LOUDON, N.H. (July 4, 2011) -As the country celebrates Independence Day, New Hampshire Motor Speedway officials announced today that the speedway will host a unique service dedicating a grandstand seat to the thousands of Americans who are or were a prisoner of war and for those who are missing in action during the LENOX Industrial Tools 301 pre-race ceremonies on Sunday, July 17.
The POW/MIA empty chair and plaque will be located in “The Magic Mile” main grandstand area, a special reminder of those who serve and protect America. The POW/MIA chair will be part of several special pre-race activities and dedications.
“We are very pleased to honor those who serve and protect our country each day,” said Jerry Gappens, executive vice president and general manager of the speedway. “We hope that fans take the time to come out and see the POW/MIA chair and recognize the sacrifices the American troops make.”
The idea for the chair was made possible through numerous veteran groups throughout the region.
“This is such an honor,” said Blue Kelloway a Vietnam veteran. “This chair is a true representation for those who gave everything for us. “They will now be able to be represented by that chair and to remind us of their sacrifice.”
The LENOX Industrial Tools weekend features five different races from five different series including; the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series LENOX Industrial Tools 301, the NASCAR Nationwide Series New England 200, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East New England 125, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour F.W. Webb 100 and the NELCAR Legends Tour.

Canaan NH (7/3) Ben Rowe reclaimed the lead from Richie Dearborn on lap 116 of Saturday night’s Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Firecracker 150 at Canaan Fair Speedway and raced on for his first PASS North win of the season. Alex Labbé Outruns Three Champions For First Série ACT Castrol Win
Montmagny, QC – Sophomore driver Alex Labbé of St-Albert, QC earned his first career Série ACT Castrol win in a 250 lap event at Autodrome Montmagny in Montmagny, QC on Saturday, July 2. Labbé started ninth in the 22 car field and outran three Série ACT Castrol Champions (Donald Theetge, Karl Allard and Patrick Laperle) for the win. The 2010 Rookie of the Year took the lead with 16 laps to go after contact between leader Karl Allard and a lapped car. (more…)
SPECIAL EVENTS HIGHLIGHT UPCOMING SPEEDWAY 95 SCHEDULE
A pair of special Thursday night events highlight the upcoming schedule at Speedway 95 in Hermon as the racing season hits it’s mid point in central Maine.
On Thursday, July 14, at 7:00 p.m. Speedway 95 presents the “Wreaths Across America” 50 lap Ikey Dorr Memorial event for Strictly Street, Outlaw and Wildcat type cars, sponsored by Worster Wreath of Milbridge with help from Banners and Signs of Hermon. The event, promoted by Chuck Hall of Milbridge, is in it’s second year, and is done as a tribute to his friend Ikey Dorr, a street stock racer at Speedway 95 who suffered a fatal heart attack while competing at the speedway in July of 2009. Hall has posted $1000.00 top prize for the event, with $750.00 for second and $500.00 for third. The purse also includes $20.00 lap money for every lap led, so if anyone leads all 50 laps and wins, they could go home with $2000.00 in their pocket. Hall says he has had a lot of interest in the event and expects over 40 cars to register. All other regular Saturday night divisions will also be in action that night. (more…)

CANAAN, N.H. – Lonnie Sommerville of Saint John, New Brunswick, rallied for a hard-fought fifth-place finish in the PASS North Series Firecracker 150 at Canaan Fair Speedway in Canaan, N.H., on Saturday, July 2. Sommerville took the lead briefly in the event’s early going after starting fourth, but a broken control arm before the halfway mark significantly hindered the handling on the No. 48 A.E. McKay Builders/Community Pharmacies Chevrolet. Sommerville, who posted his third Top-5 in five races this season in the Mulkern Racing entry, led a total of nine laps on the night. He never dropped lower than sixth in the running order and used a couple of late restarts to crack the Top-5 in his first-ever visit to Canaan. (more…)

South Plattsburgh, NY – Patrick Dupree chased down Vince Quenneville and Don Scarborough and made the winning pass on the backstretch on the next to last lap in the DIRTcar Modified 30-lap main event at Airborne Speedway.
Dupree’s third win of the season was witnessed by one of the largest crowds in Airborne’s 58-year history. More than 4,600 fans attended. (more…)
Krawiec Wins Third Straight USAC DMA Feature at Bear Ridge Speedway

BRADFORD, VT – “Flatfoot” Joe Krawiec of Bristol, CT came from a ninth starting spot to win his third consecutive USAC Dirt Midget Association feature at Bear Ridge Speedway Saturday night. Going where angels fear to tread by running high and outside whenever traffic allowed, Krawiec dove to the inside on a mid-race restart to grab the lead and finish 1.8 seconds ahead of Scott Holcomb of Granby, CT. Veteran Pro Stock, Supermodified and NEMA Midget racer Jeff Horn of Hudson, MA was third, Hall of Famer Ray Miller was fourth and Dana Shaw, running his first full season in a Midget, continued to impress by finishing fifth.
