of turn four for second. Prindall looked for an opportunity to pass Dunn. His chance came in lap seventeen, when the second caution of the race occurred. On the restart, Prindall passed Dunn on the inside of turn two for second. Not satisfied with second, Prindall eyed Jeski ahead, and on the inside of turn one of lap nineteen, he made the pass on the inside to take first. However, the third caution of the race was thrown, and put Jeski back as race leader as the lap had not been completed. Jeski was back in first. Prindall in second. Dunn in third.
Upon the restart, Jeski, Prindall, and Dunn resumed the battle for position. Dunn pulled ahead of Prindall on the backstretch for second. Then, in lap twenty-two Prindall retook second when he passed Dunn on the inside of turn two. Jeski took first place. Prindall placed second. Dunn took third. In victory lane Jeski said, “He made me start sweating at the beginning of the race. I thought he (Prindall) had it! I’d like to thank my father for putting this car back together after last week’s wreck. It’s just as fast as ever.”
Last on the agenda was the flex race for the week, a one hundred lap Enduro race. The race was open to four, six, and eight cylinder cars. The No. 86 driven by Jeff Hebert took an early lead. He was able to maintain his lead throughout the entire one hundred laps. Early race contenders were the No. 6 of Geoff Low, and the No. 8 of Ron Whitcomb. Both Low and Whitcomb were not able to maintain their early leads.
Phil Main of the No. 99 was also an early contender. Behind him was the No. 101 Driven by Nicholas Hanson. Hanson was able to pass Main, after Main spun out on the back stretch. However the two finished in the top three. Hebert took first. Hanson placed second. Turner rounded out the top three.
Wiscasset Speedway resumes racing action, August 10, 2013 with its group two lineup of divisions: Strictly Street, Mini Truck, Outlaw Mini’s, and the spotlighted feature of the week, a forty-five lap Late Model Sportsman. The flex race of the week is to be announced. Pit gates open at 2:00 PM. Grandstand gates open at 4:00 PM. Racing begins at 6:00 PM. Admission is $5.00 for adults and children aged seven and older. Kids six and under are free. Wiscasset Speedway is located on West Alna Road in Wiscasset.

Giguere wins Late Models, Nelson first time winner in Hornets
BRADFORD, VT – With over 30 different winners so far this season in the 99ROCK Weekly Racing Series stock car program at Bear Ridge Speedway the new winner trend continued on Interstate Batteries of New-Mont Night on Saturday. Evan Kingsbury, Jason Colbeth and Traci Nelson took center stage in three electrifying races to light up the night and their names to the winner’s list.
Evan Kingsbury, of Bradford VT, posted his first Bond Auto Parts DIRTcar Sportsman Modified win of the year in a narrow finish, defeating Chris Donnelly by just .173 seconds. .Tim Tucker led the first seven laps before Kingsbury, who started fifth on the grid, used the topside to annex the lead. Donnelly, who started 18th in the 20 car field patiently worked his way to the front, arriving in second with just three laps to go. Eddie Patterson and reigning track Champion Adam Pierson waged a race long battle for the next position with Patterson claiming third and Pierson fourth. Tim Hodge completed the top five.

WINCHESTER, NH- Barry Gray from Belchertown, Mass., did everything he could to make a clean pass on race leader Mike Parks, but it wasn’t until Parks spun his tires on a lap 79 restart that Gray was able to take the lead and win the Granite State Pro Stock Series JBH Memorial 100 on Saturday night at the Monadnock (N.H.) Speedway.
“There are a lot of strong cars in this division,” Gray said in victory lane. “When you win a race doing this it’s a real good deal. My hats off to my crew. I want to thank Monadnock Speedway. It’s nice that the Pro Stocks have a place to go.”
Parks and Jake Vanada led the 20 car field to the initial green, with Parks getting out front first. Gray started the race in the fourth position, and it took him until lap 30 to pass Larry Gelinas for the second spot.

Scarborough, ME – Saturday’s NASCAR Nite Pro Series 40-lap feature event winner was won by Alan Tardiff, of Lyman.
At the drop of the green, Durham’s Evan Beaulieu, paced the 19-car field to the green flag and led until lap six when Tardiff captured the lead from the rookie. Tardiff, who started 6th in the feature event was able to gain momentum going into the corner to take the lead from Beaulieu.
Tardiff, led for one lap until a caution flew on lap eight that bunched the field back together. He maintained his lead on the restart, and led until a second caution flew the following lap. Rookie Nick Cusack, of Scarborough, challenged Tardiff for lead on the second restart, but was unsuccessful in his attempt as Tardiff regained the lead going into the corner.
At the halfway mark, hard chargers Tyler King, of Livermore and Bobby Timmons, of Windham, successfully maneuvered their way inside the top five after starting 9th and 10th respectively. With ten laps remaining the final caution flew and set up a 10-lap shootout.

St-Pie, QC – Williamstown, VT’s Jimmy Hebert claimed his second career American Canadian Tour victory of his career in the Sanair 150 at Sanair Super Speedway on Saturday, August 3. Hebert started from the pole position with a +6 qualifying effort on his way to his heat win. He faded back during the early stages of the event before working his way back to the point just before the halfway mark. He returned to the lead for good on lap 70 and built a large lead before the final rain shower of the day came and cut the race short on lap 145.
Série ACT competitor Alex Labbe and Wayne Helliwell, Jr. came from 12th and 24th respectively to complete the podium. Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. worked his way from 13th to take 4th. Eight-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar and Glen Luce battled for the lead for the majority of the first half of the event. Hoar began to fade before the lap 77 mandatory caution for fuel and tires. He then worked his way back up to finish fifth.
Jonathan Bouvrette, Ben Lynch, Donald Theetge, Jean-François Déry and rookie Bobby Therrien rounded out the top ten.

Atkins, Bergeron split Late Model mains; Hanson, Bushey make history
WEST HAVEN, VT – Veteran stock car driver Todd Stone held off young up-and-comer Jessey Mueller to win Devil’s Bowl Speedway’s most important open-wheel Modified event on Friday, August 2, taking the second annual Carrara Masonry & Concrete C.J. Richards Memorial 67. The win highlighted a night full of close finishes, with Brandon Atkins, Chris Bergeron, Lacey Hanson, and Karen Bushey also taking victories at the event honoring the track’s late founder.
The outcome of the race – which was the second round of the five-race Northern Modified Challenge Series – was in question throughout the entire 67-lap distance until Stone crossed the finish line as the winner. Veteran Leon Gonyo of Chazy, NY started on the front row by virtue of a random draw, and led the opening seven laps. Visiting short track standout “Liquid” Loud Cicconi of Aston, PA, driving Stone’s team car, took command on lap 8 and diced with Gonyo for the next 14 laps before Middlebury, VT racer Stone entered the picture.
Stone took the lead from Cicconi at lap 31 and led his teammate in an entertaining duel, but Cicconi’s engine failed, forcing him out of the race at lap 39 while running second. The resulting restart allowed 18 year-old Mueller, of Olmstedville, NY, to draw even with Stone, and the pair raced in lockstep for the final 27 laps. Both were forced to make daring maneuvers through lapped traffic with five laps to go, nearly causing them to crash, but Stone held on to beat Mueller by a car length to win. The victory was his fourth-straight and seventh of the season in the Bond Auto Parts Modified division at Devil’s Bowl.

Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour: Reid Lanpher
Beech Ridge Motor Speedway Race Report
SCARBOROUGH, Maine – Reid Lanpher of Manchester, Maine, finished second in the Amsoil NELCAR Legends Tour 25-lap VIP Thursday Thunder feature event at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, on Thursday, August 1. The finish was the fourth consecutive podium finish for the 15-year-old Lanpher, who won at Wiscasset Raceway on July 13 and then finished second twice in a span of three days at both Beech Ridge and Oxford Plains Speedway. Lanpher started 19th in the 20-car field and deftly worked his way through traffic to the runner-up spot. With one lap remaining, Lanpher had pulled to the rear bumper of the race leader when the field was given the combined yellow/checkered flags for a blown engine on another competitor’s car.

REID, WERE YOU HOPING THE RACE WOULD BE RESTARTED WITH ONE LAP REMAINING?
I could have won it, maybe. It’s just one of those things that could have gone either way. It could have played against me or it could have played for me. I would have liked to see a caution, but that’s racing. We’ll take that. We started 19th and got all the way to second in 25 laps. I’m pretty pumped about that.
Big thanks to everybody, really, that makes this possible. I just feel so fortunate to be a 15-year-old kid out here doing what I do. Big, big thanks to everybody.
DID YOU THINK THE CAR WAS GOING TO BE THAT GOOD AFTER FINAL PRACTICE?
We made some gains from the first practice, and we were selective in our adjustments. I think that worked out good. I was fairly confident going into the feature after the first practice session. Did I think we’d be good enough to get all the way to second? Maybe I’d have questioned that a little bit, but I’ll take it.
It is what it is. It’s so frustrating to get second eight times this year, but I can’t complain. There were 18 other cars out here that would have liked to have finished where we did.
HOW MUCH DID THE EARLY CAUTION FLAGS HELP YOU WITH TRACK POSITION?
Not being involved in the wrecks was big. I was going to take all the cautions I could get, to be honest, without being involved in any of them. I didn’t care if I had to restart on the outside lane or on the inside behind slow cars – I was going to take any cautions we could get and try and use them to my advantage.

White Mountain Motorsports Park Race Preview
THE STORY
WINDHAM, Maine – Bradley Babb of Windham, Maine, joins the PASS North Series for the PASS 150 at White Mountain Motorsports Park in North Woodstock, N.H., on Sunday, August 4. Babb finished third – his best career PASS North Series finish – at White Mountain in 2011, the last time he competed on the scenic, high-banked quarter-mile. Babb sits 19 in the current PASS North standings, despite making only four starts, with two qualifying race wins and one Top-10 finish. The 2012 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Maine state champion is hoping to rebound at White Mountain after a blown engine at Oxford Plains Speedway during qualifying forced him out of the TD Bank Oxford 250 last month.
