ACT International 500 Pit Notes

image003Plattsburgh, NY – The American Canadian Tour Late Models ascended on Airborne Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY for a day of practice on Saturday, July 20. A total of 46 Late Model teams took advantage of the practice session in anticipation of the Inaugural ACT International 500 scheduled for Sunday, July 21.

Quebec’s Jonathan Bouvrette led a strong contingent of Série ACT competitors and the rest of the field with the fastest time of the day with a 17.054 in the third and final practice session. Fellow Quebecer’s Alex Labbe, Patrick Laperle, Jean-François Déry and David Michaud spent time at the top of the speed charts.

Eight-time ACT Champion Brian Hoar paced the early practice session followed by two-time Thunder Road Champion Nick Sweet. 2013 ACT winner Jimmy Hebert was also quick along with current ACT point leader Wayne Helliwell, Jr. Fellow ACT regulars Chip Grenier, Rowland Robinson, Jr., Bobby Therrien and Ben Lynch posted solid times.

OXFORD, Maine – Dan McKeage of Gorham, Maine, finished eighth in the rain-shortened PASS Sportsman Series 75 at Oxford Plains Speedway in Oxford, Maine, on Friday, July 19. Severe weather and a heavy downpour passing through the area brought out the first and only caution flag of the night on Lap 57, and the race was never restarted. McKeage qualified fourth in the Naughty 40 Racing No. 40 Top Gun Construction/J.P. & Family Roofing Chevrolet, but the same strong car he had throughout the day never materialized once feature racing began. McKeage will round out his weekend with a 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Pro Series race at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, on Saturday, July 20.

SCARBOROUGH, Maine – John Peters of Westbrook, Maine, led every lap to win the 25-lap NELCAR Legends Tour feature as part of VIP Thursday Thunder at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, Maine, on Thursday, July 18.
The victory was the third of the year at Beech Ridge for Peters.

“I looked in my mirror with 10 laps to go, and I saw a gray car coming – and I knew who it was,” Peters said. “I knew (the No. 59) was fast, so I got back up on the wheel. A couple more laps, and we might have had a good race for it.
“It was exciting from the cockpit, that’s for sure.”

The “Hurricane” Jamie Fisher Ends Thunder Road Drought

Barre, VT – Jamie “The Hurricane” Fisher of Shelburne, driving the S. D. Ireland No. 18, led the final 18 laps of the Safelite Auto Glass Late Model 50 to become the 6th different winner in the last six races Thursday at Thunder Road. It was the first Late Model victory at the “Nation’s Site of Excitement” since 2009 for the former track champion as well as the 14th of his career.

Fisher overtook rookie Jason Corliss for the lead after gaining three spots in the previous eight laps. Joey Laquerre got underneath Corliss for 2nd when Corliss bobbled in turn four with seven circuits left, but couldn’t close in on Fisher. Corliss wound up 3rd, three car-lengths ahead of Derrick O’Donnell whose 4th-place effort unofficially moved him into lead in the championship point standings. Brooks Clark completed the top-five.

PRO STOCK TOUR TAKES ON NASCAR CHAMP KESELOWSKI AT IWK 250 THIS SATURDAY AT RIVERSIDE

pro stock tour(Halifax, NS, July 17, 2013) The Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour returns to Riverside International Speedway this Saturday, July 20th for the prestigious IWK 250 presented by Steve Lewis Auto Body. This marquee event will feature current NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Brad Keselowski. Thirty-four drivers from five Canadian provinces and two states in the U.S. have pre-registered for the event with a purse of more than $93,000. The IWK 250 will mark round seven of 12 in the chase for the Parts for Trucks Pro Stock Tour Championship. Grandstand gates and box office for the IWK 250 open at 12:00 PM; Atlantic Tiltload Time Trials will get underway at 3:30 PM followed by an on-track autograph session and concert. Pre-race festivities start at 7:00 PM.

NASCAR champ Keselowski will work a rare off-weekend from his No. 2 Miller Lite Ford ride in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series to make an even more rare start at the IWK 250. Keselowski will pilot the No. 13K Cat Car for Kids this Saturday. The Cat Car for Kids program, presented by Atlantic Cat, was initiated in 2008. Prior to race day the car and Keselowski will visit the IWK Health Centre where patients and their families can sign the car as co-sponsors; the annual visit has become a ‘signature’ event on the hospital calendar. The IWK 250 has raised awareness and more than $130,000 for the IWK Health Centre since 2007.

Valenti Modified Racing Series Returns To Oxford 250 Weekend

VMRSCanaan, NH. – The hot summer schedule and 10th anniversary season continues this weekend, Saturday, July 20, when the Valenti Modified Racing Series returns to Oxford, Maine, for the 40th annual TD Bank 250 weekend. The series will be making its sixth appearance at Oxford in the last seven years.

In previous events, five different drivers have visited victory lane at the famed oval. Two are expected Saturday.

One is popular local favorite, David Pinkham of Buxton, expected to compete in the Tom Greeley owned # 22. Pinkham is a three-time series winner and the 2008 winner of the Oxford race.

Joe Doucette, of Framingham, MA, has run a limited schedule this season but will return to the site of his first and only series win. Doucette electrified the crowd in 2011 when on lap 97; he passed for the lead to a thunderous roar from the grandstands
