Large Field Expected For Modified Racing Series Stafford Springs Debut

Stafford Spring CT — Last December Stafford Springs Motor Speedway CEO, Mark Arute declared, “We have listened to our fans and competitors. Our supporters have been very vocal. They have told us we need to consider bringing in the Modified Racing Series. We reconsidered some past stances on the series. We are delighted to be bringing the Modified Racing Series to Stafford.”

The much anticipated debut appearance by the New England based series that competes at speedways throughout the six-state region and New York, takes place this Friday night, September 10, with the running of the Shark Cycle 100 at the famed Connecticut Speedway, and interest in the event has upwards of 40 race teams indicating they plan to compete.

Brent Dragon of Milton, Vt., finished 23rd in the ACT Late Model Tour Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200 at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt., on Sunday, September 5. Dragon was running inside the Top-5 just past the halfway mark of the event when he was caught in the wake of an accident involving lapped traffic. He pitted to make repairs, returned to the race but retired a few laps later due to the damage his No. 55 Chevrolet incurred.

Joey Polewarczyk Jr. of Hudson, N.H., finished eighth in the ACT Late Model Tour Bond Auto Labor Day Classic 200 at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt., on Sunday, September 5. Polewarczyk dominated the first two-thirds of the event — starting on the outside pole and leading on a remarkable seven different occasions totaling more than 150 laps before aging tires over the closing stages dropped his No. 97 Ford in the running order. He was the only driver to finish in the Top-10 that did not opt to put for fresh tires at some point in the event. It was Polewarczyk’s seventh Top-10 finish in 10 starts this season.

Patrick Laperle Claims Bond Auto Labor Day Victory

Barre, VT – St-Denis, Quebec’s Patrick Laperle held off a late charging Phil Scott to claim the ACT Late Model Tour win in the 32nd running of the Bond Auto Labor Day Classic at Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, VT on Sunday, September 5. Laperle led the final 14 laps of the 200 lap event after getting around Dave Pembroke.

Joey Polewarczyk, Jr. and current ACT Late Model Tour point leader Brian Hoar battled for the first 160 laps of the event. They swapped the lead eight times amongst themselves before Pembroke joined the mix with fresher tires on lap 160. Pembroke would hold the lead until lap 187 when Laperle took over also on fresher tires.

Phil Scott ran in the top three for the majority of the event until pitting for tires on a lap 167 caution. He proceed to slice through the field followed closely by Hoar and Randy Potter who also pitted on lap 167 with the same strategy.

WESTFIELD, MA – For the second time this season, Mark Taylor flipped and won on the same night at Whip City Speedway. Taylor, who competes in both the 750cc and the 1200cc Mini Sprints got upside down during the 750cc feature, when he was involved in a multicar crash while running fourth. He came back later in the evening, to score a decisive victory in the 1200cc class. Taylor’s only previous win this season came on a night when he won in his 750cc and flipped his 1200cc.

Waterford, CT—Defending series champion, Jon McKennedy of East Chelmsford, MA., scored his second win of the season Saturday night, September 4, at the Waterford CT. Speedbowl, winning the 100-lap Modified Racing Series feature event sponsored by BobValentiAutomall.com.

McKennedy’s ninth with the New England based racing series came behind the wheel of a brand new RaceWorks chassis race car completed late Friday night.

“I need to give a special thanks to Eddie Flemke Jr and Reggie Ruggerio. They worked pretty hard to get this chassis done for me, I want to thank my crew, it’s been a long week, 15-16 hours in the garage everyday. We finished it up last night but it all paid off. To come here and win at a track we struggled at, it feels good. Hats off to the crew. The car was good, I drove it like I stole it,” said the 2009 champion.

Derek Ramstrom of West Boylston, Mass., finished seventh in the PASS South Series Labor Day Classic 200 at North Wilkesboro Speedway in North Wilkesboro, N.C. After starting 18th, Ramstrom made several changes to his race car before rallying to finish inside the Top-10 in the first race held at the historic speedway since 1996. He was one of only eight cars to finish on the lead lap. In the 25-car starting field, Ramstrom advanced the most positions from his starting spot of any driver in the field and was the highest finishing PASS North Series driver in the event.

Burgess stops Moulton’s streak at Unity Raceway

Unity, Maine — Jeff Burgess snapped Frank Moulton’s five-race win streak in the 35-lap Late Model main event Saturday night at Unity Raceway.

Burgess, of Fairfield, briefly lost the lead on a couple of occasions after starting from the pole, but controlled most of the Late Model 35-lapper. It was a turnabout of sort for Burgess, who had a two-race win streak broken by the first of Moulton’s five recent victories.
