Hudson Race Report for July 25th

Hudson NH –Jerry Lepage scored his first career win in the Rookie Stocks on Sunday evening July 25th at Hudson International Speedway. Lepage started on the pole and led every lap of the race. Past the halfway point of the race Keith “Slika” Ennis was running second and looked like he going to be able to mount a challenge to Lepage but tangled with Andy Nichols on a restart and both cars spun out of contention for the day. Lepage held on from there to become the eighth different winner in twelve Rookie Stocks mains this year. Second through tenth were Billy Clement Jr., Dan Murphy Jr., Dean Wendell, Bill Helliwell, Ennis, Corrie Merritt, Larry Fortin, John Morin Jr. and Nichols. Murphy and Clement were the heat winners.

Winchester, NH: Fans once again got their money’s worth when the high-bank racers would put on a show to remember. WESTFIELD, MA – On a sultry, steamy night with a triple digit heat index, 60 year old Jim DeCambra ended a two year drought with a wire-to-wire win in the 600cc Mini Sprints.
“I guess I outlasted the kids,” DeCambra said. “Our division is so fast and the cars are so nearly equal, that almost anybody could win on any given night. This week, I was in the right spot at the right time and it makes up for a race I should have won a couple of weeks ago.” (more…)

Cayea smokes Airborne Mods for 1st career win

South Plattsburgh – Chris Cayea of Mooers pulled away from the field with the Begor’s Supply No. 18 in the closing laps of the 30-lap Modified main event to claim his first career win at Airborne Speedway.

Cayea’s win came soon after Jamy Begor had held off Bucko Branham to score his first win of the season in the J&S Steel Sportsman feature.

Cayea started on the outside of early leader Andy Heywood after a red flag was thrown on lap when Todd Ormsby spun out and flames appeared underneath his car. Heywood soon began losing the handle and Cayea snatched the lead on lap 18 while Craig Reyell, Bryant Trim and Jason Durgan battled hard for second. That trio managed to stop point leader Patrick Dupree’s run to the front from 14th. Dupree got a wheel under Durgan for fourth, but Durgan regained the spot and eventually wound up third at Trim’s bumper.
