Crazy Horse Racing Powers Patria To Top Of Ladies Division
It took exactly two turns behind the wheel of a race car for Dottie Patria to become addicted to the sport of stock car racing.
Patria, of Turner, has turned that addiction into an assault on the Oxford Plains Speedway record books over the past seven years. With her 20-lap Ladies feature win at the track on Opening Day two weeks ago, Patria sits just two victories away from second on the all-time win list in the division.
“After the first race, I was like, ‘Eh. It’s OK,’” Patria recalled this week. “I was glad I tried it, but it if I’d never raced again I would have been OK with that. But I was committed to running two races, and after the second race, I was hooked. It was like, ‘I LOVE THIS.’” (more…)

The eighth annual Prelude To The Dream on Wednesday, June 6 at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, will feature two races within the all-star dirt Late Model race that benefits Feed The Children
A band of brothers will wheel 2,300-pound dirt Late Model stock cars capable of putting out more than 800 horsepower around the half-mile Eldora oval. NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Kurt and Kyle Busch will vie for the win and bragging rights among themselves, as will Austin and Ty Dillon, who compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, respectively. Phil Richardson of Hermon picked up his first feature win of the season in the Dysart’s Late Models at Speedway 95 Saturday night after passing pole sitter Andy Saunders of Ellsworth on lap 5 of the 35 lap event. Deane Smart of Bradley passed Saunders on the 22nd lap when Saunders was held up momentarily while overlapping slower traffic to take the second spot with Saunders finishing in third. Winterport’s Ryan Deane finished in fourth with Hermon’s Dale Swoboda coming across the stripe in fifth.
In Maine State Lottery Sportsman action, Shane Tatro of Holden returned to the winner’s circle after missing two weeks while waiting for a new motor to be built. Tatro’s win wasn’t easy as he had to fight off a determined Steve Moulton of Holden who finished a close second. D.J. Moody of Prospect finished third, followed by Derek Mingo of Lamoine in fourth and fifth place finisher Mike Overlock of Franklin. (more…)
Scott, Cyr, others to race Devil’s Bowl Speedway Friday in preparation for June 8 event
An all-star pack of stock car drivers will come to Devil’s Bowl Speedway one week early this Friday in preparation for the Vermont State Late Model Championship Series 100 on June 8. Drivers will use the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series J&S Steel Late Model feature at the Carrara Masonry & Concrete/Mobil 1 event on Friday, June 1 to gather notes for the second round of the Vermont State Championship the following week.
The Vermont State Late Model Championship Series opened last Sunday at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre with the 50th annual Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic 100. Nick Sweet took the win after a long mid-race battle with Lieutenant Governor Phil Scott of Berlin, VT. (more…)
DOVER, Del. — The Hendrick Motorsports juggernaut is back — with a vengeance.
Driving away from Kevin Harvick and Matt Kenseth after a restart with 31 laps left in Sunday’s FedEx 400 at Dover International Speedway, Jimmie Johnson made short work of his NASCAR Sprint Cup rivals.
Johnson, who led 289 of the 400 laps, picked up his second victory of the season (in addition to a win in the May 19 NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race) and his second victory in the last three points races. Hendrick drivers have now won four straight races, including the All-Star event. (more…)
Melberg, Ladyga, Sprague, Sanchez and Lougee pick up season opener wins for Fast Friday!
Jesse Melberg, last season’s Rookie of the Year, started 2012 off with a dominating performance. Melberg led all twenty five laps, cruising to a convincing win after holding off a late challenge from John Robidoux and Bill Chouinard.
In the Nick’s Pit Stop Legends, Nick Ladyga held firm in the top spot after passing pole sitter Tom Gray on the second lap, leading every single lap from thereon in to notch another win at Seekonk Speedway. His first since graduating from the SYRA division 3 years ago. (more…)
Charging forward from the seventh position after a restart on Lap 158 of 200, Logano overtook pole-sitter Ryan Truex for the lead on Lap 195 to win the 5-Hour Energy 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race, leading a 1-2-3 finish for Joe Gibbs Racing.
In winning his fourth Nationwide race in 10 starts this season and the 13th of his career, Logano finished 1.526 seconds ahead of Truex, who was 11 days removed from an emergency appendectomy.
When Logano came to the pits on Lap 152 after spinning Tim Bainey Jr. to cause the sixth and final caution on Lap 151 (an incident Logano attributed to a rookie not giving the leader enough room), Truex inherited the lead and appeared headed for a fairy tale finish until Logano caught him with five laps left. LaJoie, from Concord, N.C., powered the No. 07 Thermal Control Products/Sims Metal Ford to the lead on the event’s first lap, but pole-sitter Kyle Larson wrestled it away the next circuit and LaJoie ran second through the first quarter of the race. The 20-year-old regained the lead on Lap 37 and held on through the balance of the event that included eight more restarts for his first trip to Victory Lane.
“To put your name on the same page as Richard Petty or Tim Flock is really incredible,” LaJoie said of joining the legendary Bowman Gray winners list. “I have a long, long, long way to go to catch up to the prestige of those guys. I’m just happy to get in Victory Lane once to break that barrier.” (more…)
Brian Hoar beats 24-car Late Model field; Keith and Germain take wins
Ron Proctor and Brian Hoar each made a big statement on Carrara Masonry & Concrete Night presented by Mobil 1 at Devil’s Bowl Speedway on Friday night. Proctor came from 11th starting position to grab the Bond Auto Parts Modified victory for the second week in a row, while Hoar beat the largest weekly field of J&S Steel Late Models in the track’s history.
Proctor, of Charlton, NY, scored a dominant win in the 35-lap Modified feature. The defending track champion took the lead at lap 20 and cruised out front to the win. The race ended in bizarre fashion, as Proctor had taken the white flag on the final lap just before a crash involving Paul Braymer drew the yellow flag. Because Proctor had taken the while flag as the leader under race conditions, the race was deemed official. Hunter Bates of Middlebury, VT held off a hard-charging Vince Quenneville, Jr., of Brandon, VT for the runner-up position. Jessey Mueller of Olmstedville, NY recovered from a mid-race spin to finish fourth, and Leon Gonyo of Chazy, NY was fifth. (more…)
